This is collection of short stories that offers a wide mix of speculative genres. Fantasy, SF, horror, and just plain weird. The stories run the gambit and most are good. "Jeo Defined" and "Moon Warrior" were excellent stories and well worth purchasing the book. Even just the so-so stories were enjoyable and all the authors are names to keep a look out for. In the end, this is a book of up and coming writers and a few of them will no doubt be big names someday.

I didn't know what to expect from this collection of short stories but I was happily surprised. The stories cover a wide range from fantasy, science fiction, and horror to those hard to classify strange stories. Each one is worth reading. My favorites were the one about a radio personality who was singing the Siren's song and the one about a criminal who is forced to undergo "augmentation" to control him. Some wild stuff for a great read.

This book would be useful if the turnover in the hotel industry were not so rampant. The information was very helpful, but I spent a great deal of time trying to match hotels referenced in the book with their current owner or management company. Of course my next concern was the relevance of a property 's review if the hotel had indeed changed its management!

Thank you, thank you! After hours of online searching, talking with travel agents and pouring over brochures, finally an objective assesment of where to stay! We found the perfect resort for our honeymoon and will return for our first anniversary!

Every turn of the page shows a different sort of truck with a short rhyme describing its function. the rhymes and the illustrations are simple and uncomplicated. The Truck Book reminds me of the wonderful Golden Books I read many years ago.

My two year old son and I have been reading this book several times each night for many months now. He loves trucks and he loves this book. Whenever we're driving and he spots a tow truck, a telephone truck, whatever sort of truck, he wants me to repeat the matching rhyme from the book. By now, I've memorized them all.

Prolific Stuart Woods is back with his 8th Stone Barrington novel, of his 24 fictional works to date. If he had accidentally called Stone "James Bond" it would have been just as believable, as Barrington sleuths in espionage and intrigue during the day, and drinks and bed hops during the night. Traveling to London via the Concorde on an unlimited expense account, much of this book seems devoted to the lifestyles of the rich (even if not famous). Two of Stone's old girlfriends dominate much of the proceedings, even Arrington Calder herself -- the running gag being that she and Stone will never marry (they came close once before) 'cause she won't go through life as Arrington Barrington!

There was quite a degree of suspense in the 300+ pages, although to me it was as much caused by "what's going on here" than the story per se. Even when it ended, ..., we weren't sure what they did or why it mattered, despite a couple of murders, almost unconnected, along the way. In fact, it was like leaving a movie you thought was pretty entertaining but you never did figure out the fundamental plot. Even Stone didn't know whom he was working for half the time. We'd no doubt fail the quiz at the end on who did what to whom. Moreover, an appearance by Stone's old police partner Dino (still on active duty, but apparently able to travel at will to bail this guy out time after time) did little to advance the story line and thus seemed somehow irrelevant.

Thinking it might be time to let Stone "die off", we note from the author's web site two more Barrington books are in the works, as well as another featuring his newer female lead, Holly Barker. Woods claims he's writing two books per year for the foreseeable future; while still fans, we would like to see a little more substance, a little less sex, and a more cohesive plot. Woods has all the skills to pull that off and more. We're just not sure they are on display that well in the Short Forever.

The Short Forever by Stuart Woods is just one of the many books written by him with the character "Stone Barrington." Stone is an ex-cop turned investigator for a law firm. In this novel, a client, John Bartholemew, is sent to him by an acquaintance of Stone's. He tells Stone to go to London to bring back his neece and to have the man she wants to marry sent to jail for life. Turns out the woman is not his neece and the man is a former man in British military operations that used to work with Stone's client. It also turns up that John Bartholomew is not his real name. Stone, when arriving in london, is reacquainted with an old fling of his, who is now engaged. Stone also gets caught up with busines partners of the man he is supposed to have sent to jail. To Stone, the review of this book is as confuing as what he must go through to solve everything. I personally loved this book and plan on reading other novels in the series.

I greatly anticipated the release of this book for quite some time, and I was not let down! This next Stone Barrington book lives up tp the standards!

