Grant Hill Worlds Greatest
I did like the Grant Hill book ,but I thought it could have been longer. I like learning about Grant Hill he is a awsome player! I think if you want to do a autobiografe on Grant Hill you should read this book. It gives good facts about Grant, and its not hard to read. There are about 6 characters in the book that all play important part in Grant's career. I can't say it was the best book I've ever read but it gets a good spot. I would recamend anyone to this book if you are interested in Garant Hill.

Good Book and Not for The Frivolous Fan.
If you want to know about Calvin Hill (Grants Father), buy this book. If you want to know about The history of Grants career, buy this book. If you want to know how Grant got his First name buy this book. If you want to learn about how to get Grant to the altar, buy some other book. This is a good book for a fan of the man's game, and his real personality. If you are a lust crazed fan trying to findout if he has a girlfriend, or what his ideal woman is like please don't buy this book, it will only make you angry. This book is a good book, for a fan of the man and the game, not just a fan of the man.

Riveting account by an advocate of mental health & analysis
Lucy Daniels nearly lost her life when she became severely mentally ill, including an intense period of anorexia that left her weighing only 60 pounds at one point and forced her to be hospitalized. But she not only survived and came out stronger from her ordeal but even managed to produce an award-winning book (Caleb My son) before succumbing to a 40 year period of writers' block. She credits psychoanalysis and intense therapy with giving her back her ability to write and even with giving her back her voice, her courage.
This book, which reveals what it is like to be institutionalzied, given shock and insulin treatments and more, should be read by anyone interested in the ongoing debate about whether medication or psychoanalysis is the best treatment for those facing mental illness.
I should note that Daniels has been getting renewed media attention of late for her funding of an innovative program which allows writers and artists to get free or low-cost therapy for a period of several years. If (as I expect) psychoanalysis proves yet again to have significant value, perhaps the pendulum in the mental health field will swing back from using primarily medications to treat those with depression and other mental illnesses. Someday psychiatrists, psychologists and others in the field may even use analysis and no meds and stop handing out meds like water (now THAT'S a revolutionary thought these days!).

A DELICIOUSLY INTRIGUING NOVEL OF IDEAS AND LOVE
"In a World We Never Made" is a is a deliciously intriguing novel of philosophy, psychology, and social ideas that is also a tale of love, stress, and coming of age - of the conflicts as well as loving interactions of generations as they affect a handful of students and professors at a small university in the early 1970s. It is a well-structured, carefully written work in the tradition of Henry James, John P. Marquand, and Louis Auchicloss - and is good enough to deserve a place alongside the works of these elegant and renown writers.

This novel is a flawed masterpiece - flawed because much of its dialogue is excessively formal, even for an academic setting, and the conversation often sounds more like exchanges of carefully drafted letters. But it is well worth forgiving the flaws of the dialogue for its content, for the richness of its ideas, and of the wisdom that develops from it. And despite this flaw, the novel has thrust, power, and strong human interest, along with much wisdom - some of it of a universal nature, other the private wisdom of one man's unique vision. But I will say too much about the plot, as I do not wish to spoil any reader's enjoyment of its sometimes surprising twists and turns.

I don't know if this book will find commercial success - as a first novel from a small press that seems especially unlikely . But this is a good, wise, and honest work, and deserves to be widely appreciated - in this book form, and perhaps even as a movie - with Tom Hanks, perhaps (with his hair grayed a bit), as the young Professor Justin Post!

Great field guide to Austin, TX woody plants.
Easy to follow field guide of the major plants of the Austin, Texas area. Good line drawings. This will not replace Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Texas by Robert Vines, but it certainly easier to carry

Born-again chi-gung
I am about half way through this book and am straining not to put it down. It is full of rhetoric reminiscent of born-again literature, which makes me question some validity. Full of fantastical stories and not one reference as to where the information comes from. As far as his allopathic understanding of physiology/biology, it is hashed, at times incorrect and simply doesn't make sense. Another book just to turn a buck. Save yourself the time a read a better book!

Excellent and responsible introduction to chi gung.
I was introduced to the practice of chi gung through the writings of Daniel Reid--this book and another on traditional Chinese medicine.

The descriptions of the exercises are the best of any of the books I have read since (about 8), and the practice routine he includes is extremely well-structured and beneficial. I have been doing this routine daily for about 6 months, and have enjoyed numerous substantial benefits from it. No other author I have found has provided such a complete workout routine. I have continued to use it as a basis for additional material I have learned from other sources.

I am most grateful that Mr. Reid, among others, has been willing to make this information available to us in print.

Excellent book for beginners, very concise and explanatory.
For those of you starting to learn Chi Kung, this book will give you thorough information about the whole history, the different practices and forms, and the relation body to universal chi. It?ll also give you explanations about the benefits of practicing Chi Kung for yourself as preventive healthcare as well as how it is used to heal others. It covers the various ways of working with Chi, best locations, best time and environment, and a few sets of daily practices.
This book is excellent for beginners wanting to know what they are dealing with or for curious people to get a good knowledge of Chi Kung. Highly recommended.

Lots of Vocab...too bad most of it is localized
This was a text I used in Beginning ASL II. There is a supplemental video that goes along with the book as well.

While there is tons of vocabulary used in this text, most of it is used the the Pacific Northwest area. This is not a great book if you're taking classes in the midwest or even the south. I was really glad that I had a professor that could show me local signs in my State/City/neighborhood.

There is some examples of ASL grammar included, but nothing hard and fast. As I've learned, the grammar has been easier to pick up.

The video I mentioned is very helpful since most of the exercises revolve around certain scenes that are acted out. There are some werid camera angles during a few black and white "intermissions".

