Chased by the author
I'm Hank Nelson, the sole author of Chased by the Sun. I do not know of Richard Green. The book is a paperback.

It has had excellent reviews in Australia, but I'm hardly the bloke to make an unbiased judgment.

I have used the review space in order to make the correction

The plot thickens
Episode 2 of the Deathstalker series really pulled me in. While episode 1 got things rolling with introductions episode 2 moves the story along at a nice pace. Owen and Hazel land on Mist World a last refuge for people wanted by the empire. As the title indocates they meet up with all kinds of friends, enemies and allies. A batch of new and interesting characters are introduced and join Owen Deathstalker and Hazel on their quest to bring down the evil empire. "Sounds familiar?" As i mentioned in my review of episode 1 this series borrows heavily from the Star Wars universe yet it is distinctive and does offer fresh plot lines of its own. As well there is a more adult flavouring to this series then Star Wars. Of course these books are geared for the male reader/listener in mind but girls will have no problem in enjoying them as well. Plenty of tough female characters abound. My favorite character however is Valentine Wolf, an aristocrat and one of the most colorful characters in this series. Simon Green has him as a sexually ambivalent man who on the surface seems so delicate but in truth is quite powerful and shrewed. His face is full of make up and the reader injects a bit of a stereo typical gay tone when narrating his part. Still, its a welcome addition to a genre that seems to be intrinsically hetero centric. In short, these books are full of action and I am hooked! This book contains 2 audio cassettes and is narrated by a cast of readers. There are sound effects and music as well to complement the narration.

Helpful book for chaplains and caregivers
I fail to realize why this book is not used more by chaplains and caregivers who help the sick. It contains prayers from the ages, and helps to describe the way prayer and faith speed the healing process.

Comments from the author
By the Author:

Since this book deals with the late 1960's, and the problems that plagued that era, it is particularly compelling to the more senior reader, who lived through that time. It contains a love story, along the lines of a princess and a pauper. This is a love that starts in early youth and extends through marriage and the first days of parenthood. Tragedy occurs, and the father is challenged in his relationship with his son during the devilish period of negativity surrounding the Vietnam War. It occurs to the writer, that the descriptions ring true, and serve to bring back a reader to those times.

"...characters most formidably alive..."
The Green Branch is the second book in a trilogy, the first being The Heaven Tree and the conclusion being The Scarlet Seed. It is a highly dramatic and satisfying piece of storytelling, concerned mainly with the theme of honor and the difficulty of honoring one's vows. The quote above is from the author's introduction to the 1993 edition of the trilogy.

Taking up thirteen years after The Heaven Tree, we find Harry Talvace's widow in Wales, married to his best friend, and Harry's son (also named Harry) a young warrior eager to prove himself and carry out his blood feud against Ralf Isambard, who ordered his father's death. Harry is captured by Isambard, who offers him his parole to fight for the Welsh prince against England if he returns when the war is over. In spite of terrible temptations, Harry keeps his promise, even to the point of refusing to kill Isambard in battle.

This book is not as strong or moving as the first and last books, but is an essential part of the trilogy nevertheless, carrying on the author's themes and plots and setting up the climactic events of the third book. The interactions between young Harry and Isambard are wonderfully drawn, as Harry all unwittingly learns about honor and oath-keeping.

A VITAL NEW CONTRIBUTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY
WITH ITS RE-WRITING OF THE ORIGINS OF ENVIRONMENTALISM, THIS BOOK IS PROBABLY THE MOST SIGNIFICANT BOOK PUBLISHED IN ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY IN THE LAST 10 YEARS. I FELT IT COMPARED WELL WITH SIMON SCHAMA'S LANDSCAPE AND MEMORY IN HELPING US TO UNDERSTAND THE EVOLUTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN. IN PARTICULAR THE NOTION THAT ENVIRONMENTALISM BEGAN ON FRENCH OCEANIC ISLAND COLONIES, ESPECIALLY ON MAURITIUS, IS A REVOLUTIONARY ONE.

Green Soldiers

astonishing poetry about war and ordinary life
Green Soldiers has two discrete sections. The first, and most powerful, has poems about the World Wars that evoke the poetry of Wilfred Owen. Bensko is probably the only writer besides Stephen Crane who can create a vivid, intense atmosphere of a war without having had first-hand experience. The poems in the second section are about everyday topics--a girl in the park, children at a planetarium--but with interesting psychological twists. The book's final poem, "The Night-Blooming Cactus," is a meditation on lost love, and a strong ending to an excellent collection. Green Soldiers is the one poetry book I never ever lend to friends because it's out of print and I simply have to have it to read again and again.

invaluable for anyone renovating an old garden
I purchased this book right after I bought an old house with a seriously overgrown garden. This book told me how to save the neglected fruit trees and rose bushes, and how to save the languishing perennial beds. Plus, it's a good guide to general garden maintenance. I'd love to see a west coast version.

Excellent comprehensive Retina Vitreous text
This two volume set covers medical and surgical retina. It has many fine color photographs and is written on a high level. It seems to fill some of the gaps left by the Ryan Retina series. Drug coverage seems up to date, and treatment recommendations are current
