Best in the trilogy
Let me start by saying that this book is not what is described above in the story details. Amazon has crossed this with another book. This is Daniel and Mercy's story and the final book in the Wabash trilogy.

Daniel and Mercy have been inseparable for most of their life since being adopted by Liberty and Farr. Actually they were rescued/saved by Liberty/Farr. They have grown up as brother and sister through all of their life. They aren't as close in the past years as they are both starting their adult lives. But when suddenly strangers appear in town and insist that Mercy is actually their sister Hester things change quickly. Percy is back a a villain in this story and he is now in the slave trade, actually he is running a slave "breeding factory" and is evil as ever. He still hates anyone or anything attached to the Quills.

One of the biggest turmoil's in this story is that Mercy's brothers who basically have no manners to speak of want her to go back to Kentucky with the to see her dying mother. This makes her wonder who she really is..... Along the way she and Daniel realize that they both love each other but are afraid to tell the other. On goes the struggle.

A good romance story!

If you like frontier novels, you'll love this one!
Dorothy's Garlock's Wabash trilogy is the best of the best. You'll fall in love with these characters. I feel like they are dear friends. I've read this book and the other two books of the trilogy over 20 times. Daniel and Mercy, Raine and Amy, Libery and Farr, it was wonderful to see what happened to my beloved characters.

Another excellent tale from Dorothy Garlock!
Another excellent Garlock book. Ms. Garlock is a master of including people from other stories and interweaving them through the lives she writes about, and this one was definitely no exception. Mercy and Daniel are charming characters, with many of the traits of Liberty and Farr - the couple that raised them, and were featured in a previous book of this trilogy. I was not ready for this story to end, and would also have liked to read about Farr and George, and Amy and Rain coming home. However, Ms. Garlock made it very clear they were in route. Nevertheless, I would have enjoyed the homecoming.

Mercy is not quite as strong as Liberty or Amy, from the previous books in this trilogy. She did seem pretty dependent on Daniel, however, she was going through quite a lot, and that seemed only natural. She held herself together very well, with her chin high and the same quick temper of Liberty Quill.

Their love story was so sweet and warm, and very enjoyable to read. With the involvement of the family rival, Hammond Perry, still bent on revenge after all these years... the story keeps moving at a fast pace. I found it hard to put down, like the others in this trilogy.

Pride and prejudice...
Pride and prejudice would also have been a fitting name for this story. Poor Logan spent his entire life being shunned by the white people, because of his Indian blood. Labeled a half-breed, he's constantly given a cruel reception everywhere he goes. Then one rainy night he shows up at Rosalee's home, needing shelter for his dying mother.

From then on, the two are drawn to each other... and Logan finds the one person in his life that didn't even consider his heritage or the consequences of their romance.

As much as Logan wants to give into the love he has for Rosalee, he doesn't want her to live to resent him, when she is surely shunned by the white people. Rosalee must fight through the stubborness of Logan, and show him he does want to give into his feelings.

In addition, Logan and Rosalee - along with Rosalee's siblings and father, are suddenly facing serious danger by the huge landowner of the town. Logan has his own reasons for taunting this landowner and purchasing the land bordering his, that he so desperately wants for himself. Mr. Clayhill, the landowner, will stop at nothing to get what he wants... and the townspeople simply look away, not wanting to get involved and endanger their own family.

From beginning to end, it's almost impossible to see a way out for Logan and Rosalee... each small victory is overshadowed by a much bigger price. Along the way, they make some unlikely friends... including Cooper Parnell, who will prove to be much more to them by the end.

Rosalee and Logan are wonderful characters, and I loved reading this story. Rosalee Spurlock is sweet and beautiful and loving. Logan Horn is strong and handsome, but emotionally vulnerable under the surface.

I was thrilled to see the next book in this trilogy will be the story of Cooper Parnell.

Heartfelt Romance
Yummy. Absolutely yummy. I sat down one day with a blanket and coffe and just didn't stop reading. I maneged to fall in love with Logan while I was at it. Wonderful charactors, wonderful book.

