Great Reference
Not only does it fit in your pocket quite easily, it is a great help to have. As a pharmacy student, I must have the answers at the tips of my fingers if they aren't on the tip of my tongue. And this reference definately helps! Its organized to easily find the condition or bug that you are looking for to find the first line or other therapy. Other sections allow the reader to find comparisons and interactions between medications. A great book to have on hand in any hospital or long term care facility.

Great title, great book
This book has enough quotes to be called GK's greatest hits. The author does a great job of giving us the big picture of a big guy and his big faith in our big (that is, universal) Church. If you're a GK reader, you'll love this book. If you're not a GK reader, read this book and you will be. This book also happens to serve as a very fine book on Catholic apologetics in its own right.

An hilarious, lively, whimsical story for young readers.
Gael Cresp's Tale Of Gilbert Alexander Pig presents a whimsical take-off on the three little pigs: here Gilbert has a coveted trumpet and the wolf not only wants to knock down his house, but wants to toot the horn himself. A hilarious encounter pits the two against one another.

Portable, concise and informative, and very handy
Not as exhaustive as the guides on antimicrobials released by Mandell or Bartlett, but definitely easy to carry around during rounds. The authors also make every effort to list down important references and pertinent articles relevant to the information they provide, to allow for more in-depth reading afterwards. Definitely a must-have for internists and even infectious disease specialists.

Good Pocket Guide
This book offer a practical guided to the management of the patient with an infectious disease. It is up dated yearly and has the most up to date information. See also, Sanford HIV guide

Quick guide for clinicians and residents
A very useful book for day-to-day use and consulting. I carry it with me all the time!

Lovely stories, but hilarious?
I've had a lovely time reading these brooding stories. They certainly do their best to get "under the skin" of normal human situations, and most of them succeed admirably. David Gilbert has a rmarkable ear for dialogue, and he is able to paint "word pictures" which place us at the scene. His greatest achievement, in my opinion, is the ambiguity he manages to bring to such minutely-detailed places and situations. You are welcome to find any means of identification you can with his characters, and that, in my book, is great writing. But this is certainly not a hilarious book. Eveb if you sometimes laugh out loud, I doubt comedy is the main concept here. These are sensitive thoughts about the human condition, forays into chartered territory which still seems new (because of the author's talent). The hilarity other reviewers have pointed to was beyond me. however, great book and much potential. Read and wait for his future works.

The next Leo Tolstoy!!!!!!
The book hasn't come out yet, but I have read his stories in magazines and workshops. Knew him from grad school in Montana. (This is Richard Nunez, David, if you happen to read this). I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by his progress since '94 and '95. He's showing great promise. I highly recommend the book if the other stories are as good, or better than, "Remote Feed," "Graffiti," and one I believe is titled "Still Life with Enormous Foot," or something like it. The stories are mysterious, weighty, bizarre, poignant, and sometimes eerie. You'll even chuckle out loud a few times. Pick it up! This review may sound subjective, but I was honest about my rating. Good work, David.

The best book I've read all day
As long as the old workshop is checking in, I must say that 10 is simply not large enough to describe "Remote Feed": this book goes to 11. If you like Stanley Elkin, Francine Prose, even the comic Nabokov; if you like pina coladas, walks in the rain; if you like big cigars and the style section of the New York Times, you will love David Gilbert. Of course it's because of all the advice I gave him in grad school, but that's immaterial; he'll take all the credit for himself and I can live with that. But the next Tolstoy, Richard? We all know Dave's facial hair is far too spotty to make him the next Tolstoy.

Excellent guide, somewhat difficult to get used to
The Sanford Guide is a well-known pocket guide that every medical professional should have, from third year medical students on up. It is concise and easy to carry around. My only complaint is that its use is not entirely intuitive and takes time to get used to. It updates yearly so it's guaranteed to be current, but that also means you must buy a new one yearly. It is too bad you cannot order the protective plastic cover with it via Amazon.

Black Mirror: The Selected Poems of Roger Gilbert-Lecomte

Original poems lost in translation
I won't doubt the heart-rending task, or major headache, in trans -lating one of the finest poets of this century. And I thank David Rattray, whose translation of Artaud are wonderfully done, for finally introducing such refined spirit as Gilbert-Lecomte to an English-speaking public. The book, as such, is fine: lovely cover-design, explicit introduction, and clever selection of poems. What else is needed? A new translation!

Excellent Poet, Good Translation
Dark, Surreal Poetry. Written by Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, translated from French. Each page is layed out with the French translation on the left, and the English on the right. The original spacing is kept, which is critical, because the placement of the text adds so much to the flow of the reading. Lecomte was scoffed by surrealists at the time in France. He died from Tetnis, jabbing a opium needle through his dirty trowsers. His close friend gathered what works he could find, and have since come into the collected works remaining of Lecomte.

cornerstone of literature
This is one of the top two must have poetry books of all time hands down. It rests right beside The flowers of evil.

Another excellent step in High School Latin Pedagogy!
Following the precident set by Ecce Romani I, Ecce Romani II is another excellent step in Latin Pedagogy. My high school Latin II (the last two thirds of the year) and Latin III(three quarters of the year) used this text to finish up the major corpus of Latin grammar. I feel that this series is an excellent pedagogical step in making the different logical system of Latin more accessible.

This text cements the concepts of Latin into the minds of its users. I have found myself in my Ecclesiastical Latin courses at the seminary (which is part of my college's complex) having an easy time recalling grammar and vocabulary because this text helped me very much in learning fully the Latin language.

As with Ecce Romani I, my only qualm with Ecce Romani II is that it tends to take a long time to teach concepts. For rapid learning of the Language (which requires extremely devoted study), I suggest John F. Collins' "Primer of Ecclesiastical Latin". However, if you are not in a complete rush to learn Latin, I suggest buying the teacher's edition of this book, if possible (for independent study) because it is built on a very sound pedogogical foundation.
