Memorized every word!!
You know when a book is good when your daughter knows every word to every poem in this book. She tells me every night can we read "Vespers". It is a poem by A. A. Milne for his son Christopher Robin...aka Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The book is very special to me because it was one of my books when I was growing up and I recommend it to any parent with a young child who loves to dream.

Best book ever
This is my all time favorite book. I remember reading it when I was little and I still have some of the poems memorized. It is the book I want my children, my grandchildren, and every generation there after to read. I love this book. I just recently found it again and I was ecstatic. It is such a happy and heartwarming book. I recomend it to all parents, grand-parents and children of all ages.

My two-and-a-half-year old loves this book!
My son, who is the real reviewer of this book, loves this book that he can recite almost all of them; of course, it helps that he loves trucks! The poems are fun and he loves to pretend he is a truck, too, with the help of this book!

A delightful book of poems about vehicles
This amusing book of poems is a delight to both parent and child. There are high-quality photos of various kinds of modern trucks, each with an accompanying rhyme. The poems are rythmic, humorous, and memorable...in fact, my 2 year-old bursts ito a recital whenever he sees a similar truck on the road!

One of my favorite teaching resources!
This is wonderful book for an American history teacher. This diverse collection of poems is accessible for readers of all levels. I have used the book with 7th and 8th graders, but am sure it would be fine for younger students as well.

The pages reproduce easily and clearly. One side offers students background to that era or individual. The author thoughtfully includes a vocabulary box that defiens words that your average middle school students might not know (ie Victory Garden, Tory, Jalopy). The poems all have attractive illustrations.

The ones that have been successful in my classes are a poem that allows the reader insight into George Washington's thoughts upon his inaugeration. The War of 1812 poem is a shenty in the voice of an impressed sailor. I had my 7th grade class recite it aloud and I feel that it brought a difficult topic to life.

There are alos peoms dealing with Harriet Tubman, Civil Rights, The WWII Homefront, Ellis Island, the New Deal, Farmers' loneliness and the Transcontinental Railroad. I always return to these worksheets again and again.

The new teaching standards encourage students to read documents and these are a great introduction. I have used many of these poems as motivational activities. This is well worth the money anda great addition to American history lesson plans!

Love that Noise.....
"Libraries have signs like these:/QUIET/DON'T TALK/SILENCE PLEASE/By day they're read by me and you./Mostly we do what the signs tell us to./Now imagine the library late at night./The windows are shut and the door's locked tight./But the words in the books are wide awake,/and the noisy words start to itch and ache!/They've been sitting in silence on printed pages,/not making a sound for ages and ages./Suddenly they can't bear the quiet./They burst out of the books in a rackety riot..." Poet Bobbi Katz has written a collection of 28 high spirited, rhyming, "noisy" poems full of rhythm, energy, humor, and motion that just beg to be performed and read aloud. Each verse is filled with wordplay, alliteration, and especially onomatopoeia in colorful, inventive typefaces of all shapes and sizes, that help bring the creative words and descriptive sounds to life. Susan Estelle Kwas' bold and bright cartoon-like illustrations are wonderfully expressive and add to the fun. Together Katz and Kwas have authored both a feast for the ears and the eyes that will send little imaginations soaring. Perfect for youngsters 5 and older, Rumpus Of Rhymes is a delightful, silly and innovative collection the whole family can share and enjoy, and a book that shouldn't be missed.

A helpful resource for our mostly Gentile elementary school
I've read this picture book many times over the years to predominantly Gentile elementary students in our school library to help explain the historical events behind the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah. The quasi-biblical language used in the text makes this book more effective for older students, from about 4th to 6th grades.

Students familiar with the Bible and the Temple in Jerusalem seem to get a bit more out of the narrative, but it's still necessary to stop and explain terms like Sabbath, idols, pigs, and the month of Kislev.

Ori Sherman's bold colorful paintings are obviously not meant to depict a literal representation of the story line, and the students readily accept them as an artistic interpretation.

In our rural, mostly Gentile, environment, this version of the Story of Hanukkah has been a helpful resource.

Don't Do Drugs: A Rap Song (Teenage Nutant Ninga Turtels)
A halarious book that will be enjoyed more by adults then children

Pure Hilarity.
Every page made me burst with laughter at it's very poor attempt to keep kids off drugs. If I may read a passage, "So let's have a pizza with extra cheese. No anchovies, if you please. No crack, no smack, no angel dust- Just the Turtles and you...the kids we trust!" Pure hilarity.

Fun to read, but just doesn't work.
I bought this book because, basically, I'm lazy. I knew it had to be too good to be true, but what if.....I've been faithfully doing the routine for 8 weeks and have gained inches. I quit doing the aerobics I was doing cause Bodyflex is soooo much easier and I kept eating as I had been. Big mistake. My clothes are uncomfortably tight and I get winded more easily. As my common sense told me, this is too easy to be effective. If you're not doing any type of exercise, perhaps this could help. But if you're already exercising and in pretty good shape (like I WAS) this is no substitute for your regular routine. I think the fact that Greer doesn't eat anything after 4pm may have something to do with her success...I'm very sad that this didn't work but at least my husband got some amusement watching me "exercise."

