Very Helpful; A Must-Read Book for Potential Engineers
This book is very informative. Irwin walks the reader through the steps of becoming an engineer from junior high school course recommendations to professional engineering issues. He summarizes the major engineering disciplines and briefly outlines specialty areas. Students at all stages of study can benefit from this book. He discusses issues for the college student, such as study habits and professional honor societies. High school students considering an engineering major in college need to read this book. Irwin gives examples of day-to-day engineering jobs in each discipline. He also explains accreditation and discusses post-graduate training. He also deals with financial aid questions and other pertinent information. Even junior high school students should read this book. Irwin outlines recommended high school courses, which can help the junior high reader plan his educational strategy. I am a high school senior, planning on majoring in mechanical engineering in the fall. I have benefitted greatly from reading this book. Irwin has clarified several vague issues, and has given me a realistic view of my chosen major. To me, that alone is indispensible.

Clarity At Last: "Reimagining" the New Age
David Spangler and William Irwin Thompson "reimagine" the New-Age in this clear, sometimes shocking discussion. Based around the forums of two major New-Age conventions in 1988 and 1989, their visons and interpretations of countless aspects of what is commonly referred to as the "New Age" are the kind of candid, honest appeal to humanity that is so rare in this oftentimes overly-metaphysical genre. While the numinous aspects of reality are not spared (they fully discuss astral projection, channelling, and the like of modern "crystal worshippers"), what is refreshing is the humor and human-ness which accompany their insight. Being a reader who was raised with the concepts of past-life regression and karma as a moral and spiritual guidepost, I have often struggled with the paradoxical nature of the new-age movement. Seeming inacessible, lofty, and pretentious, this emotionally indulgent attempt at enlightmennt sent me searching Christianity for answers. Needless to say, I arrived at the discovery that both crystals and Christ can be limiting. Thus, my finding Spangler's and Thompson's exegesis on their comprehensive experience as both founders and dissentors of the new-age movement was fortunate; their ideas will engender a synthesis of thought both full of enlightenment and common sense - a combination rare in the often-megalomaniacal realm of spirituality and religion.

Microeconomics (The Irwin Series in Economics)
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (1993)
Author: David C. Colander
Amazon base price: $42.95
Used price: $1.68

its great
i also have another few books of this write and this writer is simply great to present us his ideas

MAH-velous!
David Colander's Microeconomics is possibly the best introductory book to Microeconomics. He provides practical examples, as well as allows his own personal quirks and the like to show through, thus avoiding the monotony of traditional textbooks. Also contains color illustrations to help in the understanding (and the illustrations ARE helpful!).

Excellent intro to microeconomics
This is a great text for an intro to Microeconomics (I used this book when I was student). It was written clearly by stating the points that the author hopes you learn, followed by the reading and then exercises and problems to make sure the student understood the concepts from the chapter. The many graphs in this book make the concepts easy to understand and the fact that most of the graphs are in color helps out alot.

great book for starters in economic theory ,esp for students
It's a great book for first year business students and all those who want to learn something about basic principles of macroeconomics and the influence it has on everyday business activities

A great introduction to macroeconomic theory
In comparison with other macroeconomic texts around it should get 5 stars. It starts with a historical perspective of the crisis in economics at the time of Keynes, setting the picture for why anyone bothered to invent macroeconomics in the first place. It then rapidly proceeds to introduce the major schools of macroeconomics and to develop the relevant ideas and models. It is an ideal introduction for the interested or serious student and manages to be exciting as well as fairly comprehensive. If you're taking an introductory macroeconomics course, get this book instead of your text. If you're coming from outside the economics profession and have a mind of your own, this ones for you.

Great Book - Samuelson and Nordhaus Are Awesome
This is a classic Macro text used for many Intro to Macro-Econ.

I used a similiar text (many editions before) when I took my first econ class in college over 10 yrs ago.

This is a great book, easy to understand and fluid reading.

Thumbs Up!!!

The Arabian Nightmare
Published in Paperback by Dedalus Pr (1990)
Authors: Robert Irwin and David Roberts
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Arabian Nightmare
I was drawn to this book by its literary style, but ended up put off by its distanced diction and its lack of character development. Though exotic sensuality is promised, little is really there on the page, and there's almost no action. Nor could I care about the characters, because they were little more than ciphers. I gave up, bored, about halfway through.

Incantatory, alluring
This book, in such a relatively compact space, unfolds and unfolds itself, into stories within stories within stories. The cast of characters is continually shuffled around in a landscape that is equal parts real and unreal. (Cairo itself IS a major character in the story.) The results are very entertaining, albeit very dark. The Father of Cats, in particular, is a particularly chilling villian. I read this book for a week, and each night I would read it in bed, before I fell asleep. Although I never had any nightmares from reading the book--the experience of my own drowsiness when reading the book reminded me of the central issues in the book. It teeters between the waking world and the dream world, and the book succeeds brilliantly when the two are indistinguishable.

Curiouser and curiouser
Quite probably one of the best books I have ever read and a doomed to be forgotten masterpiece of the twentieth century. The Arabian Nightmare is a dark narrative of a hallucinagenic fouteenth century Cairo. Talking apes, magicians, Caliphs and mysterious underworld figures drift in and out of the interlocking tales within tales. This is, as its title suggests, the Arabian Nights gone wrong; it is imposssible to know what is happening or even who is who at any moment. Comparable only to perhaps Gustav Meyrink or The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, this book is impossible to put down and will give you dangerous dreams for many a night. Absolutely superb.

Great reference in Personal Finance
To make the long story short, when I started to work as a CSR in a bank, I kept this book as a reference on my desk. Before that I tried to ask the branch manager - he didn't have a clue. In the end, I put it in bank's "Better Practices Manual" binder and used it it explain products to the customers.

Very interesting
I used this book for an online course that I took from BYU. It was very informative and interesting.

Great college text: Clear, concise and relevent
If you're interested in Consumer Behavior, grab this book. The writers of Consumer Behavior seem to have the student of all ages in mind. For both undergraduate to MBA programs, I felt the content (from case studies to psychological buyer behavior), lives up to its name.

The premise of the book: how understanding buyer behavior influences overall strategy.

If you're looking for a self-tutorial in Consumer Behavior, this is it.
