a kick in the pants fun read for lawyers and non-lawyers!
Sometimes people say the darndest things. . .and it happens to oftentimes be in court. A laugh a minute, Disorder in the Court provides hours of reading enjoyment. If it is not dumb witnesses then it's pompous lawyers or snide judges that are making the comments that make people understand why law and lawyers are one of the most joked about fields of work and professions!

A hilarious look at the trippings of English usage.
The biggest trouble I have is trying to read this book in public. I laugh out loud and have tears in my eyes. I'm sure on lookers worry that someone should be calling the white coats out for me. The Lederer books are all a gem for anyone, but the more well read you are, the more you appreciate this digest of mis-statements and bloopers.

If you find Elements of Style a bit dry, try the Write Way
Word-master Richard Lederer combines his jolly sense of humor, common sense and experience as a top English instructor in a very enjoyable book about grammar, punctuation, spelling and style.

While Strunk and White's classic is a must on the shelf, reading the Write Way is a lot more fun, and a lot easier to remember.

The Hardest Crosswords You'll Ever See
I bought this book because I'm a huge fan of Mr. Lederer's work.

Little did I know it would destroy me!

The rules are a bit unclear in parts, however. While most of the puzzles are made of rhymes and puns, not every word in the puzzle falls into these categories. Sometimes you may be searching for the rhyme of your solution for an hour, then realize no rhyme is required.

It may not be for me, as I don't spend too much time with crosswords. However, if you consider yourself rather agile with your vocabulary, or a master of puns, this book will be a true test of your skill.

Awesome
Bought this for my mom, who is an avid, competitive crossworder.
She fell in love with this and had a hard time forcing herself
to put it down.

Theme puzzles abound
This crossword puzzle book provides a satisfying collection of crosswords by a 'word wizard' whose books on language both entertain and educate, and a puzzle constructor. Word Play Crosswords Volume 1 is recommended for advanced crossword puzzle solvers who want a greater challenge than most. Theme puzzles abound.

Your heart and life will be touched like never before...
The scores of short stories contained within this emotion-impacting book span a wide range of life-affecting topics that include love (15 stories), giving (11), parents and parenting (15), faith (12), levity (11), overcoming obstacles (11), perspective (11), and death and dying (15). The carefully selected stories (from thousands submitted) provide insight into the person God has called us to be, the actions God expects us to take, and the faith and attitude God expects us to adopt and profess. Scattered between the selections are both comics and thought-provoking quotations relevant to the section that they appear in.

Contributions for this outstanding 375+ page work were supplied by individuals such as the late Norman Vincent Peale, Corrie ten Boom, Dick Van Patten, Charles W. Colsen, Gary Smalley, Joan Wester Anderson, and Dick Van Dyke.

All stories are presented in a very readable level in which the reader can relate to the themes discussed and are short enough that single stories can be read in a session and then pondered. Your life will be more spiritually fulfilling and be more positive upon completion of reading this book if you take these stories to heart.

Do yourself a favor... A MUST read!

Chicken Soup proves its ability to enrich one's life.
Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul paints a beautiful picture of true Christian love. The book does exactly as the title implies: warms the heart and rekindles the soul. The stories are very touching and moving, and they are all the more remarkable because they are true. Chicken Soup leaves the reader feeling very loving towards others and wanting to follow many actions of the people in the book. Chicken Soup's many themes include love, friendship, and devotion. Most of the stories in the book are based on one of these ideas. Often the stories show how love and friendship impacted or changed the author's life. People come to value these things much more when they have really been involved with the feelings of love and friendship. Chicken Soup makes a point to impress these values on the reader. The stories in Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul are all drawn from personal experience or the experience of a friend. This makes them seem quite real to the reader and leaves a very lasting impression. Many of the stories in the book question the power of Christ in one's life. Every time, His power holds true. Other times, the stories of devotion show just how rewarding love can be. These two things really give the reader something to think about. Also, the reader doesn't take so many things for granted. The Chicken Soup stories have all been very well written. They are worded in a way so as to touch the reader with everything they say. The book argues and defends its title very well and answers all questions posed in any of the stories. Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul proves to be very accessible to just about any reader of reasonable age, although the book probably has a more lasting impression on Christians. But, being a Christian isn't necessary to understand and enjoy the book. The point of view varies throughout the book, which makes it a little more interesting to read. The strengths of the Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul include the wonderful Christian-like themes it addresses throughout the book. Also, the book's ability to leave a lasting impression and make the reader truly grateful is definitely very important. As for weaknesses, none were noticeable. This book really contributes to the reader's understanding of life in general and how a little love and caring can go a long way. Reading Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul would definitely be a positive influence on just about anyone. The book proves its capability to cheer someone up when the soul feels blue. This is a wonderful book that plenty of people would enjoy, should they take the time to understand the feelings of the authors. Chicken Soup can certainly change the way one looks at themselves and others and make the quality of life much richer.

Very inspirational
I have not yet completed this book, but I am in the process of finishing it now. So far it is very motivational. The chapter on Faith has got some real meaningful messeges. I recommend that anyone who needs some words of wisdom should open this book. It is definately worth the time and worth the money. I am only 20 years old and have read a lot of books, but this one is literally too hard to put down. When I put it down after reading a story I feel like being the best of God's people. God's work is really involved in these stories, and in putting them together so that we can enjoy them and learn about some wonderful workings of God.

