This book is an exceptionally easy look into the difficult-to-research and security-conscious Israeli Defence Force. This book concentrates on the IDF ground forces including chapters on the IDF order of battle, some IDF background history, the Giva'ati brigade, the paratroopers, the Armored branch, the Golani brigade, the Merkhava tank, the Na'ha'l, Israeli officers, the role of females and older rservists, and an appendix on Israeli armament. While I wouldn't necessarily call it an in-depth study of the IDF, I would say that it is a very comprehensive introduction to the IDF complete with beautiful photographs. Some of the photographs are ones I've not seen elsewhere and I think I've seen most of the phototographs in the Israeli National Archives! It is also one of the few books published about the IDF in 1990 and is fully up-to-date as of 1990 IDF history.
I highly recommend this book for IDF fans, military gamers, military history enthusiasts, or others with some sort of interest in the Israeli military. It's companion volume: Israel's Air Force - The Power Series is also worth getting.

Supporting Israel and the facts is now so politically incorrect that a prominent newspaper website recently deleted a posting stating this important background: In 1922 the League of Nations adopted by international vote a plan to establish a Jewish National Home in Palestine, which then included all of current day Israel and Transjordan. Shortly thereafter, Britain unilaterally and illegally granted more than 80% of that original Palestine to the Arabs, creating current day Jordan. And now, Israel is blamed for the plight of "refugees" that the Arab nations have exploited to the max in their 52-year war against the Jewish state.
Of many important pieces of the historical puzzle, the best is this: In 1919, less than two years after the Balfour Declaration, Emir Faisal of Syria and Iraq--then the only recognized Arab leader in the world--declared the plan "moderate and proper." One result was the 1922 League of Nations vote to adopt the plan.
King Faisal's approval of plans for a National Home for the Jews was no less significant because it encompassed all of current day Israel and all of current day Jordan. In 1919, there were very few Arabs and many Jews in Palestine, and King Faisal saw the importance of recognizing the rights of the Jewish people to their homeland.
Unfortunately, most Arab nations--from which most "Palestinians" actually immigrated--never recognized even the considerably reduced version of the Jewish state and still prefer a permanent state of war rather than admit Jews the right to their state governing places in which tens of thousands of Jews resided even after the Romans sacked the second Temple in 70 A.D. And why should they? Thanks to a largely uninformed press corps, they are winning a propaganda war that has all but wiped out the past, substituting instead a Kafkaesque fantasy.
The publishers should RUSH this book back into print! Alyssa A. Lappen

First I want to say that I am an undergraduate biotechnology student. I have a very strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, and immunology; but I have not had any classes dealing with anatomy or physiology since Bio 101 way back when. I have read and am quite comfortable with Alberts Molecular Biology of the Cell and Stryers Biochemistry, and even a handful of primary journal articles, so I do know how to read a textbook.
Now with that out of the way, let me say that this book is completely incomprehensible. It is so full of anatomy and Latin derived words (which it does a poor job at explaining BTW) that I can only assume that it was meant for medical students, and to have physiology an a prerequisite for it, but it doesn't even have an introduction describing the recommended background or whom it is supposed to be for. In fact, most of the book is devoted to the physiology of sensation and movement, not neurobiology. Now if you have the background for it and thats what you are looking for then it is a very thorough text that goes into a lot of depth.
If you are looking to understand the biochemistry or molecular aspects of neurobiology, find another book!
This book tells his story from what little is known of his formative years until his disappearance from the world scene around the early 1990's (It is thought that either the Syrians are hiding him or that he might have died from a heart attack.). Simply put, this man is a monster and it's frightening that people like him exist. He is responsible for the deaths of around 600 to 700 people from a myriad of nations (most of the people were killed from bombing airliners including the 270 people who perished on Pan Am Flight 103 which exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland). He pioneered the use of explosives on planes (using barometric triggers i.e. they sense altitude and pressure). Some of the scariest attacks include taking school children hostage in Israel and killing eleven of them and three of their teachers.
This book is a nonstop thriller recounting Jibril's moves, as they are known and countermoves from various forces trying to stop him. I recommend it to those interested in learning more about terrorism, political movements in the Middle East, counterterrorism methods, or simply a glimpse into the mind of a madman.
