A real gem!
This book turned out to be so much more than I had hoped, containing information on all aspects of the Shadow. The book begins with Gibson's excellently written history of his writing of the shadow stories, has a list of Shadow novels, shows Shadow covers (many in color!), discusses the Shadow's agents, shows illustrations, and then has a never before published Shadow story: The Riddle of the Rangoon Ruby! Then the book covers the Shadow radio show, includes a list of all broadcasts, and has the scripts of two broadcasts (The Death House Rescue-1937, and the White Legion-1938). Then the Shadow movies are covered, and the Shadow comics; including a whole comic adventure entitled the Mystery of the Sealed Box. Finally there are notes on codes used by the Shadow, and various old-time Shadow merchandise.

See? Everything you could want! This is book is a real gem, and must have for any Shadow fan. I enjoyed Gibson's story of writing the Shadow beyond anything I could have imagined, and absolutely loved the Rangoon Ruby. I sincerely hope that they someday reissue this book.

Nothing up my sleeve AND....Ooops
As an amateur magician I can say this is the best magic book I have ever come across. There are many beginner through advanced type tricks. So what ever your level of experience you will learn something.

A word of warning, make sure you read all of the associated material before attempting a trick. I did not do so and Noodles, our pet cocker spaniel, is still missing. Unfortunately so is the magic book. The family eagerly awaits the replacement text I've ordered. Per my attorney, I am not at liberty to discuss the "sawing a body in half" trick but please be careful.

Enjoy!

Magic for All
A wonderful magic book for the young and old alike, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic is a sure bet. With over 2,000 easy to follow pictures and 300 magic tricks, this is a must for every magician's library ;)

A must have.
For the person just starting out, or even someone who is seasoned in the skills of magic, this book is a must have. It's easy to understand without being 'overly simplified'. In other words, the tricks included are actually good. No silly, unusable stuff, just good magic ranging from self working to advanced. Get this book if you enjoy magic.

Great basic information
This book gives anyone interested in the occult a brief description on everything from numberology to tarot cards. If you're intrested in the occult but it all seems like black cats and witches, this is the book for you. It even tells you how to do a tarot card reading with regular playing cards. Also covers the basics of palm reading, with plenty of drawings to make sure you're looking at the affection lines and not the opposition lines, no joke!

Knots and how to tie them

Junk
Maybe 40 years ago this passed for a book on knots, not today. With so many good books about knots and ropework available, there is absolutely no reason to get this one. I felt cheated out of my money when I actually started to go through the book in detail. The illustrations don't match the text, and in some cases are just plain wrong. I collect books on ropework, knots and rigging and currently own dozens. This is the first one I considered throwing away.

Disappointing
A good selection of knots, but some illustrations have errors. Other problems: there is a picture of each knot as it's being laid, but not of the knot as it appears when dressed (tightened) -- this can make a huge difference for some of them. Also, the text doesn't tell you how to use the knot, what it's good for, or when you might want to use it.

This is not a bad intro book, all in all, but I'd be happier with something more thorough, better illustrated, and with more detailed text.

Rope in Hand, I Opened the Cover......
This book was originally published in 1961 and I suspect, parts of it appeared in "The Boy Scout Handbook" during the 60's. It covers a large variety of knots and tricks, too. Each subject is accompanied by hand drawn pictures of the knot being described as well as a clear description of how to tie it. Two rope knots are illustrated with one dark and one light strand to make them clearer. Uses and nicknames of the various knots are also included. The knots are divided into sections in the book, arranged by similarity of application.

This is a great reference for anyone who works with rope, from a Boy Scout to a Sailor. Teamsters all use ratcheting nylon straps now, but the original method of tieing down with ropes can be learned in this book. There are knots for Cowboys, Fishermen and Magicians. Even Decorators could learn a few fancy knots here. There are dozens of knots here for many purposes.

When you order this book, get a rope, or two!