A wild romp through the old West.
When Logan, a half-breed, finds his way to Rosalie's doorstep carrying his dying mother in his arms, she can hardly refuse, and she's drawn to him even then. Later, when he arrives at her door bloody and beaten by a Adam Cahill's henchmen, she cares for him. Logan was resigned to living alone, his indian blood made him a target, but Rosalie found her way into his heart, and was determined to stay by his side, no matter what the townspeople said. With unwavering courage and a group of loyal friends, Rosalie and Logan would face the challenge of their lives when he's accused of attacking Adam Cahill's beautiful, deceitful stepdaughter, Della. I really enjoyed this book more than the following stories Wayward Wind and Wind of Promise. The author showed how people can come together in the face of prejudice and injustice. I especially liked the fiesty Minnie, one of the supporting characters.

Historical romance with 1902 Tennessee setting
Set in 1902, this wonderful historical romance story about Wade and Jesse is both endearing and highly entertaining. Wade, falls in love with Jesse at first sight, and finally gets the chance to be near the Nurse and Doctors daughter, when he is needed to escort her through the hills to visit children sick from the scarlet fever. This is Jesse's first experience with the notorious bad guy, and she is surprised to find he is a kind and honest man, with a lot of pride. When a madman goes through town sneaking in the homes of young women of the town, all fingers point at Wade as the criminal. Along the way, as in real life, other events take place to harm their chances of staying together, and the happiness of themselves and those they care about. This book has a little of everything, and I just loved it! Now I'm out of Dorothy Garlock books, so I will anxiously await the release of her new book, "High on the Hill" this summer.

another great one by Ms. Garlock
This is a wonderful book, true to Dorothy Garlock's form. She writes in such a way that makes you feel like you personally know her characters. Judith McNaught is the same way. If you loved "Tenderness" and haven't read Dorothy Garlock's books she wrote set during the depression, "With Hope" "With Heart" "With Song" and "After the Parade" (I believe that is the correct order) do give them a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. "Ribbon in the Sky" and "More than Memory" are equally as notable. Dorothy Garlock is one of the best authors out there today.

Another great book
This book is different then most other Garlock books, it takes place at the turn of the 20th century. Jesse and Wade must over come many obsticles to find happiness including narrow-minded townspeople, criminal accusations, and Wade's pride. Wade's love and protection of Jesse is very touching. This is a fantastic book!

This is one for your keeper shelf!
Dorothy Garlock proves once again that she's the queen of frontier romance. I have read this book many, many times. I laugh and cry and I am always glad to read it over again. It's the best of the best.

Excellent end to this trilogy... wonderful
Kain and Vanessa are another set of characters that will crawl deep into your heart. I really enjoyed reading of their escapades together.

Kain, the stepson of the vicious Adam Clayhill, meets Vanessa and her Aunt Ellie, and cousin Henry. The threesome are determined to travel to Junction City, and meet the brother of Ellie's dead husband (whom she was only married about a month to before his death) in order to locate kinfolk for her son, Henry. With no travel sense the trio are sure for some major problems, if not to lose their lives. Kain sees no other choice then to escort them to Junction City himself... although he's already discovered his strong attraction to the red-headed, Vanessa.

Ellie's son, Henry, is a simple-minded man and one of the main reasons the trio was taking this trip were because her fear of who would take care of him after she was gone, and not wanting to burden Vanessa with his care if she ever marries. She hoped they would find some kin, that would ease this fear for her. Ellie and Henry were not prepared for what they actually did find in Junction City. It seems there is no limit to the lives Adam Clayhill has destroyed... but you'll be pleased at the outcome of this story.

The double wedding that takes place in Junction City, will reunite the wonderful characters from the previous two books of this trilogy. You'll discover what has been occuring in the lives of Logan and Rosalee Horn, Cooper and Lorna Parnell, Arnie and Syliva Henderson, and many more. This reunion is perfect for the last of the trilogy... and what happens to the two villians, Adam and Della Clayhill, will give you satisfaction as well.

Along the way, you'll love the variety of characters from the two Texan brothers - Jeb and Clay, to John Wisner, and Mary Ben - the love of Henry Hill!

First Romance Book
This was the very first romance novel that was given to me 10 years ago when I was just 15 and I still treasure the images of the characters and the book itself. I just couldn't put the book down I have read and read this novel over and over so many times that I decided to store the book to keep it in it's original condition possible.

