Our family is a big fan of these Eyewitness books and this is an excellent overview of all types of mummies.
As a warning however, there are quite a few gruesome photographs which might scare kids younger than 6 or 7 so a parent might want to check it out in a bookstore before buying sight unseen.

The Mummy Eyewitness book was the first one I ever received. It is excellent at conveying information because it has many interesting bits of information next to beautiful pictures.

In this study Freud delves into the studies of psycho-analysis and prepares a prognosis that stipulate his observations. He confesses that this series of lecture are not the entire studies of psycho-analysis but provide just a glimpse into the subject.

In the Study of Hysteria: hysterical patients have been noted to suffer from prior reminiscences. Their symptoms are residues and mnemonic symbols of particular traumatic experiences. Not only do the patient remember the painful experiences of the remote past; but they still cling to them emotionally; they cannot free themselves of the past and for its sake they neglect what is real and immediate. The fixation of this mental life to pathogenic traumas is one of the most significant and practically important characteristics of neurosis. Typically in the pathogenic situations; the patient is emotionally overwhelmed and is obliged to suppress a powerful instead of allowing its discharge in the appropriate signs of emotions, words or actions. One is driven to assume that the illness occurred; because the affects generated in the pathogenic situations had their normal outlet blocked and the essence of the illness lay in the fact that these `strangulated' affects were then put to an abnormal use. In short they remained a permanent burden upon the patient's mental life and a source of constant excitation for it.

Freud disagrees with Pierre Janet's thesis that hysterical patients; are inherently incapable of holding together the municipality of mental process into a unity; arises the tendency of mental dissociation. Janet in his experiments showed that in hypnosis the lapses of the supposed lost memories could be brought back. On the contrary Freud suggests that forgotten memories were not lost. They were in the patient's possession and were ready to emerge in association to what was still known by him; but there was some force that prevented them from becoming conscious and compelled them to remain unconscious. The force that was maintaining this the pathological condition became apparent in the form of resistance on the part of the patient.

What Freud has found out about pathogenic complexes and repressed wishful impulses of neurotic traces back the symptoms of the patients' illness with really surprising regularity to impression from their erotic life. Even before puberty extremely energetic repression's of certain instincts have been effected under the influence of education, and mental forces such as shame, disgust and morality have been setup, which like watchmen, maintain these repressions. So that when at puberty the high tide of sexual demands is reached, it is met by these mental reactive or resistant structures like dam, and make it impossible for it to reactivate the instincts that have undergone repression.

These lectures to a lay audience are a good starting point for understanding Freud's thought--very readable, informative, and at times humorous.

This resource is perfect for the small group where prior preparation is not likely. Each lesson occupies two facing pages. The text (NAS) is included and printed in a mechanical layout emphasizing certain words and phrases. Each lesson is the same with sections for observation, interpretation, correlation, and application. What a shame it is out of print.

I have several of these "Do It yourself" studies by Irving Jensen. They are all worth buying, They are out of print, but if they are ever in print again or you see them for resale / auction--buy it!

This is a great book for anyone interested in Jet Engine history. The book's opening sections are excellent. The coverage of Whittle's and the early British work are very complete. The transition of this technology to GE (USA) and GE's developments are also very well covered. The early German work is also well covered. There is some detail on Westinghouse's independent very successful turbine developments up to the J34; but then no real information on the causes of the failures of the J40 and J46, which knocked Westinghouse out of the aircraft turbine business. The Turbofan, which combined the smoothness and speed of the Turbojet with far superior fuel consumption, lower specific weight and noise levels has dominated commercial air transport for 40 years. Yet, the original development of this technology only rates a small sub-section in the chapter on Pratt&Whitney's work. In general, the unevenness of the detail detracts from this book. But overall, there is a very high level of well-researched information. For anyone interested in Jet Engines this book is a 'must read'.

A think that is an interesting historical review, in the preface the autors saids, that is an all american (only north american) centered point of view, and he offers us an anecdotical history of gas turbine engine development spanning some 50 years of scientific and technological discovery, and insight into the personalities who shaped this powerful invention from its technological beginnings in England and Germany to the modern IHPTET programs.

