I bought my first copy of Mrs. Chiang's Szechuan Cookbook when it first appeared in the bookstores, and I wore it out! Mind you, I try to take excellent care of my books, and this book was well-bound, but kitchen use has stained many, many pages and broken the binding.
Buy either this book, or Szechuan Home Cooking. It's the same book. One is a later edition than the other, with the only difference being the introductory material.
This is my favorite Chinese cookbook ever, and I have given it as gifts to several friends who have enjoyed my cooking (due to this book) so much.

I bought this book 20 years ago, and many Chinese cookbooks later, am here to advise you that this is the best Chinese cookbook ever! When I started cooking from this book, I stopped eating out at Chinese restaurants because the food I could produce at home was so much better. Cooking techniques are described in exacting detail. You simply cannot go wrong if you make a reasonable effort to follow the recipes.

Mrs. Chiang tells a brief story from her childhood on a Szechwan farm about each one of the recipes, recounting how her mother prepared it. Without exception, single dish I have tried from this book has been excellent. Includes well-written "how to" info on many techniques.

This is a biography of Carl Jung (1875-1961), but so much more than that. It traces his life and professional development, drawing on letters and extensive quotes from the Collected Works. It is profusely illustrated, not only with photographs of Jung and the relevant people and places in his life, but also with his drawings. After Jung's break with Freud in the early 1910's, Jung went through a about a decade of professional isolation and rich personal growth. During that time, he kept a journal called the "Red Book", which he decorated with drawing and paintings based on his dreams and active imagination. Many striking images from the Red Book are reproduced in this volume: a drawing of Philemon, Jung's inner spiritual guide; the viscerally disquieting "Meeting with the Shadow"; and a singularly captivating image, "The Light at the Heart of Darkness". Photos of Jung in his travels and at his house in Bollingen round out this engaging visual tour of Jung's contribution. This is a wonderful introduction to Jung's life and work, especially for someone of an artistic inclination.

A very fine collection...with plenty of glimpses at Jung's trans-analytic speculations and personal reactions. Soulful and, in places, very funny too.

I bought Mrs. Chiang's Szechuan Cookbook when it first came out. It immediately became and remains my favorite Chinese cookbook. In fact, I have used it so much that I have worn it out! I take good care of my books, but years of kitchen use have put numerous stains on the pages and have broken the binding, never mind the total destruction of the dust cover! I have given this book as gifts to several friends who have enjoyed my Chinese meals (based on this book), and they are using it too.
You can also get Szechuan Home Cooking. It is just a later edition of the same book, and the only changes are in the introductory material.
Do yourself a favor and get this fabulous book before it disappears forever.
By the way, I finally replaced my worn-out copy, but have kept the old one stored sentimentally alongside--it's full of notes, like "excellent recipe", "Marc [husband] raves", "fabulous and easy."

We've been cooking Chinese food one to five times per week for 25 years, and most of it according to Mrs. Chaing. The first copy fell apart from use. I will miss the easy opening to favorite dishes and the memorabe stains, but enough is enough. We have about 30 Chinese cookbooks and use all of them from time to time but Mrs. Chaing's cookbook has staying power, helpful hints, reliable recipies, and a wide range of cooking styles.

My book places emphasis on evaluation of major issues and scientific studies. Most books on this topic focus on personal accounts, case histories, or counseling and treatment approaches.

This text is absolutely the most readible and comprehensive review of the world of behavioral science research on addiction. It is as broad and complete as any recent NIDA, NIAAA or Institute of Medicine summaries.

The sections on special populations and gender studies cannot be found easily in other places, as well as, the bibliographic references are extremely well chosen and thorough for those needing to find the seminal references.

In short, this is truly a one of a kind textbook suitable of upper division courses, a postgraduate seminar or research or program design. If you are looking for clinician's manual, this is not for you. If you are looking for a carefully selected review of research literature without unnecessary jibberish...use this text.

This book is THE complete guide to building an intranet. Killer examples and techniques.

Very impressive compendium of Intranet information and the latest HTML techniques

This is one of the first books I've read about UFOs. This book contains a summary of all the major UFO theories. It contains information by Zacharia Sitchin(12th Planet), Robert Temple(Sirius Mystery), Frank Stranges(Val Thor), and many others. In all it's a basic overview of the sunject of UFOlogy-Ancient Astronaut Theory, Abduction, Sightings, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, etc. A must read!!!

