it was so exciting that I read the book in less than a week.
Ilove the way Mr. Murder was characterized to look like his victim. It was like i could picture every scene on a movie screen. I also admired the way Dean K. captured every nuiance of the characters as well as the scenes.

It makes you think about what you don't know.

I loved the book. It brought back previous ideas about what we learned in history about vanishing tribes and villages.

Even though the book is fiction it makes you think of what could happen.

Night chills
I loved this book! It really captured my imagination and was truly a masterpiece. It showed the dark...twisted side of literature. Dean R. Koonts is one of the greatest writers of the 21st century. I rank his genius up there with such great writers as edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare. I think he will definatley leave his mark on the world.

A Hilarious Comic Novel
When I finally found a copy of this book, I was not disappointed. Different from other Koontz tomes, this novel, set in World War II, has a great cast of characters, and is full of laughs, sex, and zany insights into something (war) that is normally not funny.

Classics
Now here are three of Dean Koontz's greatest works, the best of the bunch being Watchers. Watchers features all the classic elements of a Koontz book, including a favorite addition of fans: the intelligent dog. The story is written in such a masterful way that you're caught up in the story, even the sub-stories, featuring both killers of the book, are incredibly captivating, and the premise of the story is never overdone to the point of being ludicrous. A must read. The second book is Whispers, which is a disturbing tale, delving into the human psyche and playing on your worst fears. This a less fantastical tale dealing with a duo of murderers and the unfortunate woman they set their sights on. The book keeps you going, and is very hard to put down after getting through several of the plot twists. The final, is Demon Seed... surely the most bizzarre of Koontz's works, features an intelligent computer that takes hostage a woman in her own house. The story is difficult to explain without giving much away, but does include the topic of impregnation of the woman by the computer...and well...it IS a very odd story. All in all, three of Dean Koontz's most original and well-done stories...all are a must-read.

Emocionante

Would make a good movie
In this story of a genetic invention gone wrong Dean Koontz describes his monster with such discriptiveness that you can accually picture the horrible thing. His carefull attention to detail made the book come to life. In reading this you will get to know Ben shaddway( Marine recon Nam vet who sells realestate) and Rebecca Leben ( a lively young women in the process of divorcing a monster). I wanted the story to go on and on just to see what happened to its characters. This story contains alot of Bruce Willis worthy action, including car chases, foot pursuits, and martial arts.I recommend that before reading this set aside allot of free time because you wont be able to put it down once you pick it up.

Vintage Koontz
In WATCHERS, Dean Koontz weaves some of his most powerful, recurring themes into a story so compelling it demands to be read again--and again! Dangerous government experiments run amok; characters tortured by terrible childhoods and fears of losing those they love most; and the redemptive power of love and hope. These themes serve to give this novel an emotional punch that few thrillers can match these days.

Perhaps Koontz's greatest accomplishment with this novel is that the story succeeds on so many levels. Readers who appreciate finely-tuned phrases and scalpel-clean, lyrical prose can delight in the prowess of a master wordsmith. Other readers, seeking only a story that delivers an entertaining plot, will be riveted by the twists and turns and "Oh, My God" moments that this story delivers. Lastly, those readers who have followed Koontz's career for many years can read WATCHERS simply to appreciate the spectacular progression of this author's skill.

I've read WATCHERS many times, and every time, I pick up a technique that I can apply to my own suspense novels. Needless to say, this book has gained the "must read, then re-read" status on my personal reading list!

My Idea of the Perfect Book
I think Watchers is about as close as you can come to a perfect book. It's scary, it's sad, it's uplifting, it's even funny at times. You'll love all of the characters (even the "bad guys", and that includes the murderous beast and heartless assassin) by the end of the book, if only because you love to hate them. Dean Koontz seems to be great at making all his characters seem human, rather than plot elements. And if you don't love Einstein by the end of the book, you're a heartless loner who hates the world. I haven't read any other Dean Koontz novels (although I'm starting Strangers), but I can't imagine that the other ones could be any better. By the way, if you're thinking about giving this book a pass because "it's not your type of book", let me assure you that whatever type of book is "yours", Watchers is it. It has something for everyone. BUY THIS BOOK.

