This book, The Juniper Game is a great book for anyone who is into mysterious magic and medieval insides. It is an interesting book that at first, will seem confusing and strange, but you will soon fit the "pieces of the puzzle" together. As you read The Juniper Game, you will understand the concept, and you will feel like you are right there with the characters with the extreme details. The story starts with a 'confusing' introduction, and then starts with the present time, in the book. Juniper, a beautiful "out of the ordinary" girl is into medieval history, and objects that include castles, knights, and peasants. She is also into experiments to prove herself points. One of the experiments that she wants to do is a telepathic image exchange with her mother, but her mother is far to busy to do anything with her like that now. So, Juniper is silently searching for an artistic person to do the experiment with. At school, she meets the nerd-like Dylan and finds out that he is quite the artist! She is overjoyed beyond repair. So they start the experiment. At first, it seems like it wont work, but then this look up for it. Juniper is traveling back in time and through telepathic image exchanges, she is having Dylan draw pictures showing evidence of where she's been so that she can keep them for her medieval collection, but as she witnesses a first hand account of a past medieval witch happening, through different day sessions, she sees to much. What she sees happening to the people is scary, and the telepathic images are screwing-up Dylan's thought. After they have perfected the image exchange, Dylan can "feel" everything happening with Juniper, including things that are going wrong. Then, as they progress even more, things at Dylan's home don't go very well, and Juniper's life goes down a bit after a bad car accident with her boyfriend. (She isn't hurt, but the accident helps her to pursue the experiment even more, which is bad.) This is definitely a must have for people who enjoy mysteriously magical, adventurous, and exciting books. To find out what happens to Juniper, Dylan, and everyone around them, read The Juniper Game. It's a great book! :)

The first Sherryl Jordan book I read was Winter of Fire, that will probably always be my favorite. Neverthess, The Juniper Game is not just a good book, it's a great book. It so thought provoking, can people really do all that mind-travelling stuff?? It is also very amusing, my favorite part is where Dylan is drunk from the Hippocras and Juniper runs out to the balcony and starts the Romeo and Juliet stuff. Very funny. If you're a fan of Sherryl Jordan's, this is a must read, and even if you're not, you must read this book!! I also recomend The Winter of Fire

I was so shocked to discover that this book is out of print. It is one of the best books I've ever read, right up there with Donna Jo Napoli's and Philip Pullman's stuff. The plot looks really weird, but once you're into it, you won't be able to put it down, read it, read it, read it!! See if it's in the library--that's probably easier than an out-of-print order. A Time Of Darkness (by the same author) is also EXCELLENT. Other out of print books I highly recommend are The Silver Crown and A Pack Of Lies: 12 stories in one.

When I choose to read this book I thought it was going to be boring, because the cover seemed so dull to me. Then has I started reading, I couldn't stop! The book was so touching and sad, which made me even more attched to it. Also I loved how the Sherryl Jordan used her words by being very discriptive.

I've also read one other book of Sherryl Jordan. That book I also judged by the cover. However it turned out to be good. Now if I ever pick up another book by Sherryl Jordan I'll be sure not to judge it by its cover again. Since I found her writting to be very well in both books.

I loved this book a great deal! I got it from a school jamboree for free, and I didn't think that it would be all that wonderful, but I was drawn to it. When I read the first page, it was impossible to put it down. It took me only two days to read the whole thing. I would recommend (and have) this book to anyone who enjoys an adventure. I especially love it's twists and turns! Thank you Sherryl Jordan for such a wonderful tale!

I remember reading this book for a 8th grade book report and then mourning the fact that I couldn't keep it. It's such a beautifully written novel and despite the fact that it has been years since I read it and I have forgotten much the mood has been remembered well...that of simple pleasures and lost happiness...a time that is not so dark as it first seems. The ending for me was bittersweet and I remember crying and wishing there were a sequel!

