A great gift for a new Dad
I gave this book to my husband after the birth of our second child. I was really impressed and touched by some of the activities suggested in the book. Some were so simple, yet things we don't think about when going about our busy lives. I think any Dad would enjoy reading it, but especially someone becoming a Dad for the first time.

Great way to get the ideas flowing
I gave a 5-star review to a book that's a "companion" of sorts to this one, by the same author: "101 Ways to Make Your Child Feel Special." Both books are wonderful in that they give parents inspiration on affectionate acts to show a child that they're loved.

"101 Ways to be a Special Dad" has somehow additionally managed to capture the kinds of things that fall in a dad's special sphere. It's a lot more than just a re-hash of the same material.

I recommend this book to any father, as a way to keep focused on nurturing a child in those ways that only a dad can.

Great Information
I found this book to be very helpful in potty training my daughter. We had tried several different approaches. She was over 2 1/2 when we trained her. This book works.

A first-rate resource for new parents
Now in a completed revised and updated edition, Toilet Training by Vicki Lansky is a first-rate resource for new parents on the art of teaching toddlers how to take care of themselves in the bathroom. Step-by-step instructions, wisdom from experts, advice on the question of whether to use potty chairs or adapters, means to deal with bed wetting, and more fill this pages of this welcome, necessary, and "user friendly" guidebook. A bonus children's book, "Koko Bear's New Potty," is included for reading aloud to one's toddler to help him or her become used to the transition. Also very highly recommended are Vicki Lansky's earlier parenting guides, Feed Me! I'm Yours (Meadowbrook; ISBN: 0671884433); Games Babies Play: From Birth To Twelve Months (Book Peddlers; ISBN: 0916773582); and Practical Parenting Tips: Over 1,500 Helpful Hints For The First Five Years (Meadowbrook; ISBN: 0671792059).

My son really related to KoKo Bear
My son is 3 1/2 and is having a hard time understanding why Daddy and Mommy don't live together anymore. This book helped me introduce the word Divorce to my son and was useful in explaining how to help my child cope with the feelings and trauma of separation. It gives useful tips to parents on how to talk and draw out your feelings. The illustrations were great and very realistic. My son wanted to read it twice!

A must-read for pre-school kids of divorce!
This book hits home the message that divorce is not a child's fault, and that parents still love them, though now they are a family apart. My child was only 18mos. during that difficult marriage problem/separation period, and two years later raised many questions why Mommy and Daddy were divorced. This book helped to answer those important questions, and gave me excellent "talking points" to utilize.

An Absolute Must Read Book - Its a Goldmine
Located in a small community, resources are non existent for a parent seeking help in dealing with divorce and its effects on children. I am so glad to have found this book. It allows the child to associate and identify on his or her own. I purchased several other books on the subject, but nothing came close for this age group. I would suggest Lansky's book, "Divorce Book for Parents" as a must as well.

Ok but I've Seen Better
This is a small book (with TONS of white space) of simple ideas you can do to say I Love You. However, I found that the majority of the ideas are so simple that no one should need a book to tell them. For example, everyone knows that bringing home a bouquet of flowers makes someone feel nice.

I dont think this book will inspire you much but it is still worth a look. If you are wanting ideas that are more creative and will have a bigger "wow" factor, I'd highly recommend The RoMANtic's Guide by Michael Webb. After reading his book I can see why the media calls him The World's Most Romantic Man.

Much-needed inspiration
We guys often take a while to snap to the fact that our ladies need frequent small acts of affection to feel loved. Even once we've got the concept in our heads, it's hard for us to know where to start - it's just not something we're used to.

Vicki Lansky comes to the rescue with this book. Her ideas give great inspiration for little ways to show affection (without crossing the line into the saccharine.) And there's enough variety to keep the spice in it.

After getting some practice with the ideas here, you may find that you've developed your own sense of how to keep things going.

I was disappointed
If I had seen this in a bookstore, I would have passed it up. The book is flimsy and the bear is very small. The diaper pants for the bear are very tiny and difficult to put on, so my little boy doesn't really get any benefit from them. I don't care for the format of having parent notes on the same page as the story. In all, very disappointing.

potty plez
the cutest potty book in the world my sister loves to play with the dolls, and also went from no potty ice cream to sissa potty time plez and it's just a fun book i'm going to buy more for my potty trining twin couzins they would love it and even more for the rest of my couzins too!

