Most interesting and fast paced tale
This was one of the most interesting and fast paced vampire tales I've read lately. Granted, the heroine can be a little anoying, but not always... very imaginative story. Keeps your interest.

The book was fast-paced, and much like Anne Rice
I enjoyed this book from the beginning! I read the whole thing in about a day and 1/2. I just couldn't put it down. Kilpatrick has a way with words, and I intend on looking into more Kilpatrick!

Fast paced novel with a new take on the vampire! Good read!
This novel will grab you from the opening scene and never let you go. The plot moves swiftly along surprising twists as the street kid and the Byron-loving undead hero chase across two countries. A great read

enthralling horror novel
It's been a rough two years for Claire Mowatt with her husband dying in a freak accident and then two years later her Aunt Lillian is declared dead in a drowning accident. Claire is driving up to Chesborough, four hours away from Toronto, with her twelve-year-old son to inspect the lake front cottage she inherited from Aunt Lillian. The owners of Nirvana, The ETERNAL CITY, a self contained gated and domed community on Skeleton lakes already made Claire an offer on the place.

When they arrive at the cottage, they meet the next door neighbor Gord Roberts and his son Jeremy. Gord implores her not to sell the property and to join him in his fight against Nirvana. Ever since the complex was built, the animals and fish are dying off and people who oppose the ETERNAL CITY wind up dead or missing. Varik, the CEO of Nirvana, wants Claire just like he wants what the unholy creatures he made a pact with promised him.

Nancy and Michael Kilpatrick have written an enthralling horror novel about creatures that tap into humanity's basic desires by promising to fulfill them in return for services rendered. The actions of the hero and the heroine are believable and the creatures act according to their biological imperative so it's inevitable that when they meet the results are catastrophic. ETERNAL CITY is what horror is all about.

Unexpectedly Great.
I originally was hesitant to read this author because I thought she was a romance novelist. Many of her vampire books are advertised as vampire romance. This is book is not romance, it is truly vampiric and more erotic than romantic. If your a fan of vampire stories you will love this book. Also try the author's other vampire stories/novels. The Power of Blood series are great too.

Excellent Vampire Novel With Romeo and Juliet Theme
"As One Dead", named for the line in "Romeo and Juliet": "As one dead in the bottom of a tomb", is based on the role-playing game, Vampire: The Masquerade. Like the Shakespearean play the title of this book is cited from, there is a forbidden love that blossoms against the Gothic Toronto setting. The Juliet character is an 11th-century vampire named Bianka, born into darkness by two different makers, one is Toreador and the other Brujah. She's come to Toronto with her pet raven (Ravena)--to the Box, to be more exact, a small section in the city where a stubborn group of Camarilla are confined by the Sabbat, a ruthless bunch of bloodsuckers. Bianka's purpose is to help free the imprisoned Kindred from the Sabbat's hold, but her mission is conflicted when she falls for the enemy (Lot).

While having some knowledge about The Masquerade storytelling game is useful, it's not really necessary. There are some terms that may be confusing, but a lot of it is self-explanatory, and most people shouldn't have any trouble reading this book. It happens to be one of my all-time favorite vampire novels, and I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in vampire fiction. Pretty much anything published by White Wolf is worth checking out as well.

As One Dead is the best
Being a White wolf buff and a vampire fanatic, As One Dead was true to it all. I found the book interesting, non-linear, and a real eye catcher. If you love vampire books then you'll love this one. it has everything you could possibly want from a vampire book.

As One Dead
I hold no allusions that vampire novels in many and most cases are pretty much brain candy. but this book was not only entertaining but containg aslo a complex political subplot that interwove with the tribal activities of the sabbat and the self indugent attitudes of the camirilla towards the masquerade. this vamp book is an intriging love story as well that ranks up there with the Sonja Blue stories.

Intense!
I loved this book, though sometimes there was a lot of history to get through. Still, it was important to understand the vampire character, so I read it all. And you don't need to know the rest of her books. I didn't and still it worked great. Now I'm going to find some more Kilpatrick vampire stuff.

Gripping Vampire tale of Love, Lust and Revenge
These vampires really sizzle!

Award winning author Nancy Kilpatrick's fourth novel in the vampire series Power of the Blood packs a wicked punch. Sex, violence and power tear the protagonists apart as they struggle for survival in a world where even the undead can die. The story twists and turns and doesn't let go. Lots of passion here! If you like your vampires sexy and theatrical, you'll love this book!

Different views
Fragile Path is a book intended towards an audience that wants to see through the classic "Heylel was the bad guy who delivered the First Cabal to the Order of Reason". Divided in 5 parts, each one written by a different survivor of the Fall of the First Cabal, and each one representing it's corresponding style, the book does a great job explaining the different views (caused by the fact of different people belonging to different Traditions and beliefs). Although not a systems tool, which could disappoint some gamers, it's a great addition to anyone's Mage collection.

