Henry Explores the Mountians ~ Mark Taylor
This is a very adventurous book. It shows how little kids can prove themselves responsible. It shows how young children, know ho to act in scary situations. Some people have to learn that young children can be trusted, but they should be able to prove themsleves first. Sometimes young kids just want to grow up, so they wanbt to explore and learn how to do things for themselves.

I like the character Henry in this book. When Henry and his dog sent out on a journey to explore the mountians, they do not know what to expect. They have a good time exploring and take extra precautions. They meet some friendly and unfriendly characters, yet they know how to handle the situations. Henry takes controll of the bad situation and turns it into a learning experience. This book teaches a lot about how to act when on a journey. It also shows how kids get regconized for the good deeds they do.

History's Cold Shadow
In this bleak novel Elizabeth Gaskell deftly weaves a dark thread of history into her narrative tapestry. While war hovers on the margins of the novel, no one is left unaffected by its horror. After a sometimes painfully slow setup of domestic life in the seaside town of Monkshaven in the first third of the book, the sense of doom grows increasingly palpable. Sylvia, the novel's heroine, is isolated by her supposedly protective domestic sphere, but Gaskell shatters the delicate domestic circle that surrounds her. While Sylvia is left to bear emotional scars, becoming an impassive, hardened woman, Charley Kinraid, her true love, returns from war a ghost, haunting the margins of Monkshaven to hide his terrible physical scars. The full realization of the blight on Sylvia's life comes when the novel spirals down to its inevitable conclusion, where even reconciliation and understanding brings a powerful sense of loss.

Insightful, historical, and best of all true!
The Bible is the best selling book in the world. And it should be since it is God's written word to His people. But how many people actually know where we got the Bible? Well, the answer to this question might surprise you. Especially if you are a Protestant Christian. In this book, the author does a fantastic job explaining how God used the Catholic Church to determine what should be in the Bible as well as protect the completed Bible for almost 2,000 years. The historical facts are clear: that the Catholic Church is the true Bible Church! However, this will not sit well for Protestant Christians or to those who hate the Catholic Church (like the few people who poorly rated this book before me). Why? Well, to rely on the Catholic Church for anything, especially something as important as the canon of the Bible, is unthinkable for Protestant Christians. This book methodically goes through history and demonstrates that the answer to the question, "Where did we get the Bible?" is "from the Catholic Church!" But wait, if God used the Catholic Church to formulate and protect the Bible, that would mean that the Catholic Church was divinely protected by God. And this is what does not sit well for the enemies of the Catholic Church. But never the less, the truth is out there and this book is one tool that can help you find it. The Bible didn't fall from Heaven. Discover its origins!
Reverend Henry G. Graham provides a compelling examination of Scripture and how it came to be as we now know it. The picture that emerges is that while divinely inspired it is the work of human tradition.

This excellent resource explains how the Church compiled the New Testament Canon, the work of the Monks of the early Church, refutes the Protestant argument of the "Bible alone", and explains some of the erroneous Protestant versions of the Bible.

The book also includes Reverend Graham's own conversion story "From the Kirk to the Catholic Church" which the original version does not contain.

No religious bookshelf can be complete without this title.

Although not credited, I served as a freelance editor on the reprinting of this book.

The Catholic Church gave the world the Bible
An accurate and concise account on how the Bible came to be. Shows how the Catholic Church has defended holy scripture throughout the ages, despite the accusations of protestants and the Church's enemies. Accurately describes the rise and fall of badly translated protestant Bibles such as Tyndale's Bible (the english translation of Luther's Bible), the sinner's Bible (ommitted the word 'not' from some of the ten Commandments), etc. The English Crown ordered these versions burned or destroyed by decree when the errors were found. Errors and additions that have been handed down until this day (such as the addition of the word 'alone' by Luther to maneuver justification, and the addition of 'for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory.....'). This book is a must have for anyone wishing to learn which books were originally contained in the Canon of scripture and who put them there. Shows why the books of the Septuagint (referred to as the Apocrypha by protestants) are included in the Bible, and were in the Jewish Canon during the time of Jesus.

Good, but not amazing
This book has a really good, funny plot. I loved a lot! However, i did find that it was a bit unclear at times. But generally, it's a great book. I strongly recommend it!

A funny, yet nice, reading book
I read this book for my English classes, but, I have to admit, without any interest. But when I went further on reading I liked it a lot. Having read more than 30 books in English [Including Hamlet, Romeo & Juliette, etc.] I must say that THIS IS THE PERFECT BOOK FOR EVERY ENGLISH STUDENT! [At least if you study English as a foreign language]...

Is there a 0 star rating??
This is one of the worst technical books I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. The book contains typos in command line examples, very poor use of font and face changes, really cheesy ASCII art "illustrations", some of which are actually broken over two pages. The information presented does not really leave the reader enlightened although one could perhaps suggest this is a problem with the reader....

Overall, the book has it all - poor content and exceedingly poor presentation.

Specific examples of errors:

* Fig 8.1 broken over two pages

* Paragraph 8.3 contains the phrase "to the printer scribe." with no indication that "scribe" is a proper name as opposed to some imagined printer part.

* page 125 includes an example of a command wherein the option "-P" should be "-p"

The book is riddled with these kinds of problems.

It's history now, but it was one of the few I kept.
Yes, this is 2.0 history, but I liked this book & still use it.
It was one of the few books I kept on my "active" shelf.
The author also writes (wrote?) lots of great Unix magazine articles. "RIP". my old friend book.
