No review can do this book justice
I loved this book. It expertly combined humor with romance. If you're a romantic to the core I guarentee that you'll this book. Enjoy!

Loved it!
Of course, I've pretty much loved all of Veryan's books, but this is my favorite. Rebecca is a smart, funny heroine who is neither overly prudish nor overly argumentative, the kind of heroine you don't find every day. And Trev- smart, funny, a rogue, handsome but human. I thought the story was very entertaining without being contrived, and Veryan's prose is very pleasant. I'm one of those readers who skims a lot when she starts getting bored by description, but I read and enjoyed every word of this book.

really funny and enjoyable
this is a great book and you'll not want to put it down. :)

Rodale's Garden Answers
I love this book, it has become my gardening bible! If I have a question, it has the answer. It has made gardening organically much easier.
Last year was my first year to try to garden organically, and it didn't work out too well. But this year I actually know what I'm doing! I would definatly recommend it!

Fantastic book
I really loved this book because it focused on organic methods first. Also, it goes though plant by plant and lists growth conditions, problems and many options for cures. It also goes through soil and garden development.

The Hint book for Organic Gardening
Spend less time reading and more time gardening with this quick-reference guide. The book is broken into five sections: Getting Started, Growing Vegetables, Growing Fruits, Growing Herbs, and Controlling Pest and Diseases. Each section is loaded with tips. In the Getting started section, you will learn about preparing a site, buying the right plants, and how to making Compost Tea. The Vegetable section, not only gives you a detailed write-up on over 30 different vegetables, but tells how to get 100 pounds of tomatoes from one plant. For the do-it-yourself group, there are instructions on how to build a homemade tomato cage.

The book devotes 100 pages to growing fruits. Learn how to make an aphid trap out of a milk jug or how to propagate berry plants and fruit trees. There are detailed care and maintenance write-ups on 12 of the most common fruits & berries.

The Herb section talks about controlling invasive herbs, companion planting, and how to perform a technique called layering.

The Controlling Pest and Diseases section points out beneficial insects and plants. The book also explains organic tricks for solving insect, plant deficiency, and disease problems. I love the way the book uses home products to solve common gardening problems in an easy to read format. This is my favorite gardening book.

Older struggling readers
I teach Title 1 disadvantaged reading students, most are learning English as a second language. I did a word a day with my 6th, 7th , and 8th graders. The making words lessons allowed me to introduce vocabulary, point out spelling patterns, talk about vowel variances, and talk about how our words are made up. I asked them to write the words as well as manipulate the letters. Sometimes, I asked them to group the words if there were several words with the same spelling pattern.

Great book for Phonics & Spelling Gr.3-5
This is a great how-to book for one specific phonics & spelling teaching strategy. It has made a big difference in my third graders ability to sound out unknown words and incorporate their knowledge of spelling patterns. Making Words is geared for K-3rd. Making Big Words is for 3rd thru 5th graders. It's a hands-on approach and it is very adaptable. You can do it just as suggested or adjust it to your students' particular need. It includes hundreds of lessons. It can also be used in coordination with thematic units that you may be using in your room. A great resource. Worth every penny. I just love Patricia Cunningham!

FINALLY! A BOOK THAT WORKS FOR UPPER EL
This book is by far the most beneficial I have found for my upper elementary students struggling to improve their reading skills. It gives simple, step by step instructions for each of the activities and requires very little planning time for the teacher. EVERY child can succeed at improving reading skills, and the activities are appropriate for older students. They do not feel like they are doing 'baby' lessons- an issue I have dealt with when using other phonics books.

Second Chance for Upper Grade Readers
This is an excellent choice for teachers who wish to implement a phonics program that can really work for upper grades. The book is divided into months. Each month there are activities ready to be used. The activities are categorized into four specific goals. Once you learn how to teach the four goals for the first month, you will be prepared to teach the same lessons again the next month, of course, using different words.

The phonics activities help students notice spelling patterns in words through clever activities that the older kids will enjoy. For instance, there are phonics lessons based on brand names! I highly recommend this program because it will give upper grade students the chance to learn how to spell high frequency words, to identify spelling patterns in big and small words, to monitor their spelling, and to use root/prefix/suffix parts of words to define and spell words.

