Johanna Hurwitz is great!
My name is Russell too, but I am a good Russell. The Russell in the story is nice but sometimes he's naughty. After Germy and Russell hit eachother they were friends again. I learned to read with these books, now I can read! That's all I want to say!

P.S. from Russell's mommy: these books are wonderful, perfect for any emergent reader, and just fine for energetic little boys. It was fun to read realistic vignettes set in the city. I liked the chapter where Russell goes out for Chinese food with grandparents, it was familiar! We have read all of them in the series, one is funnier than the next! Johanna Hurwitz has the heart of Beverly Cleary, and the talent, too, but with a style all her own. Don't miss these lovely read-alouds!

Rip-Roaring Russell
Five year old boy experiences some of lifes moments shared by other children. Chapters have stand-alone themes, so it is greaat for a chapter a day before bed or at school. It explores disappointment, fighting at school, a first chinese dinner and wanting attention. Delightful, although I changed use of "stupid" to "dumb" that Russell uses. A great book for students from K through 4th grade, as well as parents. It is a humorous, family oriented book.

really good
I remember reading this book when I was in second and third grade. I checked it out from our school library a million times and would read it over and over again. One thing that I loved about it so much was that I thought that it was a "chapter book" and I felt so grown up for reading it. Great stories are in it; I still remember them 9 years later. The doll, the haircut, the baseball game, and when Elisa was hiding underneath the table during her parent's dinner party. It's a book that is written so that even a second grader can read it on their own, with maybe a little bit of help. Also easy to understand, yet interesting and challenging at the same time. I definitely would recommend this book. (Infact, I now want to buy it because I loved it so much as a child.)

Russell and Elisa
Another in a 'series' of Russell Books. My 5 year old begged me to read more. It is a family story centered around a seven year old boy with a three year old sister. This book brings out interesting subjects such as sleep-overs, cutting hair and attending a first baseball game. A young child will endjoy having it read to them - good discussion for parents. This is a humorous, family book that will be of interest to students from K through the 4th grade, as well as parents.

A good gift
This is an I CAN READ book, Level 1, so a child in first grade can probably read it herself. It makes a great Easter gift. Our kids loved getting this book.

The closest SILLY TILLY gets to perfection
From the name, this masterpiece of poetic songs may seem childish. What a deception! I may be a bit old for kiddy books, (I'm 47), but I cried the first time I read this book. I was so shocked when it went out of print. I am organizing a strike against those naughty publishers. SILLY TILLY live forever!

Frances is fabulous
"A rainbow and a happy tree are not for Alice or for me. I will draw three-legged cats and caterpillars with ugly hats." Frances deals with birthday envy and how to be generous when her little sister's birthday rolls around. Another bright and endearing tale about a lovable little badger. She's a model for all of us who aspire to write children's stories. And kids love her too. This is one of my two-year-old's favorite stories.

My Dad the Magnificent
Kristy Parker has captured a wonderful, realistic, timeless story! A great father's day book for a new dad or dad of young children. Even though a dad doesn't to exotic things, he can still be magnificent in the eyes of his child. The illustrations by Lillian Hoban are perfect for this story.

Risking it all for love...
This story is incredibly sweet! It's about Emmet Otter and his Ma trying to scrape together enough money for a Christmas present for each other. As each risks everything to surprise the other, a touching adventure unfolds in which they learn the true meaning wealth. Beautiful illustrations and fun animal characters, too.

This book teaches children to use their imaginations!
This children's book teaches children (and adults) to use their imaginations to create their own fun and avoid boredom. Frances's parent teaches him to carry a stone around in his pocket so that when he is bored with "nothing to do," he can rub the stone and concentrate until he has an idea of something fun to do. Frances finds that this idea works for him and teaches the technique to his little sister.

In these days of constant stimulation via video games, television, music, and other media, children still find themselves "bored." This book reminds them that their imaginations are the best tools for life. It also teaches them self-reliance--rather than dependence upon adults for solutions to their problems.

I became acquainted with this book in 1969 after discovering it in one of my sisters' rooms. I read it and presented the story to my high school speech class for a grade. It was quite a hit with my classmates and I received an A on my speech. It's well worth reading, if you can find it, and deserves a reprint for this generation of "bored" children and adults.

Busybody Nora
Wow! This was a great book to read. I enjoyed the exciting story about a young girl who goes out on many adventures. She likes to observe people and the way they act. This story is so much fun to read and I can pretend that I am going on those adventures too. It made me want to go out and see all the different people in my community. I hope that you take the time to read this book. It won't be a waste of your time!

A Good Book To Get To Sleep With
My mom and dad would read this book to me when I was about two years old and I would be asleep when they finished. It's a book about a little bear that doesn't wan't to go to sleep. He keeps on making excuses about not going to bed! And finally he gets to sleep.
