I learned about this book from a review in the "Lands End" catalogue, of all places, and was thrilled by the quality and depth of the prints. I thereupon decided that I had to have the book. However, I was really disappointed. In my opinion, the prints reproduced in the book do not come anywhere close to the quality of the prints in the Lands End catalogue. The prints in the book look washed out and blurred, whereas Lands End prints were sharp, with plenty of detail.

Why is Amazon selling this book at full price

If there was not one line of prose in this book, the photographs would be more than worth the price of the book. We have grown up with images from the movies and television. These photographs portray the real American Indian. I found myself with a lense studying the detail of the clothing, beads and headdresses and eventually transported by the expresses. What were these people thinking as they poised? Are we the readers the ones that are really caught in time?

For most people the term gainsharing is used as generically as aspirin. And, in fact most companies only prescribe aspirin--a quick fix to cure employee headaches--when attempting to set up an effective incentive plan.

Not only did I enjoy Mr. Jackson's book, I can also relate first hand to the insights of his wisdom. I was a part of implementing two gainsharing plans during my career in human resources.

Bill, as we know him relates that employees need to understand in a simple way what is expected of them. The formula used by Jackson's gainsharing team is based upon the "value-added" to what is sold out the door in relation to the people cost, less raw materials.

In other words it is the ratio of what people cost compared to what people do.

Through first hand-experience Mr. Jackson relates again and again how this "value-added" approach not only improves productivity but allows for the rewards to be shared with employees.

In 1927, the 900th anniversary of the birth of William I, a plaque was unveiled at Falaise which listed the names of 406 men supposed to have been companions of the Conqueror. Several more books and numerous articles have been published for and against any such list, but -- infighting aside -- this is still a good source for brief sketches of a large number of Norman and Breton nobles and adventurers. Ignore Crispin's arguments and conclusions, if you like, and use the heavily-footnoted sketches as a biographical dictionary of the long-term Norman conquest.