In this book, Stone ends up overseas in London, working for a man whom he finds out he knows very little about. John Bartholomew, or if that is even his real name, has sent Stone to convince his "neice" to return home to the states. Stone's job is to separate her from her lover, Lance Cabot, who is involved in some "illegal matters".

John and Lance Cabot are always one step ahead of Stone, keeping him guessing as to the truth of what they really are after. Are they really working together in some secret intelligence agency? Or are the rival enemies, both hoping to nail the other? This is what Stone must figure out.

And of course, what book would it be without the appearances of Stone's old time flame Arrington and old NYPD partner Dino Bachetti.

I greatly enjoyed this novel and cannot wait for the next one already! Stuart Woods cannot write them fast enough!

It is the most shallow coverage of Notes that I've ever seen. I still don't understand how they managed to pack so little information into so many pages.

For example, a new feature of 4.5 is Multidatabase indexing through a site search database. Here is the unabridged exerpt from this "reference" on site search:

"The Multi Databse Indexing feature enables you to create many indices at once. After these indices exist, it is possible to search more than one database at a time for data (such as a client's name or company name). This feature can be extremely helpfull when designing a Web page. As shown in figure 8.21, you must be a manager of the file to enable this option."

That's it. That pathetic, inane, useless, and technically incaccurate blurb is all the info this book provides on site search. They don't even know what a site search database is (its the tool used to actually build a multidatabase index). And the worst part is that the whole book is like this. Uhh... I don't know exactly what this is but uhh.... here's the property box for it and uhh... you can click boxes and stuff on it. And uhh.. oh, yeah, you have to have sufficient access to do that.

Avoid this one like the plague. New Riders Publishing should really be ashamed of themselves.

This book is less than useless, I had more questions than answars after reading it. The book is terribly shallow and never goes into any depth.

Some folks feel it is not a good book, so I went to a local bookstore and spent an hour leafing ... for the 2nd time. For my project [ where there were some challenges, this book came closest to giving me script pointers, though not solutions]

I beleive this book is by far the best I have seen for Notes/Domino 4.x and would be happy if they released one for R 5.0 - same manner....

Great book in my personal opinion..and stands out in the Notes/Domino arena.

I've played mage for a few years now, before third edition graced the shelves, and I found that this book was not terribly helpful. While it had several high points, the extra skills included on a whole could be gained by taking a specialty in an already listed skill. The merit and flaw section was interesting, with the publication of revised and third edition, it's no longer needed. The expanded tradition sections, were helpful, but sense the publication of third edition, they are no longer up to date and to be honest, if you want to know about traditions The Traditions Gathered set of books is a far better resource. While The Book of shadows is an interesting read, it's definitely not a required resource for mage.

This is a good book which has a lot of information to make your character richer (merits and flaws, extra skills, more detailed information on each Tradition, the Technocracy and others, etc.). However, most of the sections in this book are beginning to show their age, as the information presented here has been revised and updated to much more practical information in several other Mage books. The section with the parables, though, is still one of my favorite Mage reads.

The book of shadows, which was written between the publishing of the 1st and second editions of Mage, is at this point slightly "behind the times," especially what with the release of Mage 3rd edition. Somewhere between irrelevant and necessary. Has some good basic material on the various Mage fringes, as well as a lot of expanded stuff for character creation.

This sounded like a great book. I was familiar with most of the authors as tops in mystery. But what a disappointment! Except for one story, these stories are plain, lame trash. I was even dissatisfied with the pick from my favorite author, Edward Hoch. The publisher should contact me if they really want a book worthy of the title, but you, the reader, should steer clear of this book unless you have insomnia.

It was Block's name that drew me to this collection, but it turned out his story was not my favorite. I enjoyed the range of voices and themes throughout the tape. Were the stories best of the 20th century? That's a pretty big boast. I don't think it met it, but it was an enjoyable listen.

This book gave me an understanding of the basics of Novell Netware 4.1. For the needs of running a Novell site on a daily basis, the book leaves you hanging. Not enough detail is provided on Novell utilities, their mentioned, but never explained how to use them.