This book is suitable for 4-8 grades. It includes lessons that will last for nine months of the school year. Teachers on year round schooling will also be able to use this book. Each lesson should take between 15-30 minutes, depending on the teacher's scehdule. This is an excellent book for upper grade teachers!

A Reader in Missouri
An excellent book. Very well written and easy to follow the more technical parts. I have gained some real insights from this book. I look forward to the authors' next work.

Now I know why I let others push me around
This is a unique and useful self-help book. It is the first book I know of to take the vast scientific literature on dominance and submission in the animal world and show that we humans have the same instinctive mechanisms within our own brains as well. It explains how the tendency to submit to others works so powerfully (and unconsciously) in many people. It presents the first scientific explanation for why so many bright, talented people wind up as underachievers in a world that should offer them so much more. This book explains both how and why we tend to sabotage our own best efforts to succeed. And most importantly, this book tells the reader how to overcome their own Submission Reflex and achieve the rewards that they truly deserve.

Great series....
I had some difficulty locating this book and ended up buying a copy of IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER from Alibris. The DEAD OF WINTER is the U.S. title of the book sold in the Britain as IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER and the two books are 99% alike. My understanding is that the U.S. editors change words, phrases, etc. they think Americans won't understand, which is silly because one of the reasons many Americans read British mysteries is because they LIKE the Brits and want to learn more about them. For example, would you understand "the labors of Causabon"? Hint--has to do with MIDDLEMARCH.

Patricia Hall has been developing a lovely series about her two protagonists Michael Thackerey and Laura Ackroyd and this is the 3rd or 4th book in the series. If you're following the Thackery-Ackroyd relationship, you will want to read this book since it provides insight into Thackery's struggles with his past. I know a man like Thackery, dealing with the death of his child, and I have to believe that Hall must also. In addition, Thackery is what some call a "fallen-away Catholic" and being in that category myself, I understand some of his angst.

Hall also has a political message--though her main characters are relatively neutral given their professions of news reporter and cop--and since I am of the liberal persuasion and agree with her message, I enjoy her books. Social conservatives won't like her books. A few of us Anglophiles are also of a socialist leaning however, and for us she is pure gold. What sort of people can deny the poor health care!!!

In the DEAD OF WINTER/IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER a number of folks need health care. There's plenty of murder and mayhem including angry parents who stage protest rallies to block eco-bashing trucks from destroying the peace and quiet and safety of a small village. There's not a lot of humour in this book but I love the names of the greedy corporate types--Cheetam and Moore.

This is a great book. Find it and read it.

WOW!
This book is wonderful! It contains 50 lessons for making words. It comes complete with a teacher script; you also have the option of using your own letter tiles or cutting out the tiles at the top of each lesson. Once I started using this in my classroom, my students reading grades soared. They were able to break words apart for easier decoding.

Word Building + Good Reading Program = GREAT Readers
Word Building was introduced to me about three years ago. I have been teaching for two years now and have used word building as a part of my reading program. I am pleased with the progress that my 2-3 graders make with this program. They understand how spelling and reading are related. Also it teaches them that two or three letters when put together make one sound. I purchased this book in September. I have been very happy with it. If you are unfamiliar with this method, this book is all you need. At the start of the book it shows you step by step how to set up word building in your classroom. Pictures are included. You will find over 150 word building lessons. Letter tiles for you to copy, cut, and laminate are included. I now feel that word building should be a part of every k-3 reading program.

Motivating, fun, interactive program for teaching Language
This book provides hundreds of fun, hands-on activities for teaching children phonics and spelling. I've used the book for several years, taught other teachers and interns the program, and I have not had a negative reaction by any student, parent or administrator. It is an excellent method for teaching learning disabled students at the elementary level. Children really learn phoneme segmentation, an essential reading skill, through this process. They especially love the culminating activity, finding the "Big Word."

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
"Making Words" is a super and exciting way to teach students spelling and phonics. I am a special education teacher. This was finally a way that my students enjoyed learning to read and spell.
