Well researched unbiased and fascinating
Jonathan Margolis a highly credible and competent biographer has completed a sensationally professional piece of work having particularly interesting subject in world-renowned psychic Uri Geller. I was lucky enough to meet both author and subject at a book signing and one of the first points Jonathan brought attention to was that if Uri had managed to fool the world for over two decades he was a more successful man than if he was just using psychic powers that he had been given, either way he is a very special guy. Jonathan takes us through his experiences and does a couple of year's worth of research. he compiles it methodically and without prejudice.

best book ever
Jonathan Margolis has once again amazed all critics with his sensationally professional work, this time having his subject as world renowned psychic Uri Geller. The subject is a controversial one, the biographer a difficult one to please, and the material needed for research would occupy a team of researchers for years. It is therefore obvious that this will be the conclusive article that decides whether Uri Geller is, as the title suggests, a magician or a mystic or whether there is a balance in between the two. It tells of more than the powers that Uri possesses. It also tells something of his amazing character and how he has achieved his wealth, how he started out, what it was like to be a subject rather than a person and how he likes to spend his time. It flows beautifully and is as rich as Bisto, drawing a logical conclusion from a score of different sources. It is surprising that Geller does not make any efforts to influence the outcome or rubbish the other side, but not surprising that CSICOPS try to get the credible journalist to say otherwise. The head of the organisation spent hours in the company of Jonathan Margolis, then rubbishes the book he fell in love with as soon as the 'ending' is made known to him. This comes widely recommended by many people, and I am no exception.

One of the most interesting, well written I have ever read.
I read this book when it came out in the UK. This is Johnathan Margolis' greatest book. His treatment of the life of Uri Geller creates a feeling of almost intimate knowledge about one of the most controversial and interesting men of this century. The reader is additionaly treated to the story of how the author began with his assumption that Geller was just a magician and struggled during his research with the possiblity that Geller really could do scientifically unexplainable things, finally coming the the conclusion that what Geller does are not magic tricks. It was obviously not an easy journey. The book has all the ingredients to make it fascinating: intrigue, humor, pathos, controversy, and (most of all) an intimate look inside not just the life of Uri Geller, but his family and many of his friends and enemies. I could hardly put the book down to eat and sleep until I had finished it.

Together they're Enhanced
The appeal of these two unique and controversial men is greatly enhanced in their letters. Within the relationship the issues that plague their public personnas are mere events that lie on the periphery of their humble searchings. They are the backdrop for their signal concerns about how to live life honorably when humility is culturally and personally under-rated and few examples are taught or revered. Those hardly unique issues are what they seek to heal or answer in their conversations and brief confessions. It is the manner of doing, the expressing, the advising and often the neutralizing that makes these highly personal letters easy to read and relate to. This could be any two men or women who grapple with the need to be recognized. It is this need that motivates them, even energizes their work and it is also that which is part of their narcissistic pangs of doubt and shame. Both struggle with their own authenticity, that inner voice and the more rowdy and raucus voice of their public. They love and hunger and walk that tightrope of sexual as well as other grandiosities. They are human, and in them, we are just that more forgiving- of them- and hopefully of ourselves. Whether Geller can bend the spoons or not- is so much nothing and the Rabbai's Kosher Sex is what they do when they're not loving their families and extending their souls to each other. Soothing and best of all- no Self-help and no sermons.

Better than a biography
Confessions of a Rabbi and a Psychic gives a deep insight into the thinking and lives of these two people more than any biography ever could. With each page new and ever-pressing issues are dealt with in a very human manner, making it an excellent read and totally unputdownable.

Mind Power indeed !
The Mind Power kit is quite a package and should not be missed for any one that's into self-improvement with an open mind. It including a reviling book on the mind and beliefs of Uri, called the Mind Power Book, giving practical exercises for improvement in Uri's unique way. Also included is an energized crystal and orange dote and relaxation tape. One thing I have used the most in the last six months is the Audiocassette in the mind power kit, I cannot express how good I think this cassette is. Uri's voice is extremely relaxing and positive combined with the soothing music this is the best combination subconscious training and relaxation I've ever experienced, and have bought many cassettes. During listening to the cassette I quite often drift off and come back Feeling great, is there any hypnotic quality to the music? If not it must be just super relaxation effect.

