When I first saw the book, I was transfixed. I must have spent quite a number of hours going through the pages, standing up, the world dissolving around me. My particular favorite is one picture of Gary Oldman lying in a coffin. It captured him perfectly. I don't know much about photography, but the beauty of his works is that it can be understood and loved by anyone - there is a human association within every shot. For a while I was reluctant to buy it - the price was a bit too much for me, but I kept on returning to the bookstore to see it, taking a half an hour bus ride each time at the other side of the city. I grew restless when I didn't take the ritual visit. Eventually I did get it - and I finally feel complete. He captured perfection.

Not much to pay for a book that is this outstanding. The photographs themselves are really beautifully reproduced, very high quality printing supporting how good the photos themselves are. Fascinating layout also. Great photos. This is one of those books that you keep going back to and still enjoy. You will be happy that you got this book.

Albert Watson's images in this book are quite simply some of the best images of Black & White photography in any book! They are technically perfect and arrestingly beautiful. His images are powerful, moving, creative, and always well composed. Furthermore, the printing in this book is one of the best I've ever seen.

If you appriciate masterful black & white images you would probably be happy with this book even if you had paid 5 times what this costs!

Not only is this book easy for ANYone to learn how to write a reasearch paper, it is especially interesting to kids because of the style of writing. It was funny! But also informative. I highly recommend it to anyone who feels uninformed on the basics of how to write a research paper.

From a Three Cornered World takes poems from Jim Mitsui's three previous books and adds them to three sections of new poems. Jim Mitsui, is of course of Japanese descent, but the poet is also a Washington state poet, and an American poet. From the beginning, Mitsui shows careful attention to the things which influence his life. Jim Mitsui takes the reader on a guided tour of his family and his wonderfully rich view of the world. The reader sees the author's world from a multitude of perspectives ranging from childhood to career to friendships to love. Add to this that the poet has a magnificent sense of personal history, that is a personal perspective of history, and you cannot go wrong. Being fortunate enough to listen to Mitsui both read and talk about his poetry, I have come away with a sense that he wants me to discover rather than be told what to expect from these poems. Often influenced by paintings and the wonderful minutia of everyday life, I find myself reading his poem, "Rationale," again and again. The two line ars poetica is as powerful as that of Neruda. Quite simply, this is a fascinating collection of poetry of which I shall never tire.

A good variety of problems, easy, medium, and hard. I was able to read through the chapters and understand the mathematics. The computer programs truly complement the sections.

Though written nearly 40 years ago, the strategies outlined in this book still ring true. Problems with time management are indeed timeless, as are the solutions. This book actually presents a "fresh" look at time management, void of the psychobabble that so infects such works today

What a pleasure to read this book. I am currently covering the pre Civil War period (Industrial Revolution) with one class and Colonial Times with another. I found myself reading excerpts from this book to both classes even before I finished it. My kids are usually slower than the regular education kids but not when it came to the discussion part. I was truly amazed at how well it clicked. Some of their comments were amazing. We found ourselves discussing morality, the soul and a myriad of similar topics. I gave a copy to the social studies department head and she was just as taken as I was. Rest assured I will be pulling this book out in my own classes for years to come. Bravo!

My children (ages 3&4) loved this book! We rented it so much from the local library that it was well worth the money to buy it.

Fun, fun, fun! My kids love the Slim Jim Watkins books, and this new addition is no exception. Cowgirl Gabby proves to the rough and tumble cowboys that a few kind words have the power to tame both man and beast. Knowlton has managed to provide plenty of humor with a positive message for young and old. Her use of simile and metaphor provide the flavor of the old west while tickling the funnybone of the reader ("horse is as jumpy as popcorn in a skillet"). Rice's illustrations are visually appealing, and compliment the text well. This is a winner for readers of all ages. With Slim Jim's sweet talk to Gabby at the end of the story, I wonder if the next installment will involve a weddin'?

James places Fuller-Ossoli in her contextual environment, both the United States and Europe. The sociological and cultural discussion undergirds James' thesis that Fuller is the superior of Emerson and other Transcendentalists, but is forgotten for two major reasons. First and foremost, because she is a woman, and second because her male peers denigrated and demeaned her work. The one male who recognized Fuller's genius was Horace Greely, and he did not participate in the writing of her biorgraphies.

An astute study of Fuller's work, as well as the overpowering patriarchal culture of the mid-19th century. A very good read, easy to understand and well written.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with Mrs. James book. I'm quite disturbed by the way people have slammed it summing it up as "an article". Obviously, those people were somewhat angered by her way of thinking. My guess is they are not ready to face their own challenges and demons.

On the other hand, perhaps they simply do not wish to simplify their lives, and that is their choice. Some are minimalists and some are not.

Yet, that is the way of the world, disgard what makes one uncomfortable.

Perhaps, a reader should just take this book for what it is, practical little observations on everyday joys to help inspire one to at least start cleaning up their lives.

It seems so ironic that some people would want a complicated book on how to simplify!

In short, do not buy this book if you are looking to read a great analytical work of academa! Instead, only buy this book if you want a fun true-to-everyday life helpful read.

I loved it!

This book would be a good place to start for anyone just starting to consider scaling down and simplifying life - or even for someone who is just curious about the whole idea. It is a very basic book, and for people who've already made significant changes towards more simple living, it won't be very useful. But if you are overworked, stressed out, buried in clutter and feel you don't have a moment for yourself, pick up this book! It would be a good place to begin.

Most of what the author recommends, our family already does. Some of it IS common sense, but most of it is "counter cultural" and many of us wouldn't think of doing these things on our own. I think she has some really good ideas. She is also a good example of someone who has lived an extremely successful, hectic life and moved toward a more simple existence - without depriving herself of anything she truly values.

I agree with another reviewer that she's a little "misanthropic" - she does seem to consider people "clutter" and to be quick to recommend ditching the humans in your life. While this can sometimes be good advice with certain individuals, I truly value my family, friends, and "houseguests" [which she implies are always "unwanted"]. I would not care for a life without these dear ones - simple or no. Sometimes people are messy, and sometimes we do need to move on from damaging relationships; but in general human companionship is worth the "complications" in my opinion.

This is a good general "beginners guide to the simple life" and is also a very quick and easy read - good for mommies like me [and others] who have to do their reading in 5 minute snatches here and there!

I really enjoyed reading this book as well as "Inner Simplicity". It gave us the courage to escape the suburban life in the big city (Houston, TX) and move to the country! We are renting a cabin on a Longhorn cattle ranch in Central Texas. We've managed to scale down to about 1000 sq ft and I don't miss ANY of the baggage we left behind (though I'm sure the charity we gave it to is happy!). This book is not for anyone who thinks you have to have a lot of money saved to live a simple life. It's for people who genuinely want to make a committment to changing their present lifestyle which may mean giving up some "toys" or climbing a career ladder. We made sure we could sustain ourselves on a modest living in our new surroundings before we took the leap. I traded rush hour traffic twice a day for a swing and a cup of coffee on my front porch at sunrise. You CAN get your sanity back, but be ready to give up consumerism...you won't miss it!
