Wonderful counting story!
This book is part of a series, with one book for each number up to Number Ten. They are all great, and work really well as a set. We started these books when my children were about 2, and still enjoy them at age 5. Each book focuses on one number, who is drawn with a face and presented as a character, called a Numberlie. Everything in their surroundings are in the quantity of their number. Number One lives at One Number Lane, and has one of everything. Number Two, in the Number Two book, lives at Two Number Lane, and so on. Each page has items to count that match the Numberlie of that book, and each Numberlie has a cute story to tell. When my children were little, we would read each book slowly, counting the items on each page every time. Now they nearly know the words of each book by heart, but still have fond feelings for the foibles of these lovable characters, and request the books often. These stories are very positive, and a fun way to learn to count.

Silly Reading Fun
Colin and Jacqui Hawkins created Pat the Cat to help their daughter learn to read. The rhyming split pages helped her recognize new words simply by changing a single letter as she turned each page. They then wrote Jen the Hen, Mig the Pig, Tog the Dog and Zug the Bug.

These stories are filled with rhyming humor and have been compared to Dr. Seuss, which is why I think I like them so much. For the first time, the five books have been brought together in a "starter pack" so your child can start on their road to reading.

The books are really hilarious and will make your children laugh out loud. Pat the Cat is my absolute favorite. He says: "Every cat should wear a hat." on the cover and then you open the book and find the last page has his picture and the word PAT. Then on all the shorter pages, you have c, f, m, h, b, r, s and n and line up with the AT so each page makes a different word as in cat, fat, mat, hat, bat, rat, sat, Nat.

The story is silly and starts with: "Do you know Pat the cat? Your child can then sound out the word C-A-T. Turn the page and you will find a very fat cat saying: "Fat, I'm not Fat!" Two little caterpillars comment on everything on each page.

All sorts or animals including Nat the Rat and Tat the Bat climb into his hat. Then Pat tries to get into his hat and the caterpillars have something to say.

Jen the Hen teaches children how to send a letter to a friend. Mig the Pig likes to wear a bright wig and also eats "fig" pie. Tog the Dog likes to Jog and so he gets into all sorts of trouble on his run through the pages. Very creative!

Zug the Bug goes fishing with a dog names Pug and then they glug down milk from a jug. The slug is quite the character in this book and the two caterpillars are just hilarious.

This set will teach children that reading is fun and they will soon be asking to read more books. This is a lovely introduction to reading, with great illustrations.

Dealing with nightmares
I bought this book years ago for my son who was troubled by nightmares. It came in handy just recently when my 6 year old daughter started complaining of nightmares.

The book is about Sally, who is kidnapped by the cutest monster you ever saw and carried off into the hairy, scary darkness where other equally cute monsters want to eat her up. Sally confronts the monsters, who decide to play with her. The story ends with Sally falling, falling, falling, down, down, down, into her bed.

Just the idea that such a thing as falling, falling, falling is in a real book seems to reassure my kids that this is a normal dream experience and nothing to worry about. I hope this book is back in print soon! I want a number of copies myself to give as gifts.

This is *too* cool! Even for the Mommy and the Daddy!
This was a joy to find in an outlet bookstore; just what was needed to keep a 4-year old entertained during a 6 hour flight. He was attracted to it immediately and had to help us buy it -- Not a common occurance.

It has pirates, sharkfins, rowboat, Island, Map, storybook, and a really cool detailed multilevel ship with plank, cannonports, anchor, sails, and everything!

Here's hoping the publisher decides to reissue this cool book.

Pirate Ship--a book that Big and Little Kids Don't Outgrow!
Agree with what others have written! My ten and twelve year-old (and their Mom!) regret that the book has worn down from years of play.... Sure wish it would get re-issued! :)

a very imaginative adventure of a book
My son and I have spent many hours enjoying this book Unfortuneately, it had succumbed to wear and tear. I'd really love to get ahold of some copies as christmas gifts. It's a book, an interactive toy and a treasure hunt rolled into one.