Outstandong
The trademark of a spiritually motivated man is the desire to help others improve the quality of their lives, by sharing with them his knowledge and secret powers. To read this book and more importantly, to put into practice what it teaches, is to unleash one's potential and so enhance one's mental and physical performance through life. An added bonus is supplied by the latent power in Uri Geller's voice as he includes relaxation, and coaxes the mind to exert its own powers that lead personal control and self-integration. Hold the crystal energized by Uri, and experience a transfer of energies that will increase your dynamism, your powers of concentration and your sense of well being, especially when used in connections with the amazing Orange Dot.

Change you mind for the better!
It costs only £2.50 with proceeds from it going to one of Uri Geller's favourite charities, but as it's cheaper than box of cigarettes and roughly the same size... it'll do you a whole lot more good! Uri Geller's Little Book Of Mind-Power calls out to you from the book shelf in the shop as it's vibrant orange cover tempts you to buy it. Even once you've purchased it, it still calls out to you every so often. So, what's in it? Well for a start I'd call it a "Peek" book - opening it at random at any page you can just peek in, read a quote and mentally chew it over... and it tastes good! As is true of many self-development books, it doesn't take a lot of information to be really useful - sometimes all it takes is a single quote from famous people to get you to kick-start your brain into either developing good - or stopping bad habits. In here you'll find quotes from Napoleon Hill, George Bernard Shaw, Henry Ford and many other influential and famous people... including Uri Geller himself. Strangely enough Uri's personal quotes leap out of the book at you... knock on your mental door and demand to be let in like an old friend... and it isn't because his quotes are in upper case. Like I said, it doesn't always take a lot of information to change the way you think, and this book is perfect in the way it presents hints and tips which you can use to shift your thinking-gear into a more positive direction. I suggest that you purchase a few of these books, because if you're like me, you'll want to share some of the short yet profound snippets within this book with your friends... and they won't want to give it back! So, will this book help you to bend spoons, read minds, and change the world...? Well, who knows? But one thing is for sure... this book can change your mind... ... for the better! Enjoy.

A Bogus Treatise
Like most skeptics, Kammann and Marks pretend objectivity, when their real mission is to debunk every aspect of the field of parapsychology. For instance, they have zero belief on any level in the possibility of such things as telepathy and remote viewing. For them, it is not possible, so they set out to simply prove this assumption. Yet, simple physics allows for the possibility of some form of thought transference. Just as energy in the form of thoughts transfers from one part of the brain to another part via the neurotransmitters, why wouldn't it be possible for the corresponding molecular frequency to be picked up by another brain? The evidence for telepathy between twins or during dreams is overwhelming, but they ignore it all. See, for instance, Dream Telepathy by Ulmann, Krippner and Vaughan. So, in their attempts to pretend objectivity, Marks and Kammann really set out with the key goal of trying to debunk Uri Geller. They use as their proof photographs that are so blurred that it is impossible to see what the photographs are of, yet these, they assert "prove" that Geller is a fake. It is shameful. Try reading Charles Panati's The Geller Papers if you want the truth about how Mr. Geller did in physics laboratories across the globe. The problem with these types of skeptics is that they live in the mutual admiration society world without realizing that they are not true skeptics but rather narrow thinkers who wall off any chance of discovering anything of value by chanting Groucho Marx' famous credo: "What ever it is, I'm against it!"

Very informative and funny too
I agree with another reviewer that this book is useful even for the staunch believer in ESP. It is a very entertaining reading which is not often the case (I found Martin Gardner`s books rather boring and sometimes arrogant). The two authors are never arrogant. I particularly loved the last chapters that show how common "non-scientific" thinking is among said scientific communities. He gives some examples then concerning psychiatry and medicine. If you remember the Uri Geller craze you will enjoy the opening chapters also.

A critical look at psychic phenomena and human nature
If you're a firm believer in psychic abilities, you may find this book's skeptical stance to be a little disheartening. Read it anyway! It's loaded with useful and fascinating information.

Psychology of the Psychic is a fair and honest look at mentalists, psychics, clairvoyants, "spoonbenders", and others who claim paranormal talents.

Of particular interest to me were the techniques that showmen and charlatans use to convince others of their abilities, and how those techniques may be inadvertently used by those who believe they have experienced psychic phenomena.

If you're a believer, this book will allow you to separate the wheat from the chaff, and identify the outright frauds.

If you're a non-believer, this book will show you why so many people have faith in the paranormal, and will give you lots of ammunition when Aunt Bertha tells you about the marvelous new psychic she's been consulting (and handing over her checkbook to).

