Incredibly Profound - Amazingly Practical!!!
This book is a must for any leader's, execuitve's or executive coach's bookshelf!

Dr. Heller boils very complex and deep philosophies down to simple exercises, movements, practices that can generate profound power, peace and effective action in today's fast paced crazy world. People who are leading or trying to maintain focus in today's corporate world will particularly benefit.

I have applied the principles myself and solid business results because of my increased sense of confidence and conviction. I can directly link the lessons learned from Dr. Heller to a 75% increase in my business this year alone. Amazing what inner alignment can do and this is exactly what comes from applying the Dr. Heller's wisdom.

As an executive coach I have also incorporated what I learned from Dr Heller's work with similar results. If you are working with leaders as a coach or consultant - this is a must. If you are an executive you will find tremendous benefit from applying the principles directly.

Read this book, apply the lessons - you will see results!!!

A Gem!!
This book is an absolute gem; it gives you a wonderful view of Judaism through the eyes of children. Only children would say that one way of knowing that someone is Jewish is by the way they are able to make the guttural "ch" sound! As a Judaic Studies teacher for the last 25 years, this book brought me laughter, tears, joy and satisfaction that children feel so comfortable with who they are, and love to share it. If you are looking for a fresh, new view on religion, God and being Jewish, don't miss the opportunity to read this book! A great find--

Blasphemy at its most hilarous and biting
Although I would not say that this book is entirely on the level of Heller's first three books (all masterpieces), as it does not, perhaps, resonate with the vibrancy and poignancy of everyday life as those works do, God Knows is nevertheless an entertaining, blasphemous, and laugh-out-loud hilarous Bibilical parody. Many an author has turned their skills to the task of setting a famous Bibilical character into the universe of modern literature and re-telling their story that way, but few have done it with the intelligence, wit, and sheer knowledge of Heller. This is the work of a man that, though perhaps a Jewish atheist (I'm not too sure of what Heller's religious views were), nevertheless clearly had a vast and perhaps encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible - or the Old Testament, at any rate. Here, we have the story of King David ("the best story in The Bible", as the narrarator himself repeatedly tells us), told through Heller's first-person satiric lens, casting the famous and mythical character straight into the pantheon of modern literature. Many may well consider this book blasphemous (although I am glad, and pleasantly surprised, indeed, to see in some of the other reviews here that members of the clergy have read and enjoyed it), it is all in good fun, and quite an entertaining read - as well as also hitting home at several points. Although there are several laugh-out-loud segments, Heller, beneath the farce, is also asking existential questions, as well as tackling some complex moral issues: God's apparent inclination towards punishing the innocent for the crimes of the guilty is given a good bit of attention here. Although this book may well have some sort of a built-in audience due to it's Bibilical leanings, it probably does not have a more or less universal audience as his first three books did - being steeped heavily, as it is, in its subject matter. I think that you will enjoy the book a lot more, and will certainly find it funnier, if you are familar with The Bible - or at least the parts that it deals with. Indeed, if you are highly steeped in Bibilical subject matter, you may well consider this Heller's best book. I reccommend it regardles, however: even if you are not knowledgable with its inherent subject matter, you will still find the book enjoyable, especially if you are a fan of Heller's particular style and liked his other writings.

Pull Out Your Bible and GIGGLE!!
In what can only be called the shear GENIUS of Joseph Heller, God Knows crosses the line between biblical irony and just plain FUN!! As a member of the clergy I found this book a refreshing and oftentimes TOO POIGNANT look at one of the greatest biblical heroes! Heller breathes life and REALITY into a character of mythical proportions. . . just in time to remind us that we are all HUMANS and a part of God's work. I am sorry for those Catch-22 fans that cannot let go of their IDOL WORSHIP for Joseph Heller. They are missing out on good writing and some downhome chuckles. . . GO FIGURE!!

God Knows How Great This Book Is
Joseph Heller has once again shown his mastery of irony and the absurd. His portrayal of King David is both hillarious and blasphemes. It is not often that I laugh out loud while reading a book. By breathing life into the Old Testament charachters, Heller is able to add flesh and bones to a somewhat boring Biblical account. But God Knows is something more than just a risque telling of Kings, it is also a story about aging, love and religion. He ponders great questions on the fallacy of a God that allows the innocent to die. All in all, a great read.