It really does work!
SMErvin888@aol.com I'm glad to see Kathleen's comment about the book, Hurray for her! I have been doing the breathing exercises for about 3 weeks. I can't do much of any other form of exercise right now because I hurt my foot and just going from one room to another is hard enough. I am trying to eat better for my health, but even when I was on a diet, and did aroebics twice a day I never lost so many inches. It would usually would take me 2 months of exercise and diet to lose just an inch.

Already I have lost 1 1/2 inches off my hips and an inch off my thighs. People are even saying to me you look smaller. I didn't think this program was going to work either until I saw these results and I've only lost 6 lbs. but it looks like I have lost so much more. If anyone want to write to me and tell me how they're doing my e-mail address is SMErvin888

You've GOT TO TRY THIS....it really does work!
I've been doing this workout for only 4 days & am already energized, sleeping soundly @ nights(something I haven't done for about 4 months due to stress & everyday life!)! And while I haven't measure myself, my clothes already feel loose & big on me! This is what the average person needs! Besides that, I like it that it only takes me 15 minutes a day. That is another reason I bought this book. I'm 15 yrs old, a highschooler & I have a job. Time is "of the essence" in my house! This is perfect! I can do it in the time it takes for most people to put on their makeup! Another thing this workout has done for me is it's helped clear up my acne! It's true! I am using a natural acne medication(I have very sensitive skin & can't wear makeup or use anything with chemicals in it.), but I was still having problems on my arms. But this workout has helped alot! That, and a sensible diet. So...buy the book!!!!! It really does work!!!! It's all TRUE! Just try it! What do u have to lose by trying it...well, except that flab!

Lots of Lice (Hello Reader! Science-Level 3)
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (1999)
Authors: Bobbi Katz and Steve Bjorkman
Amazon base price: $11.55

Fun way to teach about an embarassing subject
This is a humorous way to let kids know about lice and what to do to prevent or get rid of an infestation. Most 1st or 2nd graders should be able to read this book with little help (there are a few words in it which they might need assistance with) and the illustrations are terrific.

My only complaint is that some of the rhyming text didn't flow smoothly which might be bothersome to young readers.

interesting collection of original poems
We the people is an interesting collection of original poems, all written by author Bobbi Katz. What makes this volume unique is the perspective of the poems: each poem is told from the point of view of a historical figure. Not all of the figures are famous, but they do represent the time in which they lived. The poems begin with "The First Americans," and spans time, ending with a poem describing the dawn of the new millenium and its possible impact on the nation's youth. The poems will allow the reader to hear the voices of many individuals, including Mary Stahler, a pioneer woman in 1874 Kansas, and Harriet Tubman, who in 1861 reflects on her work with the Underground Railroad. The poems are accentuated by a timeline and stunning pictures created by illustrator Nina Crews. The illustrations combine actual photographs with a variety of media, such as watercolors and digital images.

Although We the people is a worthwhile volume of poetry, it does not have broad YA appeal. A YA with an interest in history of poetry would enjoy this book. Otherwise, the book will be supremely useful to students, from middle school through high school, because it will work in a variety of curricular settings and in the public library. The poems are well suited for performance and can used as supplemental information in history and biography assignments.

This book will make your little ones paranoid.
This book repeatedly emphasizes that germs are mean and that they are everywhere and that their sole purpose is to GET YOU. Very scary, actually. It puts them in your body, in your food, in the air and the miminally addressed topic of keeping yourself clean does not banish them. The next page just puts them all back somewhere else. It is not clear at all that handwashing, not letting other people sneeze on you, washing the floor, not leaving food overnight on the counter are effective ways to keep healthier. The emphasis is on a ton of very cute cartoony germs in multitudes. The health aspects are implied only--and poorly at that. Behaviors like nose-picking are RIDICULED. Not good for kids up to about age 10, especially if you're trying to teach health and cleanliness issues.

Fun and informative
My daughter and I love this book. At 5 years old, she easily understood what this book was trying to tell her. She's 8 now and we still read it. We even use some of the terminology to remind each other to stay healthy. She'll say "Mama, you're being a 'meal skipper'". It is NOT a scary book and it is a fun way to talk about germs with your kids.

This book is wonderfully funny in its rhymes and pictures.
This book not only presents a serious topic in a very humorous and creative fashion, it contains some of the absolutely best germ cartoons I have ever seen. My first grader really enjoys it and I can't stop showing it off at work. I am an Infection Control RN specialist and find that it is perfect to communicate to healthcare workers the need to always wash their hands! I am getting copies for the hospital where I work. It is a super book!
