FUN!
Our third grade class loved this book! We even made some of the recipes from it and had a great time with some of the "secret" and "mystery" ingredients!

Inspirational!
This is a biography of Lenny Bernstein, in the genre of non-fiction. From when he was a little child, he loved music. The book tells you about him growing up as a music teacher, a piano player, a composer and a conductor of symphony orchestras.

I enjoyed reading about Lenny because there were a lot of things that were hard for him in his life and that he overcame. For example, school - he never had time to do his homework because he took music classes after school. His father hated music because the only music players he knew played at bar mitzvahs and birthday parties, and they only got paid with their meal. They were very, very poor, and he wanted better for his son. But Lenny played music and took classes against his father's wishes. He got through all the problems and grew up to be what he wanted to be.

Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend if you like music. Even if you don't like music, but you are really passionate about something and want to do it all the time, I recommend you read this because it shows that if you love something and you don't stop trying to get it right, you can do the thing that you love all your life.

I learned that a conductor leads an orchestra and a composer writes the music. I'd like to read the books that Leonard wrote and listen to some of his music. Reviewed by Stuart

A Llama in the Library
This book is about a 5th grader, Adam, and his feelings for a new girl that moves into town. It's also about Adam's idea to get his moms llamas to the towns library remodel celebration. The focus seemed to much on Adams feelings for a girl and not enough about the llamas in the title. I felt that it's not appropriate for kids in the 4th grade and under, but to young for older kids. The title will attract kids to read it, but once I read the book I felt it was deceiving. It contains black and white illustrations, and would be 5th grade level reading.

A terrific book!
Hi. I am a third grader from the U.S.A. I like this book because it's sort of like a mystery book. Aldo is looking for Peabody. You should read this book and find out where Peabody is. Peabody is a fat cat. I would give this book five stars because it is the best book of my life and I like Johanna Hurwitz books.

A superb book especially for kids of Rabbis and the like
Questions of character abound in this book. How does a child come to appreciate doing that which is right? How does a child make sense of the board/rabbi relationship? Why do things happen the way they do? Why do the righteous suffer?

This book does not have a Disney-type ending and pre-reading by parents will help children deal with a religious or professional leader who has to move his family from community to community or with the death of a parent.

School's Out
This book was about a family that needed a babysitter for a whole summer. Lucas, one of the older brothers, didn't want a babysitter. He wanted to be able to do what he wanted with no people around to boss him around. When the babysitter got here from France, Lucas knew he wasn't going to like her. After a few days Lucas was tired of having somone around all the time. He played bad tricks and blamed them on Genevieve (the babysitter)to get her fired. Then Lucas finds out that all Geniveve is doing is helping his mom. Do you think Lucas will end up getting along with her?
I loved reading this book because Ilike the way the author set up the story and how they had a babysitter come over the summer vacation. Also, I enjoyed the different events going on while Genevieve is babysitting over the summer. I recommend to students in at least fourth grade because younger children might not understand the book.

Great one for baseball Kids
Baseball Fever is an interesting book that could enhance a child's vocabulary as well as improvise his or her interests in Baseball. It is about a typical family in which the father despises Baseball at first and pushes his son into learning chess, which in his opinion is a good mental gameworth spending time on. But later in the end, the father Dr.Feldman and his son named Ezra learn to compromise by understanding that everyone specializes in some subject. It was a pretty interesting book and also short enough to capture a child's mind.

Baseball Fever
This a a great book to read because it is about a boy who is completely opposite of his father. They are always getting into fights. Then they make a bet and it changes everything.

Baseball Fever
I first read this book a few years ago, having graduated from Matt Christopher greats such as Catcher with a Glass Arm and Shortstop from Tokyo. This book trumps the banal, Christopheresque cadre to introduce a more highbrow milieu into the baseball scene. Aces Monroe for this one. It's the best baseball book ever. EVER!

A Shameful Book!
The authors and publishers should be ashamed. Helen Kellers's life was NOT simply filled with "silence and darkness", as the authors write. She was a fighter for women's rights, including the right to vote. She denounced the murder of coal miners by John D. Rockefeller. She helped found the American Civil Liberties Union. She worked tirelessly for peace. She lived a long, full NOISY 88 years.

This book reduces her to a permanent teenager, and an image on a postage stamp. This book misinforms young people, and gives them a ridiculous idea of what Helen Keller was really all about.

Excellent Book!
I first read this book to my daughter when she was 5 years old, and she has been fascinated with Helen Keller ever since. We have read and reread this book numerous times, and she never loses interest. This led to buying other Helen Keller books and an interest in learning sign language. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a young child. It's a great book for getting a child interested in true stories/biographies!

Excellent book on communications
I used this book with my second grade children in a unit on communications. They were fascinated by the story and learned a lot of new vocabulary words. The book's content was such that my children were able to try to imagine what it would be like to be deaf, blind, or both. The book was also a springboard for discussion on courage, perseverance, determination, and achieving goals, as it gave concrete examples of these abstract concepts. We also used the book to learn a little geography as we traced the path of Helen's travels on a map. It includes a picture of the Braille alphabet, which we used to write and "decode" messages, an exercise the kids loved! Contrary to the opinion of another reviewer, we really liked the artwork and the content. Obviously, I recommend this book.