I loved this book! It is exciting, but at the same time a story of personal conflict of a girl,Elsha who is chosen to be the handmaiden to the all powerful firelord who uses his extraordinary powers to divine for coal for the people to use. The Quelled people mine the coal and are shunned by the Chosen people, who think they are superior. Elsha has strange dreams finds that she has the firelord's power as well. In a triumphant ending,she uncovers ancient secrets which reveal her peoples mysterious past.

This is just the best book I have ever read. Elsha, one of the Quelled, a slave race, is telling the story. A wonderful heroine, she has the power to heal, divine (search for firestones), and speak out. When Laken showed her an ancient scroll near the finish of the book, it gives Elsha the last little push she needs to make her dreams for her Quelled race, and the world possible. Elsha acomplished more than she ever dreamed of, with the help of her few Quelled, and Chosen friends. This is a superb book, and anyone who likes books envoling slavery, injustice, prejudice, bravery, with touches of romance, should read Winter of Fire, no matter what!

It has been many years since Tanith, the woman of the wolves, has lived with the wolves' clan. Struggling in Ahearn's clan to find her position after Nolwynn, her best human friend, dies, Ahearn, the chieftain, remarries, and his new wife lies cruelly about her, Tanith's only wish is to return to the wolves where she has a sense of belonging. Tanith is forced to make a painful decision between living with the humans and living with the wolves. Tanith is an unusual story set in ancient times combining the feelings of love,hate, betrayal, and the animal kingdom.

This book is just that, with a little bit of everything. Set in a prehistoric setting in first person, the reader can really connect with every one of Tanith's (the main character) thoughts. Tanith lived with wolves as a small child before the tribe of Ahear came to kill the wolves and return her to human society, treating her as nothing more than a slave. Soon she begins to long to return to the wolves, who treated her more kindly than any human ever did. But a young man from a neighboring tribe inevitably falls in love with her and offers her a home with his less savage clan. Tanith is left to chose between the worlds of wolves and humans. It's actually something like Julie of the Wolves, but far more detailed in plot and character, and worthy of a wider range of audiences. I've read it at least ten times over since the age of nine, and I'm still not tired of it. I'd reccommend this to anyone, whether they are friends of wolves or not.

Wolf Woman is an exciting story I read. It was about a girl called Wolf-Woman by the clan.Tanith is meant to be part of a family but is treated like an outsider. Then this man, Gibran, has come to say he loves Tanith.

''We chose each other, the wolves and I,though our first meeting is so far back in my life that it is lost in the shades of memory.''

This is the most exciting part!I think all teenagers should read this book if they like a good book about not fitting with people in with but fitting in well with animals.

Where, do I begin?? Well, I will start out by saying that this is one of THE BEST books I have ever read in my life. It is very cool in most parts, but really prtty sad in the end.Whenever I thought about, I cried and this lasted a few days!! What's more is that I am pretty solid when it comes to tears, and I'm a 14 year old boy!! Anyway, I won't write much about what happens it the story, exept that it is about a young child to young man healer named Gabriel who is extremely talented. He is accused wrongly of treason, and fleas to stay with a tribe called the Shinali. He eventually must make a HUGE sacrifice, and the book is just very wonderful. I know my review makes it sound really stupid, and it does start out kind of slow, but once you finish it, you will realize that it was definetly all worth it. But don't take my word for it, just read the bok yourself, and find out how GREAT it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not my fav Sherryl Jordan book (that will forever be The Juniper Game), but Secret Sacrament runs a very close second. The ending made me cry, and for days afterward I'd be picking the book up and reading random passages again, it was that good. I read the UK version, published by Simon and Schuster in 2003, (it has the most amazing cover) and apparently this is a changed version of the original published in 1996. Anyway, Sherryl wrote an preface to this version saying that "the scene in this book of Myron's death, what he and Gabriel experienced in the Valley of the Shadow, is taken almost word for word from my diary (after her mother died)." Interesting stuff.

I have to admit that when I started to read this book, I was a bit skeptical. The plot didn't seem to be that well distinguished from other fantasy books that I read.

