Love Whoopi, Love her BOOK.
Guess you gotta love it or hate it
Wow. After reading all the previous reviews, I guess you either love or hate this book. I thought it was one of the better books in the comedian-as-author genre. I could have done without quite so much toilet humor, but hey, she's a comedian, that's what they do. She wasn't trying to write the Great American Novel here. The fact that she used a ghost writer didn't bother me at all. I didn't know she had until she said so at the end of the book. The book sounded like Whoopi to me. If she needed someone's help in organizing it into a viable manuscript, so what? And as much as it pains me to say it, I have to agree with Entertainment Weekly. Whoopi, please consider writing your autobiography.
Whoopi keeps you laughing in this straightforward funny book
Whoopi Goldberg is one of the best commediennes of our time, and "Book" reflects her "tells it like it is" humor with wit and style. Whoopi talks to you about various topics such as marriage, childhood, relationships, eggs, religion and many others. Yes, there is some profanity, but that's Whoopi. If you love Whoopi, you'll love this book. Buy it today!

I'd like to see another one.
I found Whoopi Goldberg's life to be interesting (dare I say even inspiring?). I commend this biography because it provides plenty of details and Parish backs up his factual account of her life with lots of quotes from Whoopi. But I was really annoyed by how often he mentioned he doesn't think she's good-looking. Also, he sometimes offers long descriptions of movies she herself didn't think much of, but then shorts others like The Long Walk Home. Passable, but there's room for another book or more about this remarkable woman we seem to know so much and so little about all at the same time.

I'm Catholic but her opinions of the popes, both past and present, are totally on the mark and not offensive to anyone who has any awareness of what's going on in Rome. Read with an open mind. Whether you agree or not, Ms. Goldberg's opinions will freshen up your thoughts on a lot of subjects.
It does ramble on like one of her stand-up monologues, which is what I love so much about it. I also recommend the audiobook version so you can hear Whoopi reading her own words.
This is not high literature, I admit. But it is fresh and humorous and one of my all-time fun reads. I even named my web site after her cute name for a fart. Tree Monkey . Net
