nigel gray creates an astounding and beautiful story of the heart warming realationship between a young little bear and his dear grandfather. their appriciation for one another grows deep with love with every vist that little bear makes to grandpa's house, where they never fail to have their snack and a story telling by grandpa in the tree house. unfortunatly grandpa goes to the hospital one day and the roles of the story telling are reversed. little bear tells the story this time while grandfather rest, but when he fails to wake up little bear learns that his loving granpa fell into a deep sleep but his love will always be with him no matter where he goes, because love lives deep within his heart and the greater his love for another, the greater it is in return. gray's book is a wonderful heartfelt touching story that entices you to show affection to those you love. a must have for all!

Of all the nations on earth, tiny scotland has one of the most colorful histories,and noone brings that history to life quite like Nigel Tranter. The Master of Gray trilogy is Tranter at his best. His portrayal of the infamous Patrick Gray is superb. One is constantly torn between admiration & disgust of this clever and beguiling intriguer, once dubbed `the most handsome man in Europe'. Alongside this dashing figure sits the bumbling, slobbering figure of JamesI & VI of England & Scotland, a beautifully inept character with his broad scots accent and unsavory habits who nevertheless shows flashes of genius and keeps the reader guessing right to the end. The settings are spectacular and beautifully written, and the plot twists and turns like a serpent on a hotplate! If you have no interest in Scottish history this book will remedy that. Highly reccomended.

Oliver Twist Finds A Home is a very highly recommended addition to family, school, and community library collections for young readers.

Using a unique style of arringing text and pictures, this book allows children to compare and contrast two very different cultures for themselves. The simplistic text is arranged in the center of the page describing daily events that happen in the life of a young boy. Two sets of pictures, above and below, surround the text. The top pictures display a boy doing an action in a small African village, while the lower pictures exhibit the same action being done by a boy in a United States suburb.
I belive this book is an exceptional teaching tool for younger children. It is an enticing introduction to the concept of comparing and contrasting countries. I like the simplistic language used that allows readers to delve into the illustrations to find similarities and differences between the two cultures on thier own. I would be a little careful using this book because of stereotypes that could be perceived. All parts of the countries might not be represented by the illustrations. A facilitator could help to point out that although the illustrations portray what it is like in some parts of the country, it could be very different throughout other parts of that country.

I found this book very thought-provoking, both for myself and my 4-year-old boy. The text about what each child does in his day is very simple, but the pictures dramatically illustrate the differences in their lives. "Where is their car? Where are all his toys? Why is their house dark?", my son asked! It's hard for me to explain poverty or why our worlds are so different, but at least now he seems to be a little less focused on "I want that!", since he realizes how much other children of the world NEED. It's worth buying for your family, and would be great for starting classroom discussions as well.

This is a wonderful book to share with children. The illustrations depict stark differences between a little boy in America and a little boy in Africa even though they are doing the same things. This is an excellent teaching tool to use when explaining to children that although we do things in a different way, we are all very much alike.

This book is probly the worst Polish book in existance. It includes very little grammer and has a very confusing format. It's simply bad, bad, bad, bad. Dont make the same mistake I did. DONT BUY THIS BOOK.

This book is well laid out and easy to follow. However, I made a big mistake and ordered the version without the Audio Tapes. If you are beginning to learn Polish DONT FORGET THE TAPES!! Without the tapes, it's easy to become intimidated by the pronunciation, and then become disheartned, like I did..... :(

Teach Yourself has been revising its language books lately, and the improvements have been remarkable. You are now given practical vocabulary and dialogues with which to learn the language, and the series is especially good for tourists or business persons intending to visit the countries where the language is spoken.

Truth be told, however, Polish can be intimidating at first with its unique orthography and pronunciation. The first unit of Teach Yourself Polish will definitely be a challenge unless you've had some Polish before. But, if you're patient, what seems insurmountable at first will eventually become second nature.

The grammar notes are excellent, introducing points in a logical and consistent fashion. Certain points are introduced early and developed more thoroughly later. However, it is sometimes difficult to locate a point that was covered early in the text without thumbing page-by-page through the book since it contains NO index. If you order this book, you should try to obtain the version containing cassettes. Though they are fairly Spartan (presenting, as it were, only half the dialogues covered in the text), they are helpful for pronunciation and intonation.

By the way, this book contains twenty units, not eighteen, as the editorial review indicates.

This book seems incomplete and does little to help Americans with their American accents to pick up on the Polish language and its tone and accent even though it included tapes. Provides basic knowledge but not in a very good format.