By other hand he dedicates this book to Sir Frank Whittle and Dr Hans von Ohain and all the great pioneers of this technology, this is great memorial.

This is an unusual story--exciting. The characters are well drawn from the 1970's with plenty of action, some violence, some romance. The main character, Sam Lockhart, fights the exploding drug trade--not always in the most orthodox manner. A good read.

I found this jewel on the referral of a friend and thoroughly enjoyed the "edge of your seat" war on drugs theme and the interesting characters. Reminiscent of Don Johnson, J.C. Samson Lockhart is as interesting and colorful a hero as I've read about in a long time. If you have time to pick it up...just make sure you have time to finish it because you won't be able to put it down!

This is the best book on athletic injuries I've used. It's old, but the sound advice hasn't been improved upon. I had a chronic hamstring injury when I got the book (back in '86) and for the first time in years I was able to rehab it completely and compete pain free. I've since referred to it for advice on knees and shoulders. Most recently I had an early stress fracture only a few weeks before an important competition. Following Garrick's guidlines, I was able to recover completely before the event. Garrick understands an athlete's need to stay active and take positive action to recover from an injury and tells you exactly how to do this. He also realizes that an injury that is "cured" by rest and cessation of the activity most often returns when the activity is resumed unless active rehab has been performed.
Highly recommended. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five is it's brevity. I wish he would write a much longer and more detailed reference.

Great analysis of cause and practical approach to cure. Especially good with joint issues. Thanks Dr. Garrick, your efforts have limited my pain and time in recovery! You should be everyone's first responder to sports injury...another edition??

If you buy this book, definately get an illistrated edition! The fairy images are gorgeous and worth treasuring. The story itself is beautiful: How Peter fell out of his tram, was taught by the birds to fly and finally returned home to find the window locked to him.

This book is very imaginative and well written. James Barrie tells the history side of Peter Pan that most people do not know about. Each chapter tells a different story about Peter Pan's life in the garden. There are stories about Peter Pan living in the trees with the birds, to stories about how the fairies trick the humans who come to visit Kensington Gardens. This book is both funny and sad at parts, and will make you wonder if you were actually owned by a bird at sometime!

This book is yet another beautifully photographed book of drinks that can loosely be defined as smoothies.

None of these drinks are difficult to make, and the several I've done have been delicious.

However, the buyer should be aware that a great proportion (perhaps the majority) use either liquor, such as rum, or liqueurs. I'd be inclined to classify this book as a bar reference rather than a food book. Again, the ones I've made have tasted great as mixed drinks. Just don't plan to use these recipes as meal replacers!

Most of the ingredients are available in urban areas. The expense per drink is more comparable, again, to mixed alcoholic drinks than the meal replacer type of smoothie.

This can be an excellent reference for someone wanting to go beyond daquiris and pina coladas into more exotic bar drinks. Buy as a bar reference, not for your children!

For several weeks I searched for the perfect blender drink book for my fiancee and his new blender. He is not really the home appliance type, but figured a blender would be the perfect machine for summer gatherings. I was hoping to suprise him on his birthday, but much to my dismay, I was having no luck finding just the right book with simple yet tasty recipies. Then I came across "Smoothies and Other Blended Drinks" (Ryland, Peters and Small Little Gift Books). This book is absolutely terrific for those of us that want to the point recipies for all ages. Not only does it give you recipies but also little tips on how to use your blender. I recommend this book for anyone who owns a blender, as it will make creating tasty treats an efficient, fun task!

This book is essential for the library of every scholar of American constitutionalism. For those who have studied the subject, the superb selection of essays on different aspects of American political thought is enlightening. Those who are simply interested in America's founding may however be at a loss and overwhelmed by the wide range of arguments put forward in the different essays even if Gary L.Gregg did an excellent job in the introduction giving an overview to the reader of what he should expect in each essay. Thus, since all and even the American constituiton and its origins is a matter of perspective, this book can only be enjoyed after a thorough study of American political thought. For constitution freaks however it is not only useful to have, it is a real joy to browse through the essays.

