The Concise Book of Mitzvoth was written to group together theBiblical commandments that are applicable today. The book includesdiscussion about belief in God, shabbos, and kashrus. Sections about kindness are favorites of the author, as are the themes of self improvement.

The Chofetz Chaim is beloved in the Jewish world as a phenomonal personality who personified Jewish unity and kindness.

Golda Meir, an example of courage, strength and compassion
This book about one of the great political leaders of the 20th century is one of the very few documented stories of Gold Meir that are currently in print - which is a great shame.

However, thanks to Deborah Hitzeroth, the life and times of Golda Meir are available for young and old alike to read for themselves the remarkable stories about a person whom, in my view at least, has been one of the great influences on peoples perception of world politics...

Milwaukee's Golden Star
It was a true delight to read this biography of Golda Meir. I've lived in Milwaukee for all but four of my 31 years of life, and I've never known much about this stellar woman. I was amazed to learn that she even fasted at age 5 as part of a protest!

It was especially fun to read the Milwaukee references, including her family's arrival. When I read about her school experiences, I pictured her at her elementary school (now called Golda Meir School) just north of downtown Milwaukee. No wonder it's now a school for gifted and talented children!

The drama of Golda Meir's life makes for a powerful story, which Deborah Hitzeroth nicely captures and complements with photos, background info and Golda's own words. As cliche as it might sound, Golda's story is an example of the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles and accompish amazing feats.

A COLLECTION OF GOSSIP
Golda Meir was a remarkable woman, but you would never be able to tell by this book. If you want to learn more about her, read a better book than this (almost any book is), like one by her son, or one by her friend, or one by herself. This book is very unsubjective and is based on superficial rumors. It is basically a collection of gossip in disguise as a book.

What's wrong with quoting those around her
The previous "reviewer" contradicts him/herself when claiming that the book was very "unsubjective" and based on rumors. Did s/he mean subjective? What's wrong with quoting those around her anyway? Why would an immediate relative have to write the book, as that reviewer argues? Ralph Martin is a professional and does a fine job here.

As Nomadism Ends: The Israeli Bedouin of the Negev

Not quite...
The nomadism of the Bedouin in the Negev was stripped by Israel policy. Now they are finding that their culture and way of life is unacceptable in Israel. This book hinds the true facts. I would not recomend it.

The book is wildly off track, poor characterization overall
The author did not have to go very far to make substantial errors in this book, The title itself is an error, since these Bedouins are Palestinians, and not Israeli's (They would take great offense to being called Israeli's. This author is definately an outsider looking in.

Academic Literature
Considering Bedouin serve in special units in the Israeli army, I hardly believe they are as biased as the Gush Emunim settlers who treat them like animals in the Negev. This book is fair, and concise, written by someone who is very careful to convey the facts. I find it amusing an outsider labels the author of this book an "outsider" considering the fact that major settlements in the Negev are of outsiders that began with Jewish Zionist settlement in the 1920s and 1930s and was intensified in the 1940s and 1950s. The book, however, is not overly bogged down with the polarization of ethnocentrist antagonism, it does provide the reader with the Bedouin societal evolution under the Ottomans, then the British, and currently under the Israelis since 1948. Avinoam Meir is an academic and professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Development and The Negev Center for Regional Development at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva. Hardly an outsider. He has published several papers on Bedouin and certainly knows the subject without romanticizing the Bedouin as other authors tend to do. An excellent read!

"America" by Joseph Stalin would have given same results
This book was not written by Meir Kahane as you indicate -with Thomas Friedman as a contributor ! (To insinuate that these two people will collaborate on a book or anything else is like putting George W.Bush and Al Sharpton working together !) but rather this is a book written solely by Friedman a pathological Kahane-hater. Thomas Friedman decided to write a book against Kahane in addition to the numerous anti-Kahane and anti-Israel articles he wrote for the NY Times.
Facts and truth are bended to portray Kahane as a monster. The title is already a give-away.
Although there may be 10% of truth in this book, it's mostly garbage.
How objectif can this book be when people who read the NY Times or people who are interested in Israel knows Friedman to be a super-leftist, pro-Palestinian, furiously opposed to Jews in general and right-wings Jews in particular (the fact that Friedman is himself a Jew is only a sad commentary on his mental health.
I reccomend that before reading a book about Meir Kahane written by an oppenly Kahane-hater, you should read a book actually written by Kahane, it make more sense. I reccomend the Story of the JDL. It reads like a novel, with a lot of facts about the 70's era. I also suggest that this mistake (written by Kahane) is removed immediately. It is not only false advertisement, deception, it is also insulting and even slanderous to insinuate that Kahane has anything to do with this virulent anti-Kahane book that was quote extensively during the trial by the lawyer defending his murderer.

lies, but at least its got pictures
This book is all hating. The authors virulent hatred of Kahane is apparent from page one. Nonetheless the book was a godsend for me because no other biographies exist of the Rabbi. SO I learned much by reading this book. Which each new starling accusation by the author I became more impressed by Mr. Kahane. Here was a man who wanted to teach Jews to be tough. Here was a man who understood the evils of Islam and dared to speak. Did the JDL plant a few bombs and beat up a few Muslims, did they intimidate a few black(who were out to kill Jews)? SO what! Everytime I read that Kahane had encited his men to attack a black panther or a communist or a Muslim I became more interested. For years the Blacks and the Muslims and the Communists have gotten away with perpetrating liews and terror against peaceful Jews. Not unlike the Nazis. Here was a man who told the Jews to stand tall with a gun in their hand. Did they blow up a PLO supporter? If they did then Im glad because the PLO is a terrorist organization and its time that we unleash some terror on them. Why is it when a Jew strikes back we are repulsed? WHy is it when a Black kills a Jew or a Muslim Kills a Jew we must understand his culture and not critisize? No. Mr. Kahane stodd tall and he was revered and he was killed for his beleifs.
Read this book because its the only of its kind. Just dont beleive the authors lies. Was Mr. Kahane repulsed because blacks and Muslims wanted to pray on Jewish girls? Yes. Arn't you? Mr. Kahane, no matter how bad, was a neccesary evil.