Good book.... Not recomended for self-study.
Good textbook for an ASL course.
Written by experts teaching the ASL.

Teaching Textbook
I have taught sign language courses for 10 years and find this book to be a good resource for beginners. However, in the midst of teaching this course, my "video" was lifted from my classroom. I would like to purchase the video without having to purchase the book again. Aaaah! What does one do?

Not a Stand-alone resource
I'd like to echo the previous user's comment about this book being hopelessly outdated. While I understand that information technology moves very quickly these days, there is no excuse for not having a website available where addendums and updates can be posted. That, IMHO, is the more damnable than being outdated. Most of the technologies are old, and the links provided work about 25% of the time.

That being said, it does provide a good academic introduction to some of the mechanisms of e-commerce. The explanations and comparisons of such things as digital signatures and EDI are good. While the newer technology has indeed overtaken the market, they still build on top of the old. So this book will still give you valuable insight and understanding about how the new technologies work. It is not completely worthless, but readers should also refer to more recent texts or resources on the Internet for updated information on the technology.

Informative and thorough, but hopelessly outdated
Before you do anything else, look at the publish date of this book. In Internet time, this book is an antique. While very informative regarding the state of technology in early 1997, its relevance is minimal today. As an unintended history of Internet commerce technology, it is interesting, but as an in-depth guide to design and structure of today's solutions it lacks currency.

Some examples:

No reference to DVD-Rom in the discussion of CD-Rom (DVD not commercially available when published); Amazon.com as an afterthought in the discussion of e-commerce players (early in growth cycle); ISDN as the holy grail of internet connectivity (cable and DSL not commercially available)

...and so on. Do yourself a favor and find a book no more than 3-6 months old.

poorly written and a waste of time
This book feels like it was written for no other reason then to cash in of Left Behind's popularity. The writing is unfocused and hard to follow and the author certainly doesn't use his book to explore Christianity in any kind of depth or bring any insights into the faith. It's a waste of time from any angle you look at it. Try We All Fall Down or the Christ Clone Trilogy instead if you're looking for thoughtful books that explore the topic with insight and intelligent writing.

It is written
Using the same formula and capturing much of the same type audience from the Left Behind series this book has a tad better writing style. The theme is the same as the Left Behind books but in this initial installment the characters who are introduced are multi-dimensional and more "real." As in the Left Behind, the book begins with the massive dissapearence of the multitudes of believers leaving people who thought they had faith wondering why they are still here. Well, of course it is to fight the forces of evil! It is the time of the Rapture. The faithful heroes are cast about and converging to congregate and form the Prodigal Project in this opening book of surely more to come. His evilness is Izbek Noir who has managed to organize the diverse Arab politicians and nations against the encroaching "Western repression." The mujahhideen and Izbek Noir has far reaching appeal as his rhetoric has influenced mobs throughout the world, including Africa and Latin America to threaten the stability of their governments. The growing tension and hordes of followers has the world on the brink. His evilness orchestrates the ultimate attack on his own by attacking Mecca and blaming the West and thus galvanizing solidarity throughout the Muslim world. Izbek Noir is the equivalent of the charismatic Nicloae Carpathia from the Left Behind books. On the other side of the spectrum there are other parallels of characters including the Reverand Henderson Smith who is much like Tsion Ben- Judah and serves as the spiritual leader. The world is in utter chaos and the lines have been drawn. Which sign will you identify with? Will you identify with the imbeded bar code chip that will get you your goods or will you be one of the resistant chosen few? It is a fast moving story that is easy to follow and full of intrigue and messages. Towards the end of the book it was getting a little preachy but otherwise it is nice piece of fiction regardng the end times. Recommended for believers and non-believers alike.

The End = The Beginning!
The Prodigal Project, Book 1, Genesis (289pp), lets you know up front that more books will follow...it is a series. The end is yet the beginning for the men and women left behind after the Rapture. All of the children (even the unborn) were taken up. This book is NOT a carbon copy of the "Left Behind" series. But if you enjoyed "Left Behind", you will love this book. The people that remain on earth are very real characters. You will feel that you know them or someone just like them. They all have normal everyday flaws like Shannon who needed a little more time to get into the bible and church; Thomas was a divorced man who now had the desire to experience other women; Rev. Smith who lusted for a bigger church and seemed a bit too on edge for a man who has Jesus in his heart; Ivy a wife that fantasized about infidelity and harbored anger at God in her heart for birthing a handicapped child; Cat whose destiny seems to be entwined with the devil/dark forces and; Slim a photographer who witnessed an evil murder and was allowed to live afterwards. These individuals will independently have to determine their purpose for being left behind and determine if their souls will pass the test for a second chance.

After the Rapture the world is in chaos. It does not read like Science Fiction, but resembles the current state of our world after Sept. 11th, just on a heighteed scale.

The story is propelled with the inclusion of Azul Dante and Izbek Noir. The readers will be intriqued as the story unfolds with good versus evil. The only hope is The Prodigal Project, but what does it mean? Get this must read book to find out.

Waste of money
The book is unpractical for the working engineer and the mathematics is simplified calculus which is not understandable to the average practicing engineer, but seems to be in favor of academic types. This is not a book for someone who wants to learn why production equipment works. The chapter on multiphase flow is its only saving grace, but any cheap paper on the subject will say as much. I would recomened the OGCI books on Production Technology. Way cheaper...way better...

Usefull Reference Book for Petroleum Engineers
This is a comprehensive and relatively advanced book in petroleum production engineering. It helps to understand important parameters that control the performance of the production system. This book explains complex concepts of engineering very easy. Last, it has been written by experienced professionals world wide well recognized in the oil industry.
