As a businessperson with an MBA, I readily identified with and agreed with the advice and strategies presented in this book. For people with a passion to help improve things in a not-so-perfect world, this book is a gift. It provides real life examples and turns theories into step-by-step directions. Each chapter makes good use of subheads and bullet points and ends with a concise summary. The authors have real-life experience working as social entreprenuers and it shows. I highly recommend this book.

Bateson was, NO DOUBT, one of the most challenging thinkers of his generation. Struggling at all times to keep his focus on how to make nature and communication more intelligible to more people so that they would have the tools and wisdom to see the consequences of their action on both other people and the planet. The best explanation of Gregory Bateson's ideas I have read! An amazing achievement by Peter Harries-Jones! Understand mind in Nature or be doomed! Politics must become aesthetic & beautiful for the optimal survival of humans on Earth or space. Continues examples of nature of autopoeisis, artificial life, Varela & Maturana, and interesting ideas about consciousness in biology... very good on showing biology as closed 'information' systems. A real ecological understanding!

Studies of Buddhism in China continue to flourish, and this is an excellent collection of essays that showcase the strengths of a historically-informed understanding of this religious tradition. Hawaii continues to lead the field in its publication of high-quality monographs and essay-collections on Buddhism. Some of the essays in the collection are stronger than others, though on the whole, this is a quite readable scholarly work. Shinohara's essay is especially good.

Most items provide a brief but critical review on the topics, all by preeminent figures in related areas. It's will be great helpful for both students and professionals.

This book is my parenting BIBLE!! I can't say enough good things about it--each and every chapter is INVALUABLE. I am so glad I found something that can help me figure out how to handle my kids at every bend in the road, in virtually every situation. It advocates attachment parenting and loving-guidance discipline, and also gives you a plethora of techniques and tells exactly when and how to use them (i.e. "everyday discipline" vs. bigger, more stubborn issues). He clarified the reality that family life is not just a mundane distraction--a family should have goals, a vision of where they are going in life, etc. He talks extensively about how all family members must have a solid rapport between them for discipline to be effective, for love to be felt, etc. He clarifies the question of spanking from both a spiritual and a scientific perspective. He goes into detail about how to handle the various stages of childhood, from loving the infant to "taming" the toddler to handling the teenager--gracefully. He outlines how to foster virtues, morals, a love for religion and a love for Jesus in your children; he tells how to make your family into the "domestic church" Pope John Paul calls it to be. I wouldn't even waste time with any other parenting or discipline book--this one more than covers all your questions and worries. I refer to it at least once a week, and it gives me the guidance I need to be an effective yet loving parent to my kids. It wil literally change your outlook on family life; it will give you new hope and make parenting a truly gratifying experience. The title couldn't be more appropriate--now I really have the information I need to raise "perfect" kids! If you REALLY unconditionally love your children and want them to be the best they can be, you will be thrilled to have this book!

Whether you're Catholic or not, if you are a parent you will benefit tremendously from this book. I'm a Catholic parent and I'm really thankful that someone took the time and trouble to organize the vast plethora of parenting techniques out there so that it is easy to see their place within the structure of a Catholic parenting paradigm. The author is very knowledgeable of both scripture and church doctrine and explains their relevance to raising children. The step by step techniques for dealing with the various stages of a person's maturation are excellent. He also has little quizzes that you can use to help elucidate the areas where your parent-child relationship may need help. He has a superb treatise on why spanking is not a suitable discipline technique. I can't say enough about the excellent blend of philosophy, practical application and religion that the author has put together in this book. He is an organizational genius. Read this book!

This book is great! I love the way it integrates authentic Church teaching with really practical parenting advice. I only got it two weeks ago, and the techniques are already making a huge differences in my childrens' behavior. I really look to it on those days when I'm not sure what to do to keep things on track. I only wish I knew about it sooner! I know what I'm giving as gifts to my mother's support group. Thanks for this great resource.

I just took the CISSP exam this week and wanted to come back and give my thoughts on this book. I was fairly disappointed in the lack of detail that this book provided, and wouldn't recommend it as your single study resource. In my opinion, this book lacks the amount of detail that the average person would need to get their CISSP certification. I used two resouces while studying for the exam. (this one and The CISSP Prep Guide) I thought the prep guide was better written and I also liked the advanced question and answer sections that that book has. If I was starting over again, I wouldn't use CISSP for Dummies as one of my study resources.

I used this book along with the CISSP Study guide Gold edition and passed the CISSP on my first try. The CD is great especially if you have a PDA with a PDF viewer. Totally worth the price!

I just got the email, I passed! CISSP for Dummies is concise, easy to read, and tells you *exactly* what to study and concentrate on for the Exam.
I also read the Wiley book, boring and full of gramatical errors, some of them were really confusing.
Along with the Flash Cards and Boson tests, the Dummies book is worth every penny! I could not have passed without it.
I would recommend the Wiley test exam questions (separate book), they helped a great deal too.
