Very informative
Finally someone comes along and writes the true story of Pocahontas. My children thought that Pocahontas was just a thing of Disney's imagination until I bought this book. They learned all about the real John Smith and the true feelings of the early couple. A great book.

A Kids Movie But an Interesting Adult Book
An amazing story about an Indian who's land is being invaded by Englishmen. A life story with good detail and ''never heard of parts''. If you saw the movie and enjoyed it then you would love the book even though the book is different from the movie you would still like it. I think even if you did'nt enjoy the movie I still think you would like the book. Once you start you never stop. It plays a movie while you move more and more deeper into the book. A little romance mixed with alot of adventure and detail. You find out what really did happen. The end is a big suprise. Read it you'll enjoy it.

"not a distinguished work"
As a feminist I found this book troubling. Ms Johnson's humor is unimpressive, and her narrative will prove offensive to most women who believe that males are making women's writing somehow secondary and unimportant. It is very frustrating indeed.

entertaining if very light weight
I can understand why this book is not particularly popular; it is certainly not the first book one should read of Johnson. But it does have its moments, and could reasonably compare to humorous genre fiction and light romance. But if you can get into it, it's not so bad, and I for one was not offended by it.

funny (if you have a sense of humor)
I'm halfway through this book. It's hilarious. Very
vivid. I've never read anything quite like it. The
fact that grumpy idealogues are denouncing it here is
a sign of how wickedly funny it is. (Grumpy idealogues
are oblivious to funny, but they have a good nose for
wickedness.)

Real People-Real Projects (Hometime Series)
I'd rate this book in the middle of the scale simply because it didn't really give me what I wanted (but may be fine for others). I'm already well versed in do-it-yourself projects so I don't need baby stepping through basic electrical, drywall etc. What I was really looking for was tangible information on both the interior design aspects of a basement (lighting consideration, codes etc) and specific basement construction techniques. By the latter, I mean actually making the walls and waterproofing (I don't have a basement right now and I need to replace the existing foundation). This book assumed you already had a basement and that you were simply building it out (and don't know construction).

I was also looking for lots of pictures of other people's basements for ideas. The book was wanting in that area. If you are searching for the same information as I, then the 'Better Homes and Garden Book' is probably a better choice. If you are new to construction, already have a basement and know what you want to do, then this book is OK.

A Difficult Textbook
I thought that this book had difficult wording and was more a college-level book rather than a high school-level book. However, it covers a wide range of civilizations and concentrates on a fundamental theme to compare different times, places, and societies: the interaction of human beings and the environment. Emphasis is placed on technological development and how technology underlies all human activity. It also caught my interest because it included a unique phonetic guide to unfamiliar words.

Clever, funny academic comedy.
Highly enjoyable tale of an English pseudo-academic spending a year as a guest lecturer at a small American college. Though at first he remains aloof from the academic infighting, as he spends more time at the college its concerns become more and more important. Lots of fun.

get another book
Very disorganized. It talks about the same thing over and over in different sections. Then it misses other topics all together. It does not talk about cutting inside corners in shower stalls, using a rubber mallet, and a variety of other ciritcal steps.

Choose another book
I purchased this book and used it while tiling a kitchen floor. The whole concept of leveling the tile seems to have been completely missed in this book. The tool section doesn't mention or show a rubber mallet to bang them down. The book doesn't mention using a level or a 2x4 to even the floor. Nothing. I would choose one of the other books which people have reviewed well.