Dean Koontz's BEST book!
I started reading this book on a business trip because I didn't have anything else to read. I'd been told by several people to read this book, but somehow could never get interested in it. However, within the first 10 pages I was totally hooked. This book succeeds on so many levels! It's a funny story about an extremely intelligent dog (Einstein), it's a story about the redemption of a woman (Nora) who is only beginning to discover life, it's the story of a man (Travis) who is learning how to live again (and the relationship he develops with the woman), and most of all it's a thoroughly creepy and scary horror novel. The Outsider is a genetically created monster, bred for warfare, that escapes in Southern California and goes on a murderous rampage while the government tries to stop it. Add to this a rogue assassin seeking to profit from the situation, and the fact that the Outsider is hunting for Einstien, who is also a genetically engineered marvel from the same lab that created the Outsider. Put it all together, and you've got one of the best books you'll ever read. It's a fast-paced story you'll lose sleep over. If this is the type of quality that Dean Koontz typically puts out, then I'm a Dean Koontz fan for life!

Intensity

Not much intensity here...
Again Dean Koontz is reliably consistent. His stories feature the same types of characters, ranging from the sadistic murderer to the self-empowering hero who must overcome her disturbed past. Unfortunately I found myself feeling little for the character of Chyna Shepard, or even for the traumatised young girl, Ariel. To me Chyna's plight was ridiculously far-fetched. Her troubled childhood was a huge motivating factor for her actions but you have to wonder if these characters we continually see in Dean Koontz' books are selflessly heroic or just plain warped.

'Intensity' is patchy in some parts but it does have it's moments. Some passages stretch on and on, but there are spots where the book will keep you turning the pages. Admittedly, I found it interesting that the story was staged over a period of just 24 hours. The only other Dean Koontz book I have read that has done this was 'Shattered.' So I think there can be limitations and Koontz handles it well.

The reason why I like Koontz is his unfailing faith in the human race. That's why I keep reading his books. The bad guy often seems to be the worst possible kind of person imaginable. In fact (as is the case with Intensity) he often has that dark sense of the supernatural. Koontz' heroes on the other hand seem mostly to be ordinary folk who've had it rough their whole life. You can't help but feel a sense of justice when they triumph - and they always do.

I didn't find this book to be exceptional, I just enjoyed 'Intensity' for what it was - a well-told tale.

Finally, a real "page-turner"
"Intensity" was my first Koontz book. As an avid reader of thriller novels, I was mildly amused and entirely not surprised by the ubiquitous byline which invariably appears on all books of this genre: "You will not be able to put this book down". Well, my cynicism proved to be wrong this time. This is truly the first book which I could not put down, from page 1. Regrettably, I started it at 11pm, so obviously I did not get much sleep that night. Koontz uses a simple yet effective method to lure his readers to read on - he doesn't give you a minute to pause and take a breath. Amenities such as taking a break for "nature calls" are out of the question; you'll have to take the book with you. His clever use of different tenses for the two main characters (Chyna-Past;Vess-Present) adds a nice touch, as do the mysterious coastal elks (although it is to be regretted this theme has not been developed further). I agree, it is a predictable book, but then again - aren't almost all thriller novels predictable? What makes "Intensity" better than average is the fulfillment of the "you will not put this book down" promise. Read this book, but don't start it late at night!

Dean Koontz makes things intense with "Intensity"
He was born in Pennsylvania, a teacher before he became a writer, and his students attacked him. He soon later quit his job as a teacher and began writing full time. His wife supported him financially while he started his writing career, and a great one at that! Many of Dean Koontz's works, such as Icebound, From the Corner of His Eye, False Memory, Strangers, and Dragon Tears were very popular. Another popular five star book he wrote was Intensity. Intensity can lead a mind to wonder just what will happen next. In the story, a visit to Laura's home in Napa Valley to see her family turns deadly. Laura brings her best friend along for the ride. During this family reunion, a spider-eating killer, Edgler Vess, murders everybody in the house along with Laura. However, those who hide under beds shall always survive. After the slaughter, Chyna, Laura's friend sneaks through the house to find everyone murdered in cold blood. She tiptoes mysteriously and warily down the stairway and out the door. In fear of being found by Edgler Vess, she seeks to hide once again. With nowhere else to hide, she turns to the killer's motor home, where she finds old victims and a sewing kit. She has a few close calls in the duration of Edgler Vess' travel back home. Chyna lives to try to save the other potential victims and get justice for her friend, but does she get the justice she deserves? This is a really well written piece of literature. If you want chills to run up and down your spine then I recommend that you read this book.