For a very solid piece of research, the book is a surprisingly easy read and gripping. Beneath the text, the author subtly raises important social questions for our times. Reflected through the personal histories and theories of Freud, Jung, and Spielrein, Kerr reveals both what was novel and liberating in psychoanalysis (the centrality of sexuality) and what was constricting to the three of them (the practical need to be preoccupied with themselves and their various careers). In this, he raises a very contemporary issue: though love remains desired by all, it is deeply problematical in the face of our culture's particular need for self-preservation.

This book was a really interesting and thought provoking first contact with the Jungian concepts of projection, anima and animus and the roles (positive and negative) they play in intimate, heterosexual relationships.

It was a really wonderful read with lots of good and easy explanations (theoretical and practical) of the concepts and it's manifestations. And a wonderful outline of a positive and workable approach to dealing with projections and what their purpose is (in a nutshell, first to break through the barrier that exists between to people and secondly and more often than not just a way of your unconscious to tell you what you have to work on with yourself {if you have strong bigger-than-life-women projections --> get in touch with your inner female/emotions. If you have bigger-than-life-men projections --> get in touch with your inner man/creativity/strive; if you have are heavily attracted to artistic partners it might be that your own artistic potential needs to be worked out).

On the more negative side:
It seemed to treat the male/anima side of the whole equation a lot more indepth than the female/animus part. And there is hardly anything about people who don't match their own gender archetype much or to be more concrete match their opposite gender archetype more than their own. Which might be a result of it being a bit dated by now and it's shortness of only 120 pages.

I as well enjoyed the treatment of at the time rather current discussions about if men and women both have anima and animus. Or if their occurence is gendered.

All in all an excellent introduction though!

Whenever friends plan to get married and we begin to think of gifts this book comes to mind. We were encouraged to read this when in couples counseling in the early months of our marriage 12 years ago. What a help it was for us. I realize that it would be good to read it again everytime someone we know begins those steps toward marriage.

Because of dreams and thoughts that would come to me , I stayed away from developing male friendships because I did not know that I had an unmet need for an emotional attachment with a man.I confused this emotional need with sexual desire so I kept my distance from all men. Not having an emotional attachment with my father left part of me unsatisfied and seeking that attachment. This book helped me see that my yearning was not for sex but for a closeness that was denied me as a boy.

The new book, Teach Yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98 In A Week , is one of those unusual texts which captures your attention from the start. It doesn't matter whether you're using FrontPage 98 for the first time or you've been using it since it was released as a beta. It is a comprehensive text, covering everything from active components like applets, and suggestions to make your webpages interesting, to the manner in which images may be manipulated with Image Composer 1.5. Mr. Karlins' pages have tables and illustrations that walk you through the process of starting, animating, uploading and maintaining web pages, in plain English, not drowning in techno-speak. He has successfully reached a balance between the needs of both the webpage beginner and expert. Pages contain ample explanatory text, presented in such a fashion as to delight the novice and fully inform the most experienced webmaster. In short, if anyone is interested in creating webpages in FP 98, this is the best written, and most complete book I have found. I highly recommend it.

When I look for a computer book it is important to me that I feel as if the author is next to me helping me through each task. That is how David Karlins writes in all his books and FP 98 in week is no different. It is clear, helpful,reinforcing after each chapter and as a bonus David provides a great section on using Image Composer something that MS dosen't even include in its manuel that comes with the program. I highly recommend it for the beginner or Pro.

David Karlin's "Teach yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98" is terrific. I purchased the book on a Thursday afternoon and by Saturday I published my site on the Internet. I do not know HTML and I didn't know FrontPage 98 but with Mr. Karlin's well organized and detailed explanations I was able to learn it quickly.

Mr. Karlin's book covers everything you need to know to produce terrific websites, from themes, to frames to working with forms and integrating MS Office with FrontPage 98, it is all there in "Teach yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98."

I am especially appreciative of the chapters that cover the image composer, how to create interesting graphics and text effects to jazz up my website.

This book works both as a tutorial and a reference and I know I'll be referring to it frequently as I continue to play with website design.
