Not in my 13 years of reading antique related reading have I enjoyed a book as much as Judith Katz-Schwartz's Protecting Your Collectible Treasures: Secrets of a Collecting Diva. In addition to smart, inexpensive ways to clean, store, repair and care for all your treasures from paper to metal and glass to lace, the book is loaded with hysterical antedotes that make it a delightful as well as informative read.

I loved this book! I loved Ms. Katz-Schwartz on Personal FX.....it was one of the saddest times when that show went off of the air.

I thought I would put this book on the shelf as a reference, and I will, but when I started leafing through it, I had to read it all......it was a good afternoon's entertainment.

If only all "how to" books were written with Judith's great passion for collectibles mixed with her wonderful sense of humor. Ms. Judith whips up some great recipes from her kitchen to save us time and money! I'm reading this book cover to cover and the next auction I go to I will be ready to buy that not so perfect thing and try a Judith concoction to give it a new life! Thank you for a wonderful read and some great advice!

Walked into the B& N in the Marina and on the Valentine's table was this book. I read it in two sittings. If I had only known these things happen - years ago. Great eye opener and on the mark for Heart Day.

This book is a delightful & touching love story between two seemingly different individuals. Offering a refreshing & humorous glimpse into their relationship, we find ourselves encouraged to strengthen & appreciate our own intimate relationship. I highly recommend it!!

Great Lesson! After reading this book I appreciate, even more, how much work goes into a relationsihip. How important it is to communicate as much as possible. Their exercises that follow each chapter work!

My wife loves this book, and that is why I purchased it I went ahead and bought a used book. I thought that I was going to receive the most updated version, as was shown in the picture, when I submitted my order. To my surprise I received a used version that was published in 1995.

This book is great, especially for first time parents. It has everything you could ever need to know about your baby or child in an easy to follow dictionary format. I have used it several times to look up information.

I live in NM and will move to upstate NY some day. My son and wife have a home in Windham, and I want to explore all the area and, hopefully, sometime meet Ms. Katz.

Have taken watercolor - I like her method of combining it with other media.

Judy Katz has written a stirring fieldbook to some of the most beautiful areas of the Hudson River Valley. As though she were uncovering a lost Arcadia only three hours from Manhattan, Judy takes us by anecote and picture to a series of her favorite nooks and vistas. Judy's words have been compared to Whitman's, evidencing a colloquial simplicity and grace. Her artwork is similarly simple and elegant, with a paucity of embellishment and a clean, representational line. Those who know her work already love this book -- those who do not yet, will.

For all teachers who believe that learning is seamless, this is a book to revel in. Through scripted teacher/student dialogues, it suggests how to facilitate these kinds of sessions, starting with developing the skills enabling students of all ages to write original non-rhyming poetry, to letting words take you to movement, finally to bringing in all the elements of music......form/dynamics/texture/melody etc. It is the only book I've seen which paints on this broad and lovely canvas where words become poetry and poetry becomes extended into...allmost "theater pieces" to be shared by the writer and the whole class. Good stuff. Highly recommended.

What I like most about this book is that it gives so many examples of what different companies are actually doing - how they are being more successful using their diversity. Though much of the book is theoretical, it also includes practical things that you can do in your company to change and improve the way you do business.

To be honest, I am not well-read on the subject of diversity. I have much to learn, and this was just the book for me! What I love about the book is how it helps me (and my clients) imagine what could be done and how to do it. Given the opportunity, I doubt I'd do it exactly as Miller and Katz write about it, but their practical model (coming out of long experience) is a valuable backboard for my own ideas.

This book does not get stuck in an affirmative action box or strategy. It reaches beyond to a larger organizational perspective, serving everyone in the process. This book's ideas create more complete, productive and human organizations; it is not just about neglected or mistreated workers. With its larger scope, it serves everyone.

The real power of the book can be found in the dynamics of its title and subtitle: It's inclusion AND diversity, not OR, not VS. The creative pairing of these two words produces new possibilities--and that's what the authors help you learn about.

The book is readable, built around a central model. The authors do a good job of leading you through their thinking. And, their long experience shows in every chapter.

I really enjoyed the connections that The Inclusion Breakthrough made between the importance of social responsibility and the partnership between businesses to improve the overall quality of life. It was simply written so that every business leader can connect the pieces to form their own socially responsible strategy. It has really give me some great ideas and how to implement them in my organization.

One of my fellow students reviewed this book in my recent Modern Lesbian Literature. Her synopsis was so unusual, I ordered the book the next week and read it over the weekend.

The story is written in an unusual style, with Sofia narrating events to both her lover, Hankus, and the reader. The story of how two young Polish Jews meet in an Argentine brothel is imaginative and holds the readers interest throughout. In a very few parts, the story gets tedious, but it doesn't last long.

The ending was intuitive, but still good.

In conclusion, a really good story and I have recommended it to several friends.

Set in the 1900's, young Jewish Lesbian, Sofia Teitelbaum, is taken from her parents home under false circumstances to a bordello in Argentina.

Eventually she encounters a charismatic magician, Hankus Lubarsky, and realizes Hankus is a woman masquerading as a man.

