A great selection for grammatical instruction
The French Now! Level 1 book is a great book to have for grammatical instruction. There are short stories at the beginning of each chapter with each one having a bit of an ironic twist. It helps you to understand those difficult issues like reflexive verbs and passé composé and even the partitive article. 4 stars you ask? Well, like most language acquisition, it is always good to be in a classroom with lots of motivated people just like yourself.
Great for learning on your own!
I'm homeschooled, so there is no one really to teach me but the book. I tried SEVERAL different French book and tape combinations, but this is the only one that has worked! I don't even need to listen to the tapes, I can understand French just from the books dialogue and speak it just hte same. Highly recommended for a beginner, and those learning on their own.
Excellent Book to Learn French!
This workbook is a very good book for a beginner. It teaches you French grammar very well. There are dialogues at the beggining of every chapter that has new vocabulary words for you to learn. This workbook was set up very well and teaches you all the basics of grammar and vocabulary, and a little beyond. I think you should buy this book if you really want to learn good French.

Really helped my French pronunciation!
At first I was sceptical, but my doubts fell away after I started working through this book and tape combination. This is a very systematic and logical guide to French pronunciation that approaches it from the angle of French spelling rather than of the sounds (e.g., how to pronounce 'euil' in various words.) My spouse (whose French is excellent) commented right away that my accent was much improved! The only minor criticism I have (and the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that the book doesn't use the International Phonetic Alphabet symbols; I would recommend to anyone using it that he or she find a way to match up the sounds with the corresponding IPA symbols. This will help when trying to figure out the pronunciation of new words shown in a dictionary. Other than that, highly recommended!
French Pronounced Perfectly
As with Christopher Kendris's other French language books, Pronounce It Perfectly delivers impeccable grammar and pronunciation techniques. A relative newcomer to french language, I started with Mr. Kendris's French Now! workbook. This book teaches one how to conjugate verbs and formulate sentence structures. Pronounce It Perfectly then continues with another workbook and 2 cassettes which makes the task of learning French with the correct pronunciation flow very smoothly. Then continue on with his 501 French Verbs: Fully Conjugated......Arranged. You can't go wrong with Mr. Kendris's line of books, and definetely do not try to speak without first listening to the cassettes. They will make you more comfortable and understandable in the long run.

A Great Way to Learn Spanish Grammer
This is a good book, as all are by Mr. Kendris. It has everything you need to know about grammer in Spanish. The only reason I gave it four stars was because some of his explanations are hard to understand and seem to not make sense. For example, when explaining the direct object pronouns, he said that "lo" is generally used instead of "le" to mean "you" in Latin American countries, but before that he failed to even mention that you use "le" to mean "you" in Spain! Otherwise, it is great if you are serious about learning Spanish.
Great for quick reference!
I have been looking all over the internet and in bookstores to find a Spanish grammar book that was just simply GRAMMAR... no exercises or cultural tips. This book is small, but it has all the points that I get confused about in AP Spanish. It also has a section in the back that covers idioms, and it even has synonyms of common Spanish verbs! I'm thinking about getting to Grammar Card and the Spanish Verb book to use with this book.

You'd better know your grammar
This book is heavy on self-testing, including reading comprehension and writing, a nice feature that many Spanish books don't have. It also has special sections on idioms, synonyms and antonyms, and definitions of basic grammatical terms. That's the good part. To make sense of the grammar section, the student had better have an excellent handle on grammar and grammatical terms. This is an excerpt from the "Position of Double Object Pronouns: A Summary" section. "With a verb in a simple tense or in a compound tense in the interrogative: The indirect object pronoun remains in front of the direct object and both remain in front of the verb form. The subject (whether a noun or a pronoun) is placed after the verb form." Then, ONE example is given. If the learner can handle this type of instruction, the book is great. For people who are a little light on grammar, Dorothy D Richmond is a better choice.
Great resource - one I will continue to use!
The contents are structured well, and offer useful tips on remembering Spanish. The tests at the end as well as the synonyms/antonyms vocabulary list are a terrific bonus. I would recommend this book for any beginner or someone hoping to refresh their Spanish.

Good.
This book prepared me for the regents in no time. It is clear and straight forward, but it could be more concise at some junctures. Barron's has yet another winner.

Life-long Spanish student
I have used Barron's Educational Series' materials ever since junior high and up through graduate school teaching undergraduate Spanish. Spanish Now!: Level 2 is a good supplementary text. I have written a review to Barron's of 11-pages' length wherein I have detailed some grammar mistakes and other points to be improved. Let it be said that almost every textbook or dictionary is necessarily a work in progress. With that said, Barron's/Kendris commit horrible errors when it comes to the constituency of the Spanish alphabet post-1994 reforms. The alphabet consisted of 29 letters before the reform, and 29 letters after the reform. There are other minor accent mark and spelling errors in the work and I hope Barron's will improve the next edition/printing when it comes out. This is still a worthwhile book for intermediate students of Spanish.
Straightforward
Spanish Now! presents its information in straight no-nonsense way that I like. The lessons are clear and easy to understand.
Each lesson begins with a reading passage showing the use of the vocabulary words presented. The grammatical lessons that follow are clear. The author doesn't "hide" the information in the text somewhere; it is presented up-front.
Some people may find the format boring. It is a little dry, but it makes Spanish easy to learn because the author doesn't try to "sneak" any information in with clever games. I like the format, myself.
This book is a great way to learn Spanish.
Spanish Now! level 2
I know several students that are using this book for private lessons ,and they found it extremely useful. They can use at home or in class, there is no tricks, the chart table for irregular verbs is great! Also the brief explanation of each issue in alphabetical order at the end of the book ,is an excellent source. The exercises in each Unit enhance the learning process. I strongly recommend this book( level 2) for intermediate students.Congratulations to the author!.Please, publish, Spanish Now! level 3!.
