"Quo Vadis" is a Gem
Robert J. Williams has written a gem of a book in "Quo Vadis" which even I--a scientific lay person if ever there was one--could understand. Williams blends his talents as a writer with his training as a scientist to produce a compelling argument that Einstein's universally accepted "welding" of time and space needed to "prove" his theory of relativity was sophistry. Recent discoveries in astrophysics tend to bear him out. "Quo Vadis" is written in a simple, elegant style that almost everyone will find compelling. The Dean of the College of Letters and Science at UCLA finally agreed to waive its science requirement so I could graduate 30 years ago. If I enjoyed this book, you will too.

Readable Science Fiction
I started reading this book, and I did not want to put it down. The Remembrance is a book that has a well developed plot and will hold your interest. It is not too technical, yet the author's knowledge of astronomy is clear. I am a science fiction fan and highly recommend it.

My honors ESL students will love it.
I have been searching for a book that incorporates not only essay writing, but also research paper writing for a group of ESL students that have their eyes set on medical or law degrees. I have chosen it as a text for next semester (January 2001) because I have found it to be a "complete" text, which meets the needs of this special group.

I first read Journey of the Magi, I picked the book up at the library. I was totally shocked at the content, but nonetheless hooked. So much so that I went on the Net to track down the author to see if he had written other books. At first I wondered if he was arrogant, then I saw the true scholary intelligence of the writer. This is a brilliant man. A realist. If you wish to read something educational and so funny that I actually laugh out loud, this is the writer for you. I also felt that no matter his circumstances, he truly is a good compassionate man. I first read The journey of the Magi in January, I have since gone on to read all five of his books and I am a lifer. A brilliant read.

An informative historical study of five major productions
Shakespeare In Hollywood 1929-1956 is an informative historical study of five major productions and several offshoots of Shakespeare's plays by the Hollywood film studio system. The thesis is that studios like MGM and Warner Bros. make Shakespeare-based films in order to enhance their images as creators of artistic (as opposed to populist) entertainments. The films during this time span also reflect such Hollywood phenomena as contract players, overproduction, adaptations based on popular genres, that came to characterize Hollywood as an industry. Robert Wilson, professor of English at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, writes with an impressive blend of insight, scholarship, and skill to fully engage the attention of the reader. Shakespeare In Hollywood 1929-1956 is highly recommended reading for students of Hollywood film making history, Shakespearean studies, and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in how the greatest literary writer in the history of the English language fared at the hands of Hollywood movie moguls during the "Golden Age" of film and the studio system.

A wonderful way to experience Shakespeare
I admit, I've read and re-read Shakespeare, but never quite got the rhythm of the language - the meaning of the prose. I understood the basic plot, and with the help of teachers (whether in High School or college) I understood the basic meaning.
BUT after I discovered what a performance of Shakespeare could do...I was hooked. I've every play that comes to town - and now I'm hooked on these audiobooks.
Listening to Shakespeare (and you can listen anywhere - I recently enjoyed As You Like It as I painted my kitchen) is a fantastic experience - perfect listening for fans of the Bard - or anyone, like me, who knew they should be enjoying Shakespeare and yet struggled with the writing.
These Caedmon Audios - performed by The Shakespeare Recording Society - have all exceeded expectation. I highly recommend.
Shakespeare was meant to be heard, afterall.

Great
This book is a must for any Billy The Kid, or Lincoln Co. War buff. Mr. Lavish gets to the point, and backs up what he says. It is very different than your average run of the mill book on the Lincoln County War, and gives a very different view. If this subject is where your interest is, then this is a MUST READ BOOK.

An original and excellent book
"Horn Books" obviously does not know what it is talking about. Unfortunatly for use there innate and under used brain can not comprehend a novel better than the cheesy 5-cent "adult" romance novels that generally populate their ogrish minds. The Three Investigators rock!

The best and most accurate portrayal
of B-1 Bob you're going to read.
I had always suspected he might
be nuts, now I know. "Shut Up,Fag!"
possesses the right mix of biographical
background, infamous quotations
and biting humour. I thoroughly
enjoyed this wonderful book.
