Okay book
This was an okay book, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. If I like a book I can usually finish it in a day or two this one took a couple of weeks for me to read it didn't hold my attention. The book starts with a wedding were the bride has been stood up at the altar. When she leaves the church it is blown up by a bomb that was set to go off in the middle of the ceremony. Who was it meant for and why is the main theme of the book. I found it to be a really slow read and didn't really care what happened to the characters.

Earlier Attempt By A Great Author!! Really Worth Reading!
Since I have only read Ms. Gerritsen's newer works such as "The Surgeon" and "The Apprentice" it was fun to read one of her earlier works and to see how far she has come as a storyteller.

This is the story about Nina Cormier who is a ER nurse from a very affluent but dysfunctional family. The story opens with Nina being left at the alter. To add insult to injury while she is sitting in a car waiting to go home the church blows up. And still in the same day someone tries to drive her off the road. Why is this all happening to her?

Bomb detective Sam Navarro is called to the scene of the latest bombing and ends up questioning the bride to be. Sam has his own problems from the past and really has no plans to ever share his life with someone else. Now he finds himself drawn to the witness and there is still the huge mystery as to how Nina fits into the puzzle of the recent bombing, and other murder attempts.

The chemistry between these two people was great and Ms. Gerritsen shows her potential as a suspense novelist. You don't want to miss this one.

TESS GERRITSEN DOES IT AGAIN
I STARTED OUT WITH THE SURGEON AND COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I MOVED ON TO THE APPRENTICE AND IT HAD THE SAME EFFECT. I ORDERED 5 MORE OF HER BOOKS INCLUDING KEEPER OF THE BRIDE WHICH I READ IN JUST 2 SITTINGS. HER BOOKS CONSISTENTLY KEEP MY ATTENTION. HER WRITING MAKES ME SYMPATHIZE WITH THE CHARACTERS AND FEEL EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE FEELING. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HER BOOKS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'LL DO WHEN I FINISH THE OTHER FOUR!

Not bad for a romantic suspense book
The reading of In Their Footsteps (Old Secrets Die Hard), which is by Nanette Savard, not the author, unless it's a pseudonym, wasn't bad. She handled the accents fairly well (British & French) and she kept the story moving along. I didn't know if I'd like such an audio, but I did, and I don't know if I'd listen to or read any of Ms. Gerritsen's other books, but this one wasn't bad at all. If you can find it (in an out-of-print site or store) check it out. It certainly is better than most of the run of the mill romances and mysteries (think Harlequin).

I'm sorry, but...
The thing is, I picked up this book after throughoutfully enjoying Gerritsen's medical thrillers (I figured they'd feature the same gripping story-telling) but what I found was a lukewarm novel, filled with two-dimensional characters and a terribly boring plot. The ending was nice, but it wasn't enough to save this book.

So... If you read Gerritsen's medical thrillers (Bloodstream, Harvest, etc...) don't expect the same kind of plot, characters or narration in here.

Guilty of being stupid
Miranda had an affair with a married man. Her was stabbed to death in her bed. The police believe they have found the murderer. Miranda. Someone secretly posts Miranda's bail and now someone is trying to kill her. Enters her ex-lover's brother, he was certain that Miranda was guilty. But when he discovers someone is trying to kill her and there's more to the story than what it seems he starts to believe in her innocence and trys to find the murderer. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 was the story was too predictible.

Very Very good book!!
This book was very suspensful! I read this in about 2 days. I highly recomend this book!!

not as advertised
based on the writing, this book should be in the 'romance' section. while the plot is engaging, it is only superficially worked out and the characters have no depth. the writing is pure mass romance with men with hard bodies and fainting women being rescued, at the last minute of course.

good - BUT
This book is a good romantic adventure originally published as a Harlequin Intrigue. I wish that it had been orginally stated that this book was a Harlequin Intrigue published in 1987, it might stop someone from making a duplicate purchase.

Suspense!!!!
Synopsis: A ringing phone in the middle of the night shakes newlywed Sarah Fontaine awake. Expecting her husband's call from London she hears instead an unfamiliar voice. Nick O'Hara from the U.S. State Department is calling with devastating news: Geoffrey Fontaine, Sarah's husband of two months, died in a hotel fire...in Berlin. Convinced her husband is still alive, Sarah forces a confrontation with Nick that finds them crisscrossing Europe on a desperate search for Geoffrey. Trying to stay one heartbeat ahead of a dangerous killer, they become quarry in the clandestine world of international espionage, risking everything for answers that may prove fatal.

Nick and Sarah make a great combo! The suspense was awesome...I had to stay up all night to finish it. I just could not put the book down.

A disappointment
There's usually a reason that a bestselling author's early novels are NOT famous -- they're simply not as good. I've enjoyed most of Tess Gerritsen's other novels, but this one frustrated me with its sappy, bad-Harlequin-romance atmosphere. Although they are supposedly intelligent, mature adults, the two leads behaved like none too bright, naive yo-yos. Granted, there were a few good surprises, but all of the characters were pretty one dimensional. This may be partly due to the book's shorter length (i.e., if you cram in lots of plot developments, something's got to go). I always feel guilty about panning an author's hard work, yet I also want to spare a reader hours of unsatisfying effort. I finished reading this book because I'm stubborn, but I'd advise others to skip it and stick with her later works.

First two-thirds a nail-biter, but lost focus towards end.
I really enjoyed this book for the first two-thirds. I couldn't put it down. But the last third seemed to focus on the new lovers relationship, with constant game-playing and testing their love. The leaving and coming back and then threatening to leave, and "do you really want me to stay" left me thinking these people are pretty stupid. Sorry Tess, I've loved everything else you've written.

Mrs. Gerritsen has done it again
Yes, she has certainly done it again. This book was very good. The romance and mystery were excellent. I have never read a bad book by Mrs. Gerritsen. I hope she keeps them coming. I for one am very glad she left the medical profession to become an author.

Not her best, but worth the price for paperback
I am a big fan of Harvest which is why I bought Peggy Sue. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Apparently Tess tried out romance before she moved over to medical thrillers and this is a sad mix of Harlequin romance with just a little bit of thrill worked in the story. If you are looking for a book that is more romance than I would rec. reading this one. But if you are searching for a larger quantity of medical info & thrills...keep on searching. Tess is heading in the right direction (as seen in Harvest & Bloodstream) but needs to get past the mushy romance angle. Final thought: It's not her best work, but with paperbacks it's worth the price.

A thriller that promises action and mystery
A medical examiner, discovers an eerie trend to the victims of a unknown drug overdose. A journey in search of truth leads to a discovery of deception and manipulation.

Gerritsen constructs this thriller skillfully and delves into the vulnerabilities of the character. An enjoyable read!!!!

Heatwave
I thought that this was a good collection of stories. I'm a fan of these authors and it was nice to see them all in one place. Miller's Part of the Bargain was a good story, I liked the character development. I hadn't read anything by Tess Gerritsen before but now I'll be looking for more of her stuff. Delinsky is always a good read!
