A Book About Terrible Teens
This book is about Rusty James and his wild life. He is very much the tough kid in twon but wants to be just like his brother MoterBoy. This book was pretty good to me. This book should be read by both parents and teens.

Refreshing
This is the first time I've ever read an S.E. Hinton book, and I must say that it's iffy if I read another. Taming the Star Runner had a great plot, but it could have been given a more in depth look. Taming is about a 16 year old boy going through problems and is sent to live with his uncle. His uncle happens to live on a ranch where he meets a girl named Casey who he starts to like. A friend of his comes to visit and he realizes that change doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Although the book is quick paced and thrilling, it is pretty 2 dimensional. I felt no real depth within the characters to feel more close to them - and depth in character makes a book more enjoyable.

Taming The Star Runner
Taming the Star Runner

This was the best story I have ever read. If I had to choose from a rating of 1-10, "Taming the Star Runner", would be a 10. I have always wanted to live on a farm. I thought this book had alot of emotional ups and downs. I like how a bad, non-emotional, punk, turns into a caring, emotional, young man.

There was a little bit of everything in the story. There was love, anger, sadness, and happiness. It gave me a good lesson on drinking and its consequences. It really shows me what a bad stepfather is like. My cousin's stepfather is no where near as bad as Stan. It taught me to be sure to choose the right friends and the right decisions in life. Taming the Star Runner was the best book I have ever read.

Taming the Star Runner
This was an excellent book! I usually don't read S.E. Hinton but I picked it up because I love books about city kids going to the country.

It's about a troubled youth named Travis who is sent to his uncle's ranch in Oklahoma after the attempted murder of his step father. After a rocky start, Travis meets a girl named Casey down at his uncle's barn. Casey's got this crazy horse, the Star Runner, that she shows in jumping.

I really loved the characters. They were pretty typical S.E. Hinton, which is not bad. They seemed so real, especially the relationship between Travis and Casey. I thought it was really funny, the way that Travis dealt with the horses (and his comical cat Motorboat). The book was also very serious at times, dealing with a lot of teen issues. I loved the fact that Travis was a writer. All in all, a great book!

It's okay
I had to read this book to help me with a report. It doesn't talk much about S. E. Hinton's life, but it's great if you need it to help you write about her books. It explains each character in all her books alot. It also talks about her books' settings and themes. If you need to talk about that, it's very helpful.

Depending upon your age, this might help you.
"Spark Notes The Outsiders" was not helpful in the sense of explaining symbolism and it only gave brief summary's of each chapter. Helpful for younger readers, but somewhat useless for older readers. As always, you should read the Spark Notes AFTER you have read "The Outsiders." Ages 10 to 13 - I recommend; ages 13 and up - I do not recommend.
