Still in print after all these years
Geisler and Nix write what might be considered to be a classic on textual criticism. It is not impossible to read and should be understood by the average layperson who is not frightened of reading. They deal with everything from inspriation, canonicity of both the OT and NT, the major manuscripts, and translations of the Bible. It's probably as good an overall view of textual criticism as there is out there. With no updates since its original 1974 printing, and since the authors are still alive, I would challenge them to update the book for future generations, especially since there have been some new finds and translations made during the past quarter of a century. Updating shouldn't be that hard to do, and they would help preserve a valuable book for the years to come (when they are no longer around). If you have ever had anyone criticize the Bible ("how do we know it's translated correctly?"), this might be a good place to start to get some answers.

A necessity for serious stamp collectors
This book is not about stamp collecting as such, but it should be in the library of every serious collector, because without it few of us would be able to distinguish between the numerous varieties that occur both on common stamps and scarce stamps. The first edition was excellent; this second edition, on which L. N. Williams worked for eight years, is even better.
The book provides a thorough discussion of paper and of papermaking techniques; of design processes, die making, and the various methods of creating plates from dies; of printing methods and machinery; of separation methods and machinery, including the different kinds of perforating machines; of "gum" and its characteristics; of inks used for stamp production; and of the various ways in which errors, freaks and other unintended varieties can occur at various stages of the design and production process. It is superb and necessary background for deciding what one is looking at when that isn't immediately obvious, with very many high quality illustrations to help the reader understand the subtleties.
I couldn't do without it.
Great Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court: Ratings and Case Studies (American University Studies: Series X: Political Science, Vol 39)

Required Reading...
Once again, William D. Pederson and his esteemed colleagues provide a well written yet easy to read book for everyone. I found this book to be a joy to read, even though it was on my required reading list for a political science class...a list that usually does not contain anything worthy of writing a review for. In Great Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, I found the selections of Marguerite Plummer (Louis D. Brandeis & Benjamin Cardozo) especially "great." Her eloquent writing style combined with her ability not to get bogged down in the nitty-gritty of minute opinions allowed for a well-rounded view of the justices to come out. Another selection that I found to be intellectually stimulating was the Oliver Wendall Holmes Jr. selection by Patrick Gerry which discussed the "you can't yell fire in a crowded theater," coining the metaphor of comparing seditious speech to falsely shouting fire in a theater. Other selections well worth the time of reading include the great John Marshall, Roger B. Taney, William O. Douglas,& Earl Warren. Although Supreme Court Justices may not be everybody's "bag", Great Justices of the Supreme Court offers an excellent overview and great starting point for anyone looking to broaden their intrest in the field of Supreme Court Justices.

Excellent book for starting a Texas business
If you're thinking about starting a business in Texas, this book is perfect for you. It covers general issues like what type of business should you start (Sole Proprietorship, Corporation, etc.), Insurance, Employment and Labor Laws, and most importantly specific issues associated with Texas. For instance, Texas requires Franchise Tax be paid by all corporations and Limited Liability Companies. Texas also requires a Sales and Use Tax form be completed for any business selling taxable items (tangible and intangible property). I have read the other book "How to Incorporate and Start a Business in Texas" but it is more focused on the legal rammifications of corporations and not on specific Texas related issues. It is also good, but I recommend this book because it covers basically everything. Great reference manual.

The book of a champion
The book tells about his life as a boxer. It told how he struggled to get the championship belt. It told how he was sent to prison for draft evasion because he didn't want to fight in a war.It told how hard it was to keep a championship belt when all these new fighters arose. It also told about his illness, Parkinson's syndrome. All and all it was a really good book.

An excellent book about Norman Rockwell's support of the BSA
The book gives a brief history of Norman Rockwell's connection with Scouting and is one of the few, if not only, complete book of all of his Boy Scout works. "Green Bar Bill" Hillcourt does an excellent job of telling the story and how Norman Rockwell told the Scouting Story. A must for all Scouter's libraries.

Accomplishes the task of understanding HIV and the law
This book fills a gap in the literature out there for people with AIDS/HIV and the law. This ACLU handbook will prove invaluable to people living with HIV and their lawyers. If anything, this book accomplishes the task of showing people how to take advantage of protective laws, particularly antidiscrimination laws in the workplace. this handbook makes it clear how to take advantage of protective laws.

A can't put down book
As a teacher and sports fan, I found myself unable to put this book down. The book recounts the life of John Baker, an elementary teacher and track star, who was stricken with cancer at a young age. His stuggle to deal with the disease and continue his career, is an inspiration. In addition, you get to know his family and friends and how he helps them accept his disease. Reading this book will inspire you to not take what you have for granted and live for the moment!
A Symposium for Pianists and Teachers
Published in Paperback by Heritage Music Press (01 March, 2002)
Amazon base price: $45.00
Average review score:
A little bit of everything
This book can be used by pianists and piano teachers (often isolated in small towns) to find up-to-date answers to recurring injury problems, inspiration for playing "from the mind and heart" as well as the hands, and, in general, just talking about piano (although a lot of the information works well for other instrumentalists as well--especially the exercises for flexibility and strength). It's like a "class in a book."

If you suffer from high blood pressure you need to get involved with a health care professional to understand this book...also a basic understanding of physiology. Treatment and management are foremost, but there is comprehesive understanding about the causes of this disease state.
Rationale and goals, nondrug therapy and later drug therapy all play an important role in the treatment...all the time underline the role of the primary care physician.
A good book for understanding the etiology of hypertension distilled from volumes of published literature. Pathophysiology is a plus to permit good sound clinical judgement.
This is a single authored work, but it does involve references to subsequent work of others. A good book for Physicians, Pharmacists and primary care nurses... only those afflicted with hypertension or those involved in the treatment and management need to read this...
Informative and insightful are the words that best fit this book.