A terrific, thorough book, with solid research presented in an easy-to-read and enjoyable manner.

Where is the American info?
I'm just completing the original 1970 version of this book and am amazed at the openness of the Russian scientists to share their work in this area. They take the paranormal as a serious science and study it from many aspects with total respect for their subjects. There is a stark contrast from the Western methods even back in the 1960s. Was that because the Americans were hiding their knowledge or were truly that ignorant on this topic, at least for the public's perception. One only needs to look at the disgrace of MK-Ultra to see how our government tried to perform psychic experiments to include drugs and hypnosis on unwitting citizens. Russia asked for volunteers and approached what appears to be a very well thought out and deliberate development of psychic abilities and documentation of their findings. I'm looking forward to the additions of the updated book since our relationship with Russia has changed in terms of politics and diplomacy.

Hey, don't blame Randi!
It is our weakness to blame the messenger. James Randi, a professional magician, extremely intelligent and honest writer, and an extremely cinical skeptic, is usually the target of "believers" of the paranormal (as you will notice on the "reviews" of his books). Clearly, it is hard to accept that at some time or another, our leg has been pulled, and Randi is the first to let you know, in the most blunt way possible.

This book is not really about demonstrating that Geller is a fraud. Randi simply demonstrate that all the paranormal feats of the famous psychic can be duplicated (Randi himself has done them in TV and personal appearances). That people decide to believe the most fantastical explanation is another different issue.

Another thing worth mentioning is that this book includes excerpts from articles from magazines and newspaper, which shows that Randi was not alone in his skepticism.

A final notice is that if you enjoy this book, you will find more information on "Flim-Flam!", by the same author. There he presents new information, including his meeting with one of Geller's helpers, who confesses to having participated in the tricks, sometimes throwing things for apparent "materializations".

But, if you feel comfortable with "wishful thinking", and don't want to be confronted with facts and more credible alternate explanations, then don't try Randi.

Brilliant, well-written and utterly convincing
Anyone who denies Randi's logic or disputes his facts hasn't fully read or fully understood the book. Randi expresses a great respect for Geller's methods as a magician even calling himself one of Geller's "greatest fans". Especially telling is how Geller refuses to perform any of his so-called miracles in the presence of a competent magician. Those who continue to believe in Geller as their evidence in the paranormal should take their heads out of the sand.

An Excellent expose of a Fraud
James Randi is the skeptics skeptic. In this book he exposes in great detail the fraud that Uri Geller performed on the world. A great read and a facinating subject.

A Most Disturbing Autobiography
The reason we read autobiographies is to understand what motivates the author. To find out what makes him tick. What makes Uri Geller tick? After reading this book I think I can answer that question with one word; money. He brags about the size of his bank account as if that was the true measure of a man.

Enjoyable and informative.
An autobiography up to the 1980's. Good anecdotes , impressive examples of demonstrations, and a rather upbeat outlook in the face of all the implacable 'debunker' types.

Twisting,Twirling, Spoons
Human conciousness has more abilities than we are aware of. The Geller Effect by Gay Lyon Playfair and co-written by Uri shows how Uri has used his incredible powers since his early childhood. Scientists has used him for countless experiments in laboratories and are still mystified by the results. This book will leave you breathless as you turn the pages and learn about top secret government missions and his mysterious powers of dowsing. A wonderful autobiography that will make you eager to learn more. Margolis new book Uri Geller Magician or Mystic seems to finish the story quite well. Angel Rose

There is a "war" going on.
This book even nonsence can be dangerous because includes fear and incorrect action. The fear can cause people to have accidents, some of them fatal. It's the same situation as with an hallucination-what's hallicinated isn't "there," but the illusion that is in this book can bring about te same consenquences as if it were. People become sick, or have lost friends or possessions, or have in turn brought injury to others s the result of reading or beliving in, what is later found to be an illusion. This book is just war of psychic disease. If you read Geller's books you will experience Correct knowledge, they can also protect you from false perception of the world around you.STUDY POINTS.

How to Make Money and Fool People at the Same Time!

Randi observes Geller, interviews those help Geller cheat (friends who passed Geller signals, ect) researches his checkered past (including the other times he has been caught cheating) and recreates everything that Geller does, even better than Geller himself! After this excellent book exposed the truth, Geller dropped out of sight for about ten years or so, to resurface in England, where he bought a mansion and writes books for those who still believe.