Very Helpful
This book was a great way to get my daughter interested in potty training. The bear is cute and the text models positive reinforcment and patience in the training process. I loaned my out and lost it so now I'm getting another copy for my second child!

For Women Only
I purchased this book for my friend to help him understand what his kids were going through and help him learn to deal with a bitter ex-wife. I thought the book would offer solutions to co-parenting issues or offer advise on how to work with a less-than-amicable former spouse. Instead, this book focussed on women who were dealing with deliquent husbands - how to make them pay, how to keep them involved, etc. It would have been more helpful to additionally offer advise on how to make her share the kids, how to make her co-parent with him, how help her move beyond the fight of the parents to the health of the children. I know the roles can be reversed in either case, but the author obviously felt that women were more likely to nurture the children. This, unfortunately, is not always the case.

great practical advice
There were so many great common sense pieces of advice..lots of good stories that let you know, others have been through this..I read this book 5 years ago when going through a divorce..with lots of hard work, my ex an I have avoided the pitfalls of beating each other with our child...We have remained parents together...

This book was a help!

Need Help? Advice? Encouragement? Guidance? READ THIS BOOK!
This book can do wonders. It covers so much ground in a clear, concise manner. Every paragraph or two provided either insight, encouragement or advice. I bought other books on the subject of divorce and children, but nothing compares to this book. You can look for other books, but this is all you will need. The only exception, is the campanion book written by Lansky, "It's Not Your Fault, Koko Bear" Another must for those parents with young children. Both books will serve parents well. If your Ex is difficult to deal with, get this book for them. It can help defuse situations and refocus them to do the right things for the child(ren) they love.

Good food - but not exactly "health" food
This was the only how-to book I had when my six-month old began eating solids, and it really helped me get started. Now that he is a bit older (13 months) I'm a bit disconcerted by the routine use of sugar, fat, white flour, etc. in many of the recipes and recommended foods. While suggesting items such as bacon, frankfurters, etc. it does note that they should be limited. But many modern nutritionists wouldn't suggest them AT ALL (or so it seems to me as a layperson). I'd say this is a fine book for getting your very young baby started, but once s/he is older keep this book as one among several that you turn to for advice. After all, it can be nice to have a book that doesn't make you feel like a rotten mother for giving your kid a small amount of sugar or white flour!

The best resource I've found for feeding my child
What an excellent tool for parents. My husband and I have eaten primarily home cooked meals for 15 years, and now I can continue that tradition with our son. The book provides wonderful alternatives to jarred foods when baby just won't eat. I found creative ideas to use throughout the preschool years, as well.

I've given several copies away as baby gifts, not only to first time moms, but to those who are having a second or third child. This book is full of helpful and fun ideas for mealtime and snacks.

Who knew it could be so easy?
My baby isn't yet old enough to be eating solid foods, but I am so glad I bought this book ahead of time! Simple recipes for fresh, homemade baby foods (ie: puree fresh fruit and freeze in ice cube trays to make individual portions) sound much more appealing than those little jars of goop. This book covers babies from those who are just starting to eat all the way up to picky toddlers. Simple, healthy recipes are given for everything from soups to omlettes ... all with little tricks, like pureeing some veggies to sneak into your toddler's cheese pizza, or adding oatmeal to yogurt instead of milk for a toddler who's just learning to use a spoon. I'd definitely recommend this book, and may purchase additional copies as baby gifts.

It Never Dawned on me
I picked this up for a new frugal newsletter I've started and most of the things just never dawned on me. It's a complete book listing other uses for common items you probably have around the house from a simple cube of ice to worn out garden hoses. Very helpful for recycling for free. One thing I wondered dawned on the author, almost everything cleans chrome.

Matthew's Little One
Lansky and Jones have collected all the greatest lines dads have ever used to get kids to stop fighting in the the car, feed the pet, turn off the TV while doing homework, and get home before curfew. It includes winners such as: "What do you want a pet for-you've got a sister," and, "When I said 'feed the goldfish,' I didn't mean feed them to the cat." A fun gift for dad and the rest of the family, too.
