I never would have found a secret getaway without this book!
My husband and I spent a wonderful two days in July 2000 staying in "The Cabin." at the Guest House Cottages on Whidbey Island. We found this romantic spot in this book. There are so many wonderful places in this book, so I will tell you about the place we stayed to give you an idea of the quality of the listings presented in this great resource.

We stayed in the cutest log cabin you have ever seen, pictures at my site. A complimentary continental breakfast was set up for us on arrival. We loved having our own kitchen and a grocery store nearby so we could pick up needed supplies for a picnic at the beach. There was a beautiful pool where you could lay out in the sun. In the winter you would be sipping hot chocolate by one of the beautiful fireplaces in your cabin. The cabins were off the road in the woods and have queen or king-size featherbeds. The floors, walls and ceilings were all wood. They have river-rock fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, skylights and antique furnishings. The one we stayed in had beautiful stained-glass windows. They really went out of their way to make our stay as romantic as possible. Once you have your key, the cabin is all yours. It is your own private getaway. If you are running late they even offer to leave the key out for you when you arrive.

There was a private deck complete with barbecue and two chairs so you could sit and look out over the pond inhabited by African geese. The surroundings were lush and green and we saw lots of the cutest bunnies.

We also visited a lavender field and brought home a little lavender plant. If you do visit these same cottages, don't forget to visit Deception Pass. In fact, plan to stay at least two days, there are plenty of activities, including hiking and sailing.

I can truly say that without this book, we would most likely have never known about this secret hideaway. So, between you and me....don't tell too many people! This is a great place. Only tell your best friends or buy them this book. I also recommend this book as a wedding present.

The pages are filled with pictures of each getaway and the general prices are also listed for your convenience. I believe there is a new book with updated information, but this is the one I have.

Beautifully Photographed; A Wonderful Resource!
"Weekends for Two in the Pacific Northwest" is a perfect resource for couples looking to have some away-time in a special place. From Ashland to Seattle, the beautiful photographs and detailed explainations are very helpful in planning your gettaway. Prices and aspects of dozens of hotels, lodges, B&Bs, etc. are explored and the authors even give personal oppinons, and suggestions on which rooms are more romantic. I would recommend this book to anyone with a heart for romance. It's a favorite in my household!

Incredible!!!!
This book has done a wonderful job of collecting some of the best places in the Pacific Northwest for couples. It gives comprehensive descriptions, tells you the best rooms to stay in, gives rates (they may be a little out of date now, but still-ballpark), and in general does a good job of showcasing the selected hotels. It made me want to visit every one of them. If you live in the area, or are visiting, and are romantically inclined, or know someone who is, get this book.

The Definitive Guide To Ampeg!
This is, quite simply, the ultimate guide for anyone that has any interest in Ampeg, amplifiers, or bass guitars. A briliant job of putting together a lot of information, with a lot of great pictures.

A must own for anyone even remotely interested in the topic.

A Must Read for all Ampeg Enthusiasts!
Ampeg : The Story Behind the Sound is a book that anyone who is in the music business or interested in music or recording MUST read. Gregg Hopkins and Bill Moore did an unbelievable job of tracking down and producing the last word in Ampeg bass, guitar and amplifier facts, myths and legends. This book is worth the price for the pictures alone! Having been an Ampeg user (1966 B-15N amp and 1963 horizontal fretless electric bass) since 1975, I thought I knew quite a bit about Ampeg, but this book made me feel like a novice. If you now own, have ever owned, or know someone who owns any Ampeg equipment, this is THE bible of Ampeg information; from the invention of the amplified bass peg to the difficult decision by the Hull's to sell the company, and the pictures-did I mention the PICTURES! A roomfull of upright baby basses-incredible, breathtaking! You won't be able to put it down! For collectors and working musicians alike-this book has it all! Thanks to Gregg and Bill and all the folks who contributed info, stories and pictures to this awesome tome. An amazing read!

