British Policy in Palestine, 1917-1922

Saint Leo University's Jack McTague
While Jack McTague does work for one of the most unastounding universities in the country, his own abilities as both a teacher and a writer ought not be undervalued.

In his book, British policy In Palestine, Dr. McTague evaluates in clear and deliberate prose those factors and key players that took a leading part in the shaping of the current Arab-Israeli conflict. For it is in these years that the roots of the conflict have their origin. The book itself is a thorough evaluation of these years, with interesting analyses of both the characters and the moral problematics that color the conflict.

It is, without a doubt, an excellent piece of prose delivered by an academic that deserves a far more intellectually exciting environment than he is currently privy to.

Interesting and accessible
A good range of essays about Richardson's key films. Most of the essays are easily read (not overly academic)--the work with TOM JONES is especially solid. Recommended as an overview of a talented man's career

Prepare to see the world!
This book is a "must have" for any fan of literature, science fiction, or just plain good story telling!

"The Time Machine" is the opening story in this book and starts the reader moving through the world of H.G. Wells. He will entice you with stories that pique the imagination, that range from the ancient past into the far future.

Over sixty short stories adorn this classic work, including:

The Empire of the Ants - killer ants from South America?

The Land Ironclad - land ships with guns can change trench warfare? (written in December 1903)

The Door In The Wall - a man recounts his boyhood memories of a door leading to a magical garden...

The Tempatation of Harringay - an artist is tempted by the devil himself

The Country of the Blind - is the one eyed man King in the land of the blind?

The Flowering of a Strange Orchid - Vampire flowers?

The New Accelerator - a man creates a mixture that allows him to move at ten times normal speed (concept adapted for a "Wild Wild West" episode)

Get the book, you won't be sorry.

Electroceramics : Materials, Properties, Applications
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (2003)
Authors: A. J. Moulson and John Herbert
Amazon base price: $125.00
Average review score:

An excellent undergraduate-level textbook in electroceramics
The electroceramics community, in general, has been suffering from a lack of good textbooks which cover all major fields of interest of the subject in a clear and comprehensive manner. The book by Moulson and Herbert is an outstanding exception to that. It can conveniently be used as a senior undergraduate or a first year graduate text. The first 2 chapters of the book summarize the prerequisite background needed in the solid state sciences and ceramic/materials processing, respectively. In the following chapters, a wide range of materials such as conductors, linear dielectrics, piezoelectrics, magnetic materials etc. are presented. The text is easy to read. The underlying physical principles of each subject are well blended with the materials related phenomena, thus providing the the reader with the "broader picture" in a concise fashion. The book contains well-chosen self study problems at the end of each chapter which address practical engineering problems as well as fundamental principles. It is my hope that more books like this will come along soon so that the materials science and engineering students are as well served as their peers in other disciplines in the sciences and engineering. I highly recommend this book for those who are seeking a good textbook and/or for those who would like to self-study the subject.

An excellent anthology!
I recommend this book to anyone interested in poetry. In Five Seventeenth-Century Poets: Donne, Herbert, Crashaw, Marvell, Vaughan, the author addresses metaphysical poetry. Brijraj Singh took a subject that I have often found cryptic and explained it exquisitely. His historical background on the poets and annotated poems put this beautiful poetry into a context that was easy to comprehend. Upon finishing the book, I have a greater understanding and appreciation of 17th century poetry. Mr. Singh wrote a superlative book!

A guidebook for parsons and a guide in spirituality!
First (I am verily a bit emberassed to state the following); however, as many say the truth (and only the truth) will set you free. Therefore, I must state, write and say that I had never heard of George Herbert; nor any of his writings. This book in question, i.e., George Herbert: Country Parson, the Temple (The Classics of Western Spirituality by Wall N. John Jr, et al is not a book in the traditonal sense. It should be seen as a guidebook for the country parson and offers advice on how to comfort and the latter part is on the nature of church terms, e.g., virtue. I would have to classify this book, i.e., George Herbert: Country Parson, the Temple (The Classics of Western Spirituality) by Wall N. John Jr, et al as a great book and a must have for anyone whom is interested in books dealing with spirtual beings.

A great addition to your library
I got this as a gift and am very glad that I did. While not a complete identification tool like RIC or SEARS, this is an awesome book for someone starting out with an interest in Imperial coins. It provides detailed inscriptions, RIC and SEARS numbers for the coins pictured, then provides an index of inscriptions and subjects. Truly a great catalog of a collection I want to see in person. Worth the price.

A 19th century career with new millenium overtones.
John Wanamaker: Philadelphia Merchant is a fast paced, well researched account of one of America's premiere retailers. The author, Herbert Ershkowitz ascribes Wanamaker's success to beliefs critical to new millenium themes. The importance of business to the community. Advertising as the key to marketing success. Religion as the foundation of society. Must reading for the biography buff; the marketing major; the proactive capitalist and the budding fashionista.

Tales of diabolical contracts and other things.
This book is in print as I write this, as part of the Fantasy Masterworks edition of _Time and the Gods_; it is a collection of 18 short stories.

"A Tale of London" - in a reversal of the usual pattern, a sultan has asked his seer to relate to him a vision of the fabulous city of London.

"Thirteen at Table" - The ghosts of twelve women wronged by old Sir Richard Arlen have had dinner with him every night for the last thirty years.

"The City on Mallington Moor" - A rumor is spreading of a strange city of white marble appearing out of the mist.

"Why the Milkman Shudders When He Perceives the Dawn" - this is a tale told in the Hall of the Ancient Company of Milkmen when all the craft are assembled.

"The Bad Old Woman in Black" - What to do in the face of an omen of evil?

"The Bird of the Difficult Eye" - a tale of the only thief employed by West End jewellers since the distressing tale of Thangobrind (see _The Book of Wonder_).

"The Long Porter's Tale" - Gerald Jones, suffering from melancholy, went to a magician in London and was diagnosed with flux of time, and was recommended to take a day at the Edge of the World as treatment.

"The Loot of Loma" - The raiders didn't know that a priest's written curse had been slipped into their loot.

"The Secret of the Sea" - What do ships worship, and what temple do they go to?

"How Ali Came to the Black Country" - Many people may say that technology and pollution are modern devils, but how many people are serious enough to take the traditional steps to imprison devils?

"The Bureau D'Echanges De Maux" - Mysterious shop offering strange goods.

"A Story of Land and Sea" - continuation of "The Loot of Bombasharna" from _The Book of Wonder_.

"A Narrow Escape" - A magician in a dank cavern below Belgrave Square and his preparations to destroy London.

"The Watch-Tower" - When a tower is built to guard forever against the Saracens, forever may be longer than you think.

"How Plash-Goo Came to the Land of None's Desire"

"The Three Sailors' Gambit" - Sometimes even the Devil can't win at the game of selling souls. A chess story.

"The Exiles' Club" - How are the mighty fallen; and even the fallen have to go somewhere.

"The Three Infernal Jokes" - Not so much selling a soul, as trading away an option.