A great book....it's simply amazing.
I actually don`t own this book, but my storyteller does and I borrowed it from him. The story is great, the plot is magnificent. I couldn`t believe what an amazing book this was, so I wanted a copy for me. This is one of the best books available if you really want to know what happened back then. I think this book is a must for Mage storytellers, either Mage:TSC or Mage:TA because it helps you with a different point of view.

Some good, some bad
I saw this book on the bargain rack and the summary about the old gods so I picked it up. Like any collection, some are good, some didn't hold my interest. Here are some of the good ones.

Diana of the Hundred Breasts- I liked this one. The narrator is on an archeological site with his genius brother, Charlie. Charlie and the narrator unleash the Goddess Diana.

The Face of Sekt- My favorite. It is the story of the goddess Sekt who has to wear a mask to conceal her face. She gets a request to go to the King to heal his son. His son was made ill by a magican, who was really a djinn. It's interesting to hear the story from an actaal goddess.

The Goddess Danced- I LOVe this one. Meena is from a Hindu family and her mother, who died during the birth of her younger sister Abha, never neglected the Brahmin rites. Some boys torutre Meena by throwing acid on her face so she has to marry this blind man. The family is mean to her and forces her to beg. I won't give away the ending but the moral is that every woman has a goddess inside of her and should not be mistreated.

Heart of Stone- A magician's house is sacked and he is killed. There is a "woman" in a stone that is left behind- she is some kind of spirt. She is trapped in there and is forced to lip read fortunes for another untruthful man, who wants money.

The Eleventh City- A story in the form of a letter. The narrator s in the little town of San Marcos del Lago and he talked to a man who had an interesting story. There was a pig who couldn't die so it brought bad luck where ever it went.

Cora- About a man named Edward Brown who had a manticore named Cora. His Great Aunt Irene took his inheritance and gave it to a man he never knew named Herbert. They become friends, more than freinds and then Herbert decides to leave him. Lets just say a manitcore can't stand the betrayal of the one it loves most.

Shaped Stones- About a boy Teru and his younger siblings, Baisil and Lexa. He gives up his heart and becomes a tool of a man to ensure his safety.

Wanderlust- You know the Hawaiian hula girl in the car? Well what happens if she doesn't want to part with you?

giottas Window- A man, Thomas Ashen, realizes he has a beak and other people have trunks or beaks but no one believes him. He is taken to an asylum by Jane but and she realizes that she sees them too.

Any who want to receive a collection strong in characterization and diverse in dark fantasy setting will find this an excellent leisure choice.

MY THOUGHTS OF "CHILD OF THE NIGHT"
THIS WAS A WONDERFUL READ!! IT WAS EXCITING, EROTIC AND EXTREMELY FASCINATING. NOT YOUR TYPICAL "VAMPIRE" STORY.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANDRE AND CAROL WAS A LOVE/HATE SORT OF THING, THAT COULD HAVE GONE EITHER WAY. MS. KILPATRCIK EXCELLED WITH NATURE OF A UNION BETWEEN A MORTAL AND VAMPIRE. VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING~

I AM SO GLAD THAT I READ THIS NOVEL!!

Couldn't put it down!
I liked this book because the story was engaging and plus I liked Mrs. Kilpatrick's other book, Near Death. I liked the fact that the plot got right to the point and did not waste time describing things that were not central to the story.

A disappointing collection.
Judging by some of the authors who contributed tales to this anthology, you'd expect something of very high caliber. Sadly, most of the stories are fairly run-of-the-mill, and I barely remember them just a few days after finishing the book. Even Caitlin Kiernan's beautifully written short is a bit predictable. It's nice to have Harlan Ellison's vicious "Bleeding Stones" back in print, but otherwise this is one theme anthology that is more or less missable.

average
A few of the stories were very good, and a few weren't very good at all, but most were just average. The average stories were just too predictable. Usually they ended with someone turning into a gargoyle, or there was a gargoyle protector killing people, things like that. I was really excited about finding this anthology, because I recognized a lot of authors I liked in it: Neil Gaiman, Katherine Kurtz, Jane Yolen, Jo Clayton, Charles de Lint. Unfortunately, most of the stories weren't nearly as good or as original as I had thought they'd be. I enjoyed Charles de Lint's "May This Be Your Last Sorrow" the most, but the rest was really just so-so.

A great book!
In the Shadow of the Gargoyle was a really good book, all the stories were really cool, and some of them even sad. My favorite was Scylla and Charybdis. It is really cool, though some of the stories, especially the second one, are kind of weird and nasty. But without those it's a really great book and I think everyone should read it!