There is a palpable fear that America has lost its way, and perhaps even been untrue to itself. Examples of this loss abound, from school violence to a youth culture nihilism. "Vital Remnants," a collection of essays by some of America's top scholars in history, philosophy, political science, and law, shows, with remarkable clarity, the ways in which contemporary American society has radically altered the course upon which it was originally set. To be sure, our century looks at America with a different set of assumptions than that of our ancestors. "Vital Remnants" gives us clues by which we might stay the course for the benefit of generations to come.

This review is for all three books of the series. If you are going to read this first book, be prepared to simply read all three in succession because the pace and suspense dictate it.

The basic premise and storyline of the book series centers on the depictions of the end times prophesied in the Book of Revelation found in the Bible. Unlike other works on the subject, like the popular "Left Behind" series, this story focuses on the events from the perspective of someone who is unaware and even hostile towards the idea that the events unfolding are part of the Biblical story.

The story begins with a surprising twist: dermal skin cells are found at the heel of the Shroud of Turin, and subsequently used to clone the person whom the shroud originally covered. This sets off a chain of events that come at you at a dizzying pace. Unlike the "Left Behind" books, the depictions are graphic and disturbing, and the vast destruction caused by asteroids hitting the earth, and various plagues are depicted with a stark horror. The "new age" references are woven into the story in a way that seems quite similar to how that movement is already forming. It is difficult to tell throughout the story, across all three books, what the philosophical and theological views of the author are, so well written is the perspective of the main character. We are taken along on the journey with him, with little insight into the eventual conclusions. Also excellent are the political workings behind the world government run by the U.N. The rise to power of the political structure is seemless and realistic.

The writing is fine, and the story and characters are explored with enough depth to resonate. Essentially this book is about the story of one person who is thrust into the center of the events simply by being "in the right place at the right time". I recommend the book series for a very different perspective of a familiar story.

If you're like me, you've read the Left Behind books with considerable pleasure. And, most importantly, you've been LEFT WANTING MORE. Well, I'm here to tell you that MORE is here, right now, with In His Image, book 1 of The Christ Clone Trilogy.

Say you're at your favorite restaurant and you order your favorite starter dish--escargot, smoked salmon, beluga caviar, it doesn't matter. You're savoring the delicate, delicious flavors, BUT NOW YOU'RE READY FOR THE MAIN COURSE. What if that was all the food you got? Wouldn't you be disappointed? I know I would. That's what it's been like for us who're Left Behind fans. As we've gone through the series, we've encountered an endless string of appetizers--good, as far as they go--but not really totally satisfying.

Listen. Your problems are over. If you're at all like me, you'll DEVOUR In His Image--probably at one or two sittings. And the great thing is, books 2 and 3 just keep getting better and better. And you'll get up from your easy chair COMPLETELY SATISFIED. At least that's how I see it.

DO NOT EVEN START THIS BOOK WITHOUT HAVING ALL THREE BOOKS IN THE TRILOGY! I don't have much discipline when it comes to dropping everything to read a book, but this story absolutely had my attention from the moment I read the back cover. Analyzing the Shroud of Turin? Cloning cells from the Shroud? Christopher, the cloned Jesus? Alien race? 4 billions years ago?

Bravo for Mr. BeauSeigneur! It's hard to believe this is his maiden voyage beyond writing technical manuals and speeches. This book has it all. Suspense, graphic imagery, complex and interesting characters, twists and turns in the plot, political rivalries, and warring religious factions; all easily read and a scholarly approach to boot. His impressive research and exhaustive study on a wide variety of topics illustrates his extraordinary grasp on complex subjects, from astrophysics to the Bible.

Although I am not a Christian, and certainly no Biblicist, I am familiar with the premise of the Book of Revelation and with "end times" stories. It was refreshing to read a book of this kind without the whining, groveling, and incessant praying endemic in many such works. I highly recommend investing the time for a great read.
