A Great Book For Anyone!
When Rachel's parents die in a fire, she is sent to live in the mountains with her family. She struggles to fit in, she meets old Granny Sharp. Granny Sharp teaches her medicine and doctoring skills to help the mountain folk. With the Civil War flaring, her grandfather makes his farm take no side. Not North. Not South. The reason for his action is that part of the their family is fighting for the North and part for the South. Rachel is working on the farm tending to wounded soldiers from both sides when a young military captain by the name of Ben is found hurt outside the farmhouse. Rachel cares for him and they soon fall in love. Rachel can't marry him because she has important duties at home, and it's a mountain tradition to follow the man to his home after marriage. She can't go to Pennsylvania with him because everyone tells her she is needed where she is as a doctor. I am upset that the publisher stop printing this book. I do not have a copy but got it out from a local library. Although I would like to buy a paper back because it is much cheaper I would also buy it in hardcover if that was the only format. If you enjoyed this book, you will also like Time Enough for Drums which will be out in paper back in May.
great book for young girls
Like some other people in these reviews I first read this book because it had my name in it. It turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read and am only sorry that it is out of print becauses I do not have a copy. I would recomend this book to anyone looking for romance, adventure, drama, and excitement.
This book is good at any age.
I bought this book back in the second grade at the school bookfair simply because it had my name in the title. About a year ago I found it and read it. I loved it. Its got family life, friends, healing, and it strongly emphasizes the importance of love in a young girl's life. Though I am 15 and bought the book when I was 7, I still think its a wonderful story. I even read it for inspiration. I've read it numerous times, and its still an adventure every time.

Well written but.....
This book was very good and I really enjoyed it, but it just took FOREVER to get to the climax of the story. Lou Kassem still did a very good job of the background history. I would recommend this book only to people who like reading about american history.
Wonderful, a really really good book!!! :)
The Innkeeper's Daughter was a really really good book to say the least- well, I think. I loved it as much as the Rosie and Raider trilogy, if not more. It was so romantic- that's what I like about historical adventure/romance books...it was simply bliss! I liked it very much and wouldn't it be cool if you could be in Byroney's place? I would recommend this book to all of my friends. I think all of the American Dream's Series books I've read so far were really really good!
Great book!
Byronney works in her father's inn/tavern along the Wilderness Road during the American Revolution. Byronney hears many secrets at the inn and one secret she hears could mean life or death to the frontier patriots planning to attack the British. Byronney races against time to save her family, friends, and the young man she loves. This was a very good book.

Great book for Middle School first years.
Have you ever had Middle School Blues? If you have than I have a great book for you. Lou Kassem produced a book, Middle School Blues.Cindy Cunningham is in middle school for the first year and is really not sure about the middle school life. She goes to a funeral and does something really weird. Want to know what it is? Read the book to find out. Cindy looks all over but can not find a single book on middle school life. So she believes that she can write one herself. There is a contest for young writers. To find out if she won, read the book. Take your time reading this book. If you read this book in one night you will miss alot. If you like Middle School Blues, try reading, Dance of Death. Lou Kassem's new book.
I cannot wait to re-read this book!
I'm 22 now, but when I went into middle school, this book was my very favorite. It really helped me through the tough times...it made me feel good to think that I wasn't the only one who felt the way I did about things...obviously the author knew and communicated it through her character. I now work in a children's library and I have asked my supervisor to buy the book for the stacks. I think every 10-12 year old girl would love to read it!
It's Contagious
I think that Middle School Blues is a very good book that prepares us for the future. The main character is Cindy, who was very scared to go into "Middle School". She studies at a school called Ruffner High. I liked this story because I can really relate to her experiences. Just like her,I have teachers that hassle me just the way they hassled her. I know how she feels about her friends, and how she feels lost and sometimes without friends to turn to. I would definitely rate this book five stars!

Williamsburg doesn't just attract tourists!
A Haunting in Williamsburg was a decent book, though some information in the story doesn't make any sense when it is put together. It's about a girl who is in the shadows and has a secret she is keeping and is sent to her aunt's house who lives in Williamsburg. She meets people and starts to blossom but then she meets an old family ghost who has a deadly secret herself and asks the girl to help her settle her spirit and live in peace. If you want a surprise turning in a book than you should read this book.
THe PAST BLURS INTO THE PRESENT
Twelve-year-old Jayne Custis must spend the summer with an aunt in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. She arrives with a lot of emotional baggage which weighs on her conscience--the issue is moral cowardice. Allowed much freedom of movement and given delicious meals by the devoted Black housekeeper, Jayne delves into the city's historic past while trying to forget her own, uncertain future.
She gradually becomes aware of a ghostly presence trying to contact her--that of a young woman (her own ancestor, in fact) who begs her help to redress a 200-year-old wrong. Jayne learns about her family history and dedicates herself to solving the mystery and clearning the name of an ancestor. She meets a friendly boy who helps her, but there is very real danger in the cemetery, from an embittered ghost who does not want the truth to be revealed. Can a young girl clear the family name of the tainted, shameful charge of Treason and set the tender heart of the lady ghost finally at peace? This book is a light read and will introduce elementary students to a very special city/tourist attraction and Colonial times.
A Real Page-Turner from Beginning to End...GREAT!!
On a recent family vacation to Williamsburg, my 9-year-old daughter was looking for fiction works with a Williamsburg backdrop to enhance her trip. This was one we came across. I was skeptical at first because of the ghost theme, so I started reading it. I only intended to read enough to discern if it was appropriate for her, but I could not put it down and ended up reading the entire book. The ghost story is great and in the telling provides some interesting American history information. It was fun to read about places we had visited and things we had seen from both the modern-day and Colonial perspective. In this book, some good values are taught without the reader even being aware of it. I highly recommend it whether you have a keen interest in Williamsburg or not...a great read!! And...my daughter loved it too! Some other great books set in Williamsburg for elementary-age girls are the Felicity books from the American Girls Collection.

Okay...
I thought the book was good for a person in their early teens. It's very easy reading, and it has a plot that a lot of people can relate to: being the odd one out. It's about a girl who was very popular. Then, a lot of rumors flew around about her, and she tried her best to handle them. Eventually she realized she was making a bigger deal out of it than it actually was. The ending is a happy one because she finds the guy of her dreams. So... I'd recommend this book for any early teenager.
Odd One Out rules!
Allasion completely blew me away. i mean when she found out shewas being used by Nic just for some stupid bet she .. .was very upset.. THe only problem with this is that everyone at school is ingnoring her because they say she was the reason Nic had to leave. As she goes into despair her teacher, Dr. Dorn, wakes up to the real world. When her lab partner Tony comes into the scene everything changes. I won't tell you the end even though it is wonderful.