Life the Science of Biology : The Cell and Heredity v.3

makes AP bio a whole lot easier
As part of the AP Bio program, I feel that a lot of information must be crammed into a student's head. Purves et al meticulously explain each process, allowing for easier memorization and, more importantly, understanding of the complex processes. Some chapters, however, are still extraordinarily difficult to master. For example, chapters 14 and 15 were practically impossible (snrps anyone?) Other than that, this book is flawless. The pictures and the explanations that accompany them are very useful. I would recommend this book to those that are considering an AP biology course or even a college course (Did you know Harvard uses this book? That made us high school students feel smart!) Enjoy everybody!

Somewhat lessens the hell that is AP Biology
As an 11th grade victim of AP Biology, I have found some solace in this textbook. It is well-written and illustrated, and it is usually clear and informative. Aside from the occasional chapters that threw me for a loop (For example: Chapter 14 - The Eukaryotic Genome and its Expression. Huh?) the book is very good and I would recommend it to future AP Bio students.

Best Biology Textbook Publication in a very long time!!!
I have reviewed Campbell, Curtis& Barnes, and other fine textbooks in biology, as a teacher and a scientist, I find Purves, etal; Life , A Science of Biology as the best textbook on the market. His clear explanation of the concepts with bright, colorful pictures have helped my students to understand biological concepts for the AP Bio exam as well as preparing them for college. The questions after each and every chapter plainly incorporate the chapter's lessons as well as inclusion of the continuity of life that is important in all biology teaching. His book had already included the new domain designations and included the reasons as why they were being changed. ( As this was the infamous #3 question on the AP Bio exam.) As a trained molecular biologist, I am finally satisfied in the explanation of the molecular process of life. Again his use of good solid pictures help to re-enforce a difficult concept. I also know that MIT uses this book as well as Harvard, I urge every biology teacher professor to at least have this in their personal library.

Everything you would want to know about the heart!!
This book provides all the necessary information for anyone to understand the cardiovascular system. The diction used by the authors is superb, in that anyone, not just scientists or medical students, can easily understand the pathways described. The descriptions can get a little detailish, but it all comes around after a second or third time through. That is really the only setback of the book.
The information in the book is organized to help connect different ideas, a concept so incredibly important for the cardiovascular system.
I read this book in four days for a class I took, but really this book could be for anyone who is interested in learning about the cardiovascular system. I definitely recommend it to anyone interested.

Good for potential NT server users, outdated otherwise
If, like me, you're considering upgrading from a small peer-to-peer Windows 95/98 network to a proper NT server network and are wondering what NT is all about, this is a great introduction. Better than most introductory books, it clearly explains the advantages and limitations of moving up to NT and the basics of how file server and client/server operations work. However, if you're looking for up-to-the-minute NT information, you'd be better to look elsewhere. Despite the "totally revised and updated" claims, this book is clearly near the end of it's currency. The references to 9600 speed modems and PC's with 16 MB RAM let you know the revisions were not all that complete. But if you're mystified by what NT can do and want an introduction, this book will prepare you for more current/technical books.

A Picture Book of Passover
This book gives the history behind where Passover came from. The author writes about the story of Moses, and how his life was saved. One day a burning bush spoke to him in the words of God, and told Moses that he would be the new leader. As much as Moses pleaded for the Pharaoh to release the slaves, he declined and pushed them harder. As a reult Moses put a plague onto Egypt. These ten plagues swept through Egypt that attact various things. The Pharaoh soon let the slaves free, and sent Mmoses away. However, the Pharoah felt he had made a great mistake, and went after the slaves. Moses parted the sea for the slaves to get away from the Pharoah, and as the Pharoah proceeded across Moses commanded the sea to go back. As a result the Pharoah and his followers were killed. Tthe Israelites became a free nation. This became a celebrated holiday called Passover.us

A very nice overview
This book is a very good way to prepare a child for Passover. It starts with the story of the Exodus, beginning with Jacob's dreams, and continuing through the Israelites journey out of Egypt. It ends with a quick description of the Passover rituals and seders. This book has just the right amount of detail -- not too superficial, but not so much a child (or an adult) will not understand. I definitely need to add this to my collection of children's books of Jewish Holidays.
