Great Reading
This book was lent to me by a friend who is a physician herself from Harvard Medical School. Anyone interested in neurosurgery as well as general surgery, infectious diseases and preventive medicine would find this book engaging. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to become a physician or who is a physician--it is inspiring and causes one to think about medicine in a whole new light. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down.

The Dream Jar
The book was beautifully illustrated. The author wrote a very readable story that flowed well. Children will be able to have a glimpse of life as an immigrant child. Checked this out with my 10 year old niece and she would recommend the book to others.

Charming! Especially for all big sister/little brother duos
A sweet, imaginative story in which an older sister fantasizes about what wonderful, magical things she would do if she were queen of the world. But more than what the title would suggest, is the true message of the story- her love for her little brother, as she never forgets to include him in each and evey thought and fantasy that she creates along the way. The love, patience, and compassion that she feels for her brother shine through, even though she remains very much a little girl and typical big sister through and through. My daughter and son loved holding hands while I read to them. I didn't mind being asked to read it again and again.

not just for theologists
What a wonderful book! As an interested layperson with no background in philosophy or ethics, I've been trying to answer the question "What, exactly, does it mean to live a moral (Christian) life?". While this clear and highly readable book isn't meant to give superficially pat answers of the Chicken-Soup-for-the-Soul genre, its thorough explaination and assessment of the dramatic changes of thought of one of the most influential Christian theologians of our time allowed me to understand why Roman Cathohlics currently believe what they (we) beieve and how they got there. This book, while not taking sides, gave me the background to think more productively and clearly about my question.

A Llama in the Library
This book is about a 5th grader, Adam, and his feelings for a new girl that moves into town. It's also about Adam's idea to get his moms llamas to the towns library remodel celebration. The focus seemed to much on Adams feelings for a girl and not enough about the llamas in the title. I felt that it's not appropriate for kids in the 4th grade and under, but to young for older kids. The title will attract kids to read it, but once I read the book I felt it was deceiving. It contains black and white illustrations, and would be 5th grade level reading.

My Father's Hands

A book that touches the essence of fatherhood
In this book, where a young father shows his garden world to his daughter, one touches both the magical and the spiritual. Neither is mentioned, but both are there in the rich prose and wonderful paintings. The children I watched hearing it were caught up in the magic and the wonder of the discoveries. And they were quiet with my tears when I read of the dirt that never quite ever washed off the young father's hands. I was remembering my own father's hands that never quite ever lost that earthy stain. Would that every father-to-be recieve a copy of this work that exemplifies the ultimate essence of fatherhood - that "nothing in my father's hands would ever hurt me."

The ONE business book that consultants hope you WON'T read!
Ready reference to help managers quickly perform effective organizational diagnosis related to the most common performance issues and problem areas. Based on a preliminary problem diagnosis, managers are then guided through a step-by-step process that identifies possible causes, recommends appropriate corrective actions, and even provides sufficient information to understand each possible action. Also serves as an excellent tool to use in conducting a "sanity-check" prior to implementation of planned actions. From validation of "hunches" to discovering which problems AND solutions are costly or difficult to implement or which are simply quick fixes vs. long-term solutions, this book can help managers decide what they can fix with and without outside assistance. If your organization uses management consultants, this is the ONE business book that could save you from unnecessary consulting fees or can be used to validate any recommended approach prior to committing the "big bucks."

Beautifully written, precious story with important lessons
I bought this book for my five-year-old niece, and she loves to have me read it to her whenever she comes to visit. The wonderfully told story about a blind girl's sleepover weekend gives parents and kids lots of important topics to talk about and explore, including not being afraid of the dark, and how everyone is special and capable in their own way, even if they have a physical disability such as blindness. With its beautiful illustrations and valuable life lessons, this book belongs in the library of every child.
