Let's Join In
A very simple book, told from a young childs perspective about hiding, giving, chatting and bouncing. The words are to difficult for emerging readers, but younger chindren will enjoy being read to. Two children and two parents, one set in a loving home. Very good book, with color illustrations, that will be of interest to students in K and 1st grade.

Moving Molly
Moving Molly is a wonderful book for preschool aged children. Molly and her family are moving from the city to the country. Vividly illustrated and well written, this story is entertaining for adults as well.

Molly's brother, sister and parents are eager to move; yet they all recognize the memories they made at their former home. Molly gets to see all aspects of the move, from the bare walls her family leaves behind to the different schools her siblings attend. This book is about new beginnings and is comforting to children who are on the verge of making a fresh start.

Of all her books, THIS is the one she always wants!
My 1-1/2 old granddaughter has many books - and she is often to be seen looking at books by herself, not to speak of the times she requests an adult to sit with her. This is the book that she most often wants and is the book we'll have to replace as it's the most worn. A great collection of "nursery" poetry and pictures have a lot of appeal for the young.

a must read
As always, Shirley Hughes has a winner with her book, Stories by Firelight. The stories are fascinating, with just a bit of eerieness and fantasy to keep children interested, just like a tale told by firelight. Burning the Tree is a delightful tale about a grandfather and a grandson who has an uncomfortable secret which has quite an exhilorating resolution for the boy. As with many of her books, there are lovely poems interspersed which just add to the joy of reading a Shirley Hughes book.

Stories for Eight-Year-Olds--Enchanting
This is a wonderful collection of classic stories -- ranging from Pegasus to Ali Baba and the 40 thieves to the Oriental tale: the Crocodile and the Monkey. My daughter, eight, was thoroughly enchanted and even my son, 11, enjoyed reading the book. Stories for Eight-Year-Olds will indeed charm and fascinate both your eight-year old as well as any younger or older readers in the family, too. I look forward to buying the next volume edited by Sara and Stephen Corrin, Stories for Nine-Year-Olds.

Well written, age appropriate stories!
I thought my four year old daughter would be much too advanced for this book, but found it to be very age appropriate, well written, and entertaining for both me and my daughter (even after reading it sixteen times!). Well done. A birthday is coming; I will progress to the next book in the set.

What a great little book!
A simple story of a girl and her grandfather and what they saw & did on the way to the park. Hughes' illustrations, as usual, are wonderful. My daughter just loves the interaction of the girl and her grandad. A great little treasure!

Enjoyable, but politically incorrect.
This book is very reminiscent of my English childhood and will amuse adults and children alike. Similar ilk to Milly-Molly-Mandy. Be warned, however, there is much use of the word 'bad' in relation to children rather than children's behaviour, some parents may object to this. My 5-year-old found the naughty little sister's antics quite hilarious and greatly enjoyed the short, lively chapters and lovely illustrations. I would recommend this book for little children who would appreciate the English references.

Love It!
When I was little my parents would read me this book and it was halarious to me at the age of 4. This book will amuse any child and even parents. Best of all they are true stories. I give it 10 stars !

Very nice!
The words is easy to understand, and the story is very good. I love it

An Enticing yet Un-magical Book
I really enjoy Ms. Nesbit's written works. It is quite a shame that she can't write anymore. Although I liked this one a lot, I was a little disappointed by it because it lacked the charming fairy tale sort of feel that many of her children's books have. However, the story was quite wonderful, and I particularly loved the realistic scene of the children that the reader is given. I highly recommend this book to Edith Nesbit's fans, as well as people that enjoy a touch of mystery, mixed with a child's view of life.

What happened toJames
I remember in The Railway Children that Bobbie, Peter and Phylls had a dog named James. I was wondering, what ever happened to James? In the book Phyllis is the best person to me because she is accident prone. In the story the kids lives change a lot from the city to the country. They make new friends on the railway. It was a great book. I still wonder..."What happened to James...."

The Railway Children is the best book
It is a story about three children who change a little town in England. The book is very adventurous in every chapter. It is a very well writen book.