Tom Runnels view of life as only he could see it!
Tom is a complete artist, sculptor and author, who uses his great talents to spin yarns, illustrate them and bring us to tears and laughter, sometimes all at the same time! This book is a treasure and a great addition to any real Americana collections. I loved it!

Hanns Eisler Political Musician
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (1983)
Authors: Albrecht Betz and Bill Hopkins
Amazon base price: $70.00
Average review score:

comprehensive,analytic history of a 20th Century master
Although written in the mid-Eighties this is still an exhaustive, detailed account of a Twentieth Century master, the first in English. Eisler was a Marxist and wrote music as well, two ultimately unique facets of a creator today. No one forsaw the emergence of culture as a last bastion of internal resistence to the state of the world. This is why Betz's book here is so important, for it gives both the analytic and the historical. Betz traces Eisler's entire career. Beginning with the early days as a Schoenberg student. Eisler to my mind anyway had more of a realist vision of the state of Germany, than his counterparts Weill,Berg or Webern in the Twenties, which is why he adopted his political convictions. His early music adopts a Schoenbergian free atonality but he finds his own voice there. Compelling, neurotic and momentum bound are the main features of this early music,He wrote a powerful "First Piano Sonata" from this period and began dabbling in music as social discourse He utilized newspaper clippings, or "Zeitungsausschnitte" the title of the work for piano and voice. Betz extends his analysis to Eisler's meeting in Berlin with Brecht, one of the most prolific and profound collaboration of this century. Betz develops a concept of Eisler's modernity and the unique creative challenges he faced in uniting text with music. Eisler, who wrote over 500 songs during his life was like the Schubert of our age, almost no text was beyond a run through with piano accompaniment. The thrust of this modernity was Eisler's penchant for a striking image, a compact, terse lyrical musical means. Often his songs are quite short which points to this modernity in fast development and quick, concentrated musical motives, where single exposed tones can trigger an image of violence or terror. There is also here an elaborate discussion of Eisler's last major work the opera "Johann Faustus". When Eisler was thrown out of the United States he returned to the DDR, East Germany, and was wholly ignored by the apparatcik authorities, despite the fact that he wrote their National Anthem. This opera was reason enough for this institutional neglect, with veiled barbs on the seductive sides of tyranny. He used the "Peasant Wars" in Germany in the early 1500's as a remote yet very immediate reality for this opera. Betz also includes a comprehensive list of all of Eisler's works including reference to numerous filmscores.

Good intro Good ending poor middlepart
I found this book almost the worst of the inside series. The tutorial are badly explained, they require a high knowledge of the software or at least such a confidence with the software that the person that has it wouldn't buy the book. I suggest to read carefully the manual that comes with lightwave then read the book. Beside this The book give good Ideas for video post effects and character modelling and animation. What is not well developed is the explanation of the modelling techniques and without modelling you won't have anything to map or animate or to adding effect to, things that are in most part well explained. What I am trying to say Mr Ablan is to focus a little bit more on lightwave's gui and modelling aspects, since they are the base of anything else.

Inside Lightwave 3D is a great book!
Mr. Ablan wrote a great book about Lightwave 3D. This book covers topics from installation, modeling, animation to post production. This is a well organized and easy to follow book. Architecture rendering and character animation are both covered in this 743 pages book. You don't have to be a Lightwave user to benefit the technique that it teaches here. I especially love Chapter 17's (Video Post Effects) creative approach to post-production. This book is a must for all lightwave user. I give it a perfect ten!

This is a good book...........
I've read all the reviews you are reading now. After compare with other Lightwave 3D books, I bought this one, and at the same time I bought Inside Softimage. These two books are among the best book I've ever read (others are the Adobe Class in A book series)! One thing many people didn't tell you is that this book doesn't have colored pictures, which is kind hard to really see the differences of the rendered pictures. You will, however, learn a great deal of skills about lightwave 5.5. there are a lot of illustrations will help you go through each step. More than that, you will learn what Pro animators do (how to make money :) there are 2-3 typing (printing) errors of refering to the objects in the CD-ROM that came with this book. If you really want to learn lightwave, buy this book.
