I Am Still Astonished By This Book's Power
This book takes on a very difficult subject, African fetish statues, and with the help of wonderful photo plates, and a discussion of African American artist Renee Stout's contemporary interpretations of the subject, the work explains brilliantly the meaning of some of the most extraordinary works of art produced by humankind. Have you ever wondered why pins are stuck in voodoo dolls? Read this book and enrich your understanding.

REFLECTIONS FROM A WAR
I found this book hidden in the corner of the post exchange on Eagle Base in Tuzla. From the moment I opened its pages I knew that I would never put it down. Many volumes speak about the political, social, economic and ethnic divisions which caused the war in the Balkans. Cry Bosnia is not a dry history book which feeds the intellect with numerous facts and figures. Paul Harris, through his photography, has allowed the people of the region speak to us through their hearts. It is through the pictures and commentary that Cry Bosnia speaks to the hearts and minds of those distant witnesses of the Balkan War.

Harris doesn't spare us as he shows us the pictures of both human and physical destruction of a land of beauty. When we view those pictures we see faces of grief, despair and rage. At the same time we see hope, courage, laughter and the spirit of tenaciousness as a people attempt to rebuild their lives in the midst of a senseless war. When we see these pictures we see the ugliness of our humanity. Bosnia reflects the beast which is within us as the "world" allowed slaughter to go on as is asserted in the text. If anything Cry Bosnia can teach us to move beyond our negative spirits and recover the good from within us. Such a reflection from a war should move us to be more accountable to one another as our world gets smaller and smaller.

David and the Whirly Fish

A fun and easy to read story!
Ten-year-old David Green gets a big surprise when he buys a goldfish from Mr. Tidbinkle's Pet Shop. His fish is not an ordinary fish. He is a Whirly Fish unlike any fish David has heard of! He can whirl through the air, speak to David, and calculate problems on his flashing orange scales.

As the adventure begins with David and his fish, David gets into trouble at school because of his new pet. Dinner at Mrs. Podertuck's house turns out to be a mess because of the Whirly Fish and Timothy, a hungry cat. There's a girl David's age in parts of the story and he doesn't care much for girls! At a pond, the Whirly fish meets a girl fish, Angelica, and other creatures. As the story progresses, David winds-up getting his hands full because of his new pet! There are fish, snails, frogs, a cat, rabbits, a scorpion, a pelican, hummingbirds, water bugs, and others in the story.

What a fun book! It's well written from a 10-year-old's point of view. Young readers would probably find "David and the Whirly Fish" fun and easy to read. I highly recommend it! Two thumbs up! Great book Geraldine!

Exceptional text dealing with qualitative research
This hands-on book turns the highly theoretical world of qualitative inquiry into a doable approach to research in all areas of social science. I have found its methods to be extremely useful and easy to implement.

Great Book on Ancient Egpyt
This is one of the best, most informative books I've ever read. I am teaching my son about ancient civilizations and came across this book. I picked it up and couldn't put it down until I finished it. The book contains serially related myths from ancient Egypt and is written in a very engaging style. The author is clearly an expert on ancient Egyptian civilization and writes very well. The chapters are of a length appropriate for bedtime story reading as well as for school-related activity. Furthermore, there is a nice taxonomy of the ancient Egyptian "pantheon" and an interesting, if too short, discussion of glyph writing. The text is beautifully illustrated and has interesting footnotes about many of the illustrations.

Analytical summaries of the best of the literature
The Frontier Issues in Economic Thought summaries, along with the overview essays, provide a markedly different service from the standard collection of abstracts. The series will benefit not only scholarly work but the application of our best thinking to the problems of the times.