Gabriel goes against his relative's wishes when he decides to become a healer, though he still has the love of his brother and mother. He is very promising as a healer and is accepted into the Citadel, where he will be taught. The Empress becomes in debt to him, and all seems to be going well, except that her advisor, an evil person, has power over her and hates Gabriel because he thinks that his job is being stolen by him. (That whole powerful advisor thing reminded me of Aladdin.)

When Jaganath (that's the guy's name) finally turns over Gabriel's life, he starts another with the Shinali people and tries to bring about a prophecy that both cultures yearn for.

Those some of this was cliche, it will leave you staring at the last page, wanting to start over again.

"The Raging Quiet" by Sheryll Jordan, was one of the most excellent books I've ever read. Strong characters, a great story line, a good setting - they all add up to a wonderful story that can be read again and again.

Marnie is forced to marry a lord, in order to help her peasant family, and she leaves her home for the fishing village of Torcurra. She is not happy living with her drunken husband, who claims that the "cursed", broken down cottage where they live is very valuable. But then, suddenly, he dies in an accident, and Marnie is left to fend for herself.

Seeking friendship in a kind priest, she meets a "mad" boy, who cries and raves, thus called Raver. Soon she learns that "Raven" is not mad, only deaf! Marnie begins teaching him hand signs, and forms a bond with him, but then the villagers brand her a witch, and test her with the iron bar.

This book was wonderful, and I'd recommend it for ages 12 and up. I'd also recommend "Breaking Rank", by Randall, which is another story of prejudice.

This book is WONDERFUL. I've read several books about the salem witch trials, and this far surpasses them all. Marnie is a fully believable, warm-hearted and strong character, which is a hard thing to find. In so many books it seems the protagonist is too perfect, too stupid, or too unbelievable, Marnie is none of these. Another character I feel I must mention is father Brannan. In all other which-trial books I have read, the priests have been the villains. In this book, the father is a kind, spirited, and often funny man. Some of the descriptions of him, and his dialogue actually made me laugh aloud. Raven is an extremely one-of-a-kind character. He cant hear, cant talk, doesn't always understand things, and has an awful temper, but one can fully understand Marnie's love for him. The story line is well-planned, and captivating. From tragedy to comedy to romance, this is a book I would recommend to anyone 12+.

She develops a form of sign language to communicate with her new friend, who is deaf, much to the surprise of Father Brannan, the priest of Torcurra. Father Brannan tries to defend and protect Marnie after the villagers witness her silent communication with Raven and subsequently accuse her of practicing witchcraft. The author weaves a story of servitude, ignorance, tragedy, horror, faith, and love in this book. The Raging Quiet proves to be an 'I could not put it down until I finished' book for students in middle school and higher grades. This story integrates the studies of geography, history, and social relationships that both teachers and parents could use for children.

It is about a young boy called Denzel who lives in the ancient times and has a master who is a wizard. The wizard leaves Denzel,and Denzel looks up the magic spells,and creates a spell that takes him into the future and he then mets a family who take care of him and help him get back home

It's about a boy called Denzil. His master Valvasor went away and an old lady named Mother Wyse warned Denzil to be aware of Spy Wednesday, A big town and a dragon.Denzil thinks it's Valvasor and tries to warn him. Instead he meases up the spell and ends up in a completely different place

As the story opens, our heroes, Jude and Lizzie (aka Jing-wei) are nerving themselves to take on a fire-breathing monster. How they got into (and out of) this predicament makes for an engaging adventure tale. The conceit that the illiterate peasant lad Jude is relating his story to a kindly monk for posterity ratchets the suspense down a notch (we know he will survive the story's hair-raising episodes), but Jordan keeps the page turning as we wonder how he will manage this, as well as creating a mysterious and sympathetic character in Jude's companion, Jing-wei, who he rescues from a horrid life as a freak exhibit in a traveling fair. The gentle teasing by which Jude ends each chapter on a cliff-hanger ("I don't want to make you late for prayers, brother!") is amusing and serves to draw the reader into the surprisingly authentic medieval world. Although I enjoyed the well-realized setting, fast moving plot and touches of humour, I found that the tender relationship between the two friends gave the book its heart. Once again, Jordan has crafted a winner.