Funniest thing in print!
This book makes regular appearences at our house every holiday. Sooner or later someone pulls it off the shelf and starts reading choice bits aloud, and shortly the whole room is rolling on the floor. It's great fun to read by yourself, but for best effect try reading aloud to someone. Our rule is that when someone can't complete a quote because they're laughing too hard, they pass the book to the next reader, and it's rare for one person to keep the book more than about five minutes. Especially recommended for pun lovers.

Rolling in laughter down the airport terminal
Great book! Truely one of the funniest books I have ever read -- and one of the few I purchase on a regular basis (I loose all my copies by lending them out to my friends). In particular, I remember reading this book in the Atlanta airport waiting for my next flight and within minutes was on the terminal floor in a siezure of laughter -- several people even stopped me to get the name of the book so they could get a copy too.

Anguished 12 year old
We bought this book for our 12 year old son. After reading the first few pages together he went on to finish the book in a couple of days and then re-read it another time or two( laughing all the way). Ben now quotes from the book at regular appropriate (and inappropriate) times and plans to read the rest of this series just as fast as we can order the books.

One of the few sure-fire laughs in print.
"The World According to Student Bloopers," a section of Lederer's book, has been widely pirated on the Internet and is thus familiar to many, even though they may not know its original source. There's a reason why this text has echoed around the world: One cannot read it without laughing. Other sections of the book, all of which deal with the many misuses, distortions and double-entendres encountered in everyday English usage, aren't quite so laugh-packed, but are still well worth the trip.

Funny, funny, funny!
This is one of the funniest books! Make sure you're sitting down, or better yet, lying down whe you read this book. Grammar has never been so funny. Then again, I'm not sure if I ought to laugh or cry at how the English language is murdered :-) The drawings in the book are also hilarious.
This book is a most enjoyable way to learn about how not to make mistakes in your writing. It has lots of great lines you can pull out to amuse people with, ( eg. Headline - Milk Drinkers Are Tuning to Powder). It would also be great reading during the summer, in preparation for English classes. Absolutely loved it.

Not QUITE as funny as its predecessors.
Still, this book is a marvellously funny romp through a collection of snippets of tortured English. Delightful for those capable of seeing the humor in a sign that reads:

No
DOGS
EATING
BICYCLES

My only objection to this book was that I've seen too many of these entries before; between those that are in the chapter-ending "hall of fame" sections, that have appeared in previous books by this author, and those that I have seen in other similar books (Jay Leno's "Headlines" books, for instance) there were just too many that were too familiar to be entirely bizarre. Still, there was plenty of new material, and it was ALL funny, even the recycled parts.

A worthy addition to a hilarious series!
As a devoted reader of Richard Lederer's previous "Anguished English" books, I was anxious to see if this book measured up to the previous titles. I was thrilled to find that it did that and more! There is no doubt that "The Bride of Anguished English" is a fantastic book that will keep me laughing for hours on end. Most all of the material is new, but it pays homage to classic English errors in a small "Hall of Fame" section at the end of each chapter. If you enjoy studying and/or laughing at the misuse of English, this is a book for you.

Fun for all ages
In this highly entertaining book, punmaster Richard Lederer reveals the tricks of the punster's trade while challenging readers to create original wordplay of their own. In sixteen chapters, with titles such as "Calling on the Homophone," "Puns That Babylon," and "Tairy Fales," the author explains how to use homophones, homographs, and spoonerisms for comical effect while exploring knock-knock jokes, Tom Swifties, and other types of jokes and riddles based on the deft manipulation of sound and meaning. The author presents a clear and simple explanation of each form, provides numerous examples, and then invites readers to create original jokes, rhymes, and puzzles of their own. Language-lovers of all ages will appreciate the wealth of wit and humor presented on these pages.

Great for my 3rd Grader
My third-grade daughter couldn't put this book down! Absolutely loved the "Pun Fun" section and the "'Let's play a Game' said Tom Swiftly" section. The booked is marked up and dog-eared.

Quite a disappointment, really
As a non-native English speaker (but a reasonably accomplished journalist and translator) I really looked forward to this book. After all, the excerpts I found online and in the readers' comments were wonderful... Unfortunately, I discovered that the reality of Crazy English is that of a quite "normal" textbook on rethorics. The examples are usually funny, but if you're experienced enough with English you don't really need anyone to explain you again what omophonics and "false friends" are. Oh, and the author really tends to be quite logorrhoic in his drive to show us how many words he does know - sometimes failing miserably with his explanations of Latin origin of words. Interesting, mildly fun but quite a disappointment, really.

Crazy English
Recently I read the book Crazy English by Richard Lederer for a school project. I thought it was a very interesting book and it really did explain why our English language is so crazy. My favorite part of the book was the Tense Times with Verbs secetion. There were very good poems written in this chapter to help explain and give examples of how our language doesn't make sense sometimes. Another good portion of the book is The Sounds of English, it talks about the many different letters that have different sounds and the words that have mute letters, or silent letters. It has a very indepth perspective of many different sounds and why they are spelled and said the way they are. Overall, I thought this was a very educational book and interesting to read.

If you're interested in language, this is a great book.
It's not a text book style book on the dusty history of the English language. Mr. Lederer writes an easy to read (pardon the expression) light hearted look at some of the eccentricities of the English language. Overall, a very enteratining read.