Interesting plot twists & turns develop as the two young lovers, Sofia & Hankus, outwit the Jewish gangsters who are trying to control and exploit both of them.

The book is written in an interesting style, told mainly in the first person by Sofia, it has her relating the story to Hankus. The author also creates scenes that Sofia could not have witnessed personally, but she does so in a very believable way that causes no abrupt break in the storyline.

I found the book quite interesting, and a bit different from the usual lesbian fiction novels I read.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because some of the plotting seemed a bit too lengthy to me before the results are reached,but over all, this is an excellent book, which I highly recommend

I really enjoyed reading this book. What an interesting trip from Poland to Argentina and all as a woman dressed as a man. In my friendship circle the vote is in and it is "Thumbs Up"!!!

This book tells a lot of great information on how to start a career of marine biology. You learn about how a marine biologist decided to be a marine biologist and if marine biology is the right occupation for you. This book was very helpful since I'm planning on being a marine biologist. It also teaches you about the kingdoms of the sea and their Latin names. In addition to this great book there is a wonderful cd. It tells you all about this marine biologist and her life. Also it shows you pictures of what she sees when she dives . I think the cd is really the big learning help. It is full of facts. This is a great learning opportunity for youngsters. I give this book 4 golden stars!

This book is a good one for a girl, like me, who wants to be a paleontologist. The illustrations are very colorful and it has some pretty good information in it. At the end of the book the author gives some kind of "lesson plans". The author tells you about her own experience as a paleontologist and gives you some ideas on how to decide if this is the right career for you. All in all this is a pretty good book. I think I would recommend it.

Others have said it, and I repeat the sentiments of those who have gone before me. This is a wonderful and engrossing read--the kind of book you could read in a few hours if you were so inclined. The characters and storyline are moving and touch upon many emotions. Katz is particularly good at capturing the different voices of her protagonists. My only complaint is the extended magical realism portion that occurs in the last two-thirds of the book. In such a short novel, I found it distracting and even in a lengthier piece I may have felt like it was forced as well as a distraction from the main story. Regardless, this is a book that upon finishing I immediately turned and handed to my roomate who took it in one big gulp. This is what can happen when families literally drive one another nuts and when political types lose sight of the lives of the people they profess to help. The book is also meditation of loving someone whether or not they are capable of giving back 100 percent.

Uneven at times, but within its covers there is music to be found. It is difficult to write a novel with different perspectives, but Katz pulls it off. Here, the story is told in the first person by the different characters. An emotionally fragile, outcast of a daughter who sets herself on fire, a resentful mother who hasn't made peace with her own parent, and a lesbian sister trapped between two conflicting worlds, struggle to live their lives while caught in each other's webs. There are beautiful moments laced throughout, and images that soar. From the onset we are warned that "Nadine and my mother rubbed against each other and made dangerous sparks", and we are taken along on an unusual ride. Nadine's pain and abandonment are compelling, and coupled with her mental illness, I was left with a sad yearning for her to find peace. "Me, I bay and bay but nobody hears me. . .Do you see me? Nobody puts the fire out, but nobody burns either. Only me." Near the end of the book, the story heads in a direction I didn't really care for, a magical realm of past lives and struggles, but the writing and imagery continued to shine.

Running Fiercely Toward a High Thin Sound by Judith Katz is an examination of the lives of a Jewish family in the late sixties. The story is told from a variety of viewpoints, but centers around the experiences of Nadine and Jane Morningstar, two daughters, who leave their home for the small college town of New Chelm. Both of them happen to be lesbians, and both of them quickly settle into the lesbian subculture of New Chelm's feminist movement. (Actually, it is questionable whether or not New Chelm houses any heterosexual residents, as they play no role in the experience of the women who live there.) Although the story centers around a thrice-marginalized group (e.g., lesbian Jewish women), the themes of alienation, familial dysfunction, coming-of-age, identity formation, drug addiction, and romantic obsession make the story extremely accessible to anyone who did not have a perfect adolescence. Perhaps the crux of Katz's genius lies in her ability to render each character in such an honest, realistic light that one begins to really understand and experience the uncommon struggles of these women. She creates such intimacy between the reader and the characters that the reader finds himself or herself forgetting the cultural, sexual, or religious differences that may exist between them and instead experiencing the events of the story along with the characters. The book's ability to produce this profound understanding, which is needed so desperately, is reason enough to recommend it to a wide readership, but Katz has done much more than producing a book that promotes understanding and empathy. Upon closer examination, one discovers that Running Fiercely Toward a High Thin Sound is not about lesbians, Jews, the mentally ill, or females. It is in fact a penetrating, honest, and entertaining examination of the human condition in modern society. Katz's greatest strength lies in her characterization, specifically in establishing a unique voice for each character, the realistic portrayal thereof, and her ability to advance the plot through the subjective viewpoints of such different viewpoints and voices. Her greatest weakness, perhaps, lies in her usage of clichéd elements, such as Rose's "trip through the mirror." These clichés, though very rare, do mar an otherwise beautiful piece of writing, but the impact of these flaws on the total experience of reading the work is quite minimal.
