Silly and Fun
Third in the Zoot Marlowe series, and the same as the rest: great pun-filled names, snappy "gum-shoe" patter, and a mystery set in near-future Malibu that you can solve yourself. A wonderful follow-up to Surfing Samuari Robots and Hawaiian UFO Aliens. You know you're in for fun when the first name of "Whipper" Will's dad turns out to be "Iron."

Caught in the starship trap
One of the more enjoyable Trek novels out there, The Starship Trap features some decent Spock/McCoy banter and a story that starts out slowly but picks up to a satisfying conclusion. The highlight of the novel, however, is Kirk's struggle with his own libido as he finds himself trying to charm a woman he dislikes solely because she's a "hottie."

Otherwise, The Starship Trap is typical Trek. There is a brief moment, when the Enterprise finds herself trapped in a universe with different physical laws than our own, for some real science to inject itself, but that opportunity is squandered as Spock solves all problems off-camera. What remains is the usual mindless, harmless entertainment.

not another visiting, anoying, female and critical digitary
As you can see in the title, I'm not amused by yet another plotline which features a visiting dignitary-with-pretentions. I was also bored by plotdivises as the hidden political agenda's and well kept secrets, that are used to send the Enterprise on it's mission. That's not what Star Trek is about (IMVHO)

But then, on page 95, the book starts again (or at last) with a surprise and a bang. All at once there is a real antagonist, a real plotline, with tension of it's own, and a danger to avert not only for the Enterprise, but for Starfleet as a whole. And the dignitary turns out to be not half as bad, as she had seemed all these pages.

So: this is not the best of books. Do not recomment it to non-Trekkies, 'cause - after reading this - they'll never believe Star trek is fun. But if you have patience and perseverance, than there's a good chance you'll at least enjoy the second half of the book.

Star Trek- TOS: The Starship Trap
Star Trek- The Original Series: The Starship Trap written by Mel Gilden is a character driven book. The author writes in detail and develops the charaters over the first 80 pages so, it's slow moving until you get to the surprise.

This book is a Kirk book first and foremost. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise must prevent the galaxy from all out full-scale war. You see not only Federation ships are missing, but so are Romulan, Klingon and a whole host of other ship are not reporting in or arriving at their destinations.

Now, the mystrey is afoot, as Kirk tries to get to the crux of the matter. There is intrigue at the diplomatic reception as the Enterprise is en route, but the Klingon's intercept the Enterprise and demand answers. But, the crafty Kirk manages to get a truce with the Klingons. There is plenty of suspense, intrigue, skullduggery, and scheming in this book after the character development.

I can't give away any more to the plot or you'll figure out the ending. Read this book as it is vintage Kirk trying to save the galaxy.

Holodeck Gone Bad
This is a nice book if you like Wesley Crusher and "holodeck gone bad" scenarios. It tries to expand with a story about a Federation exologist who attempts to erase himself from Starfleet records. All in all I felt it was a little too much at once.

the strangest wesley book possible
I remember reading it when it first came out(making me about 10 yrs old) and all I could think was this is EXACTLY what little kids fears about boogymen are, they will take over and you can't tell reality from the holodeck(or get out of the holodeck as the case maybe)

ST-TNG: Boogeymen
Star Trek - The Next Generation: Boogeyman written by Mel Gilden is a Wesley Crusher novel along with an interesting computer race that uses the humanoid brain for warp propulsion.

A holodeck experiment that goes bad for Wesley Crusher after Data compiles a holodeck program called boogeymen and an exologist by the name of Eric Baldwin one of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's oldest most trusted friends wants Picard to erase all traces of his existence get crossed in the Starship Enterprise's computer and cause real problems for the Enterprise crew.

This is a well fleshed out story that will keep you on your toes as things really start to heat up for the Enterprise crew as the boogeymen pay a visit to the Enterprise. If you like stories about what can go wrong this is the story for you.

There are two stories that eventually blend into one major mess for the Enterprise as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and crew try hard to find out what has gone awry with the Enterprise computer. As they work their way through the ship, problems become suddenly dangerous and the boogeymen assassins lurk around every corner of the Enterprise and they want to win at all costs.

You'll find light mystery and intrigue in this story but the story moves rather quickly and you can finish this book in one setting as Wesley begins to grow up. And the messes that he creates cause Picard headaches.

This is a solid 4 star book as it is well-written and will keep your interest till the end and the ending is something that you will not suspect.

Harry Newberry and the Raiders of The Red Drink
Harry Newberry and the Raiders of the Red Drink was a confusing book. Harry thought his mom was a super hero. I did not like the book because it made no sense at all. It was about super heroes who tried to conquer bad people by drinking "Red Drink." I didn't like the story because it seemed to be written by a kid for a kid. Like the author made up a character named, "Pete Zamansky, he maneuvers." Who worked at a pizza place, he made pizzas with toppings forming a map of some made up planet. Where did they come up with that? So the whole time Harry and his "Super Hero friends," are trying to find out who the evil people are and how they can defeat them. At the end they finally figure out who the people are, but I can't tell you anymore because that would ruin it for you. Then again, I kind of enjoyed the book a little bit because some of the stuff that was so crazy, like people's names that the author made up was kind of funny. So I think the book did have a good side. It was just my opinion that it wasn't the best book in the world, but you never know, you might like it.

This book will spark a seven year old's interest in reading
This book was so funny. Here's a book that a parent can enjoy "reading to" while your child enjoys "listening to." Just wait til you see how much your child remembers as this book moves along. The blend of humor in this book (e.g. "Pete Zamansky, he maneuvers," runs a pizza in the form of maps store selling very useful day old pizza.) with a good working knowledge of the way mothers and sons relate, mixed with a superhero genre,is really rather unique. Picture Ray Bradbury meets Roald Dahl meets Superwoman. Please put this book back in print.

blah!
I couldn't get past the first ten pages. I know it is fiction, but it was to the point of rediculous.

A cute book
This is a very cute story -- I found myself laughing in different spots, really very cute stuff. It's about this girl, a die-hard Britney fan, who wins a radio contest and gets backstage tickets to her concert, only to see Britney abducted by aliens who want to use the singer's charisma and charm to take over the world, so she takes it upon herself to save both Britney AND the world, in that order.

If you want light summer reading (I finished it in a day), then definitely pick this up. I'm 28 and a big fan of pop music, and don't mind young adult reading. It's a clean story and Britney Spears is treated with respect throughout the story -- it doesn't bash her in any way. Those of you who have never been obsessed with a celebrity in that way that teenaged girls(heh, and older ones, such as myself) seem to have may find the narrator's rambles about Britney annoying or unbelievable, and at times the plot is a bit forced, but overall the writing is very flowing and easy to follow, and the characters are likeable enough.

This is great for Britney fans of all ages. The teenie in you will love it.

Entertaining
While the title of the book may make you turn away, the content is amusing and you just don't want to put the book down. The book is cute about two friends in their teens following around an alien who has overtaken Britney's body. I recommend this book for pop music fans who don't want to take this book too seriously.
