wonderful
I cannot believe that no one has reviewed this wonderful book on Amazon.Com. My paperback copy is 634 pages and everyone is a real winner. Basically, it is about 2 lovely women who meet by chance on a bridge in pre=war London. one is a wealthy American woman, the other, the impoverished wife of a career diplomat. A friendship emerges that binds them over many years of privilege, love and political upheaval.. A dark secret threatens them all but a young orphaned girl touches three generations and unites them for all time. I loved every word and page and it really went on forever. It is a wonderful saga and you will love the surprises. Kirkus says it is a first-rate dynastic saga"

Intense & magical story of a lonely woman who finds herself
This is one of the books that I read as a young woman that made me re-think my purpose and life. It is full of themes about self worth, the sicknesss of racism, the trust of true friends and the promise of the hope of the future.

"Fiona" is a story that will uplift and carry the reader through the violence of the slave uprisings in the islands. It is to me a kind of "Gone with the Wind" but with more purpose and less selfishness and bigotry.

Try this one. You will learn and laugh. You will not be sorry.

A Wonderful Read
I love all the wonderful and sweet people in this book. I cannot believe all the readers in the world haven;t found the time to read and review this book. Takes place in England and America before and after the first World War. Involves Black Jack Pollock and his family which includes Lilly who he picks up off the street in England. She is the shining star of the family. He adopts her and she marries his son who later dies at the hands of his own sister. Brock Weymouth is an American who befriends the family and saves them from misery. Well worth reading.

A must read...
Summer of the Spanish Woman is a wonderful book that blends a romance with the terrible times of World War I. I have read this book twice and keep it in my collection as one of my favorites. I am looking to see if Ms. Gaskin opted to write a sequel to this wonderful novel.

A very enjoyable book
This was a good read. I had one plot twist figured out pretty early, but the final twist was a total surprise. Usually Agatha Christie is the only one who can do that to me.

A Good Book!
This is a well told story of a young woman returning to her grandfather's home in the Highlands after the death of her parents. You learn about whiskey distillery operations, falconry, and the social interactions of the Highlands a hundred years ago. The story evolves into a bit of a mystery with a dramatic ending. Very satisfying.

I felt as though I was a part of the story.
I was wondering if there will be a sequel to the story. I feel that there could be. Perhaps Julia could come back to America and help her sister Alex run her empire. Alisdar would grow up and also become a part of the empire and also Johnny could help run the British division.

VERY GOOD
I LOVED THIS BOOK AND I WOULD RECOMEND IT IN A SECOND!!

Intriguing, but dull
The Tilsit Inheritance is the story of an extremely wealthy (and dysfunctional) family named Tilsit. The Tilsits have owned a major china company for years, and it has always been owned by a woman. When the owner Isobel abruptly dies, she leaves her company to the only surviving female Tilsit, a young woman named Ginny. Through the late Isobel's diaries and writings, Ginny soon learns of Isobel's obsession with the china company, and how her power influenced everyone, even after her death. Ginny is soon forced to leave a lifestyle and man she is falling in love with, for what she believes is the "right" decision for herself. The Tilsit family in this book is very intriguing, and I had a hard time putting this novel down. However, at some points, the book seemed to be about "who Ginny will be dating next" than the Tilsit family itself. However captivating the plot may be, the characters are dull and seem grossly out of place in the book. I recommend this book for anyone craving an intense plot, but is prepared for a disappointing ending.