Anyone that enjoys the setting that this story is placed in will just enjoy reading this book I have not been able to find another that can top it. It will always be my favorite.

Yesteryear by Dorothy Garlock
This is my favorite book by Dorothy Garlock. Outstanding story. I have read it many times and it is on my shelf of keepers. If you like Dorothy Garlock books you will love this one. John Tallman and Addie Hyde are so realistic.

The Walton's plus a true romance!
This book portrays the 1930's in such a real way that you will feel like you are living during that time. The story carries you into the world of the characters and you feel a part of their lives. Very graphic scenes of child abuse, mentally unstable behavior, poverty...but a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I read it in one sitting...couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Book one in a trilogy. Can hardly wait for the next two!

Wonderful characterization makes this book sparkle!
Ms. Garlock's WITH HOPE is a truly fascinating read. The prologue hooked me on page one, and I only stopped reading when I HAD to.

Henry Ann Henry sparkles--what a well-crafted character! I liked her so much I found myself wanting to read more about her when I finished the book. The setting was also well-drawn. Ms. Garlock's research into the 1930's shone through on every page. I could feel the stress and strain of the depression on nearly all the characters--particularly those on Mud Creek and on the hero, Tom Dolan.

I wholeheartedly recommend WITH HOPE. There's just enough suspense to keep the story rolling at a good pace, the romance is truly unique, and the true-to-life characters leap off the page. You won't want to put this one down!

The characters were great
This is my first book by Ms. Garlock, but it won't be my last. She made you feel as if you were living in that time with those people. I can't want to read With Song.

Exciting and very entertaining
A great collection of characters, like all of the Dorothy Garlock stories, that should entertain even the pickiest readers. This was an extremely entertaining story, however, not my favorite of hers. Still - it's a story that shouldn't be missed! It's very entertaining, suspenseful, romantic, and full of exciting twists. Ms. Garlock is the best creator of characters. I hope, as other readers will too, that Dillon Tallman will come back in another of Ms. Garlock's stories. My favorite thing about the Dorothy Garlock stories, is that characters from other books will return and give you a continuing glance of what is occuring in their lives, long after you finish the novel they were a key character in. Ms. Garlock is currently my favorite storyteller... you are sure to venture into a remarkable journey with every story. Enjoy!!!

This IS one of her better ones
Man, I sat down and read this story all day. I just couldn't stop. I kept wondering, "if I put it down, I won't know what happens next---" in the sense that----
A rancher is out in the wilderness, defending property of an attractive woman who comes to the wilderness, to the Larkspur, to have something of her own. She finds this rancher dude there.
Its a slow blossoming romance, but sweet. The suspense part was when was the land grabber gonna attack? Were the Indians hostile?
Who was the little old timer? Was her brother gonna come and get her and make her come home? Would this be her home with this man?
It was good. Made you feel like you were in the story.
Out on the western frontier, miles from anywhere. Indians and gunslingers at every turn---would they find love, too?
A real shoot em up! Its good.

Great Story
Dorothy Garlock is one of the best romance writers of our time. This book is just one example of her outstanding work. This is one of the first books from her that I read. Since then I have read almost all of them. I can not say enough about Larkspur. If you haven't read it then I definately reccommend that you order it right now. I too would like to see more stories with any of the Tallmans in it.

Homeplace
I thought the storyline was good. I found the descriptions of some of the characters in this book to be offensive, especially the character's sister DeeDee. I will probably not read another book by this author just because of this.

Of Home and Hope and Family
Somehow I missed this particular book when it came out, though I've been a Siddons fan for a long time. Interesting companion to her newest book NORA, NORA, with a similar pivotal character in virtually the same setting. This is a tale of coming home and discovering your history, with plenty of betrayal and love along the way. Micah Winship, works through a pretty awful childhood and becomes an award winning journalist, when her world collapses and she finds herself called back to Lytton, Georgia. Ms. Siddons is a Southern writer who can make you feel heat, humidity and actually breath the air along with her characters, who also breathe and live and languish. Excellent portrayal of the south with well sketched, believable characters. The story is thought provoking and hopeful.

Great Books
I to date have read all but two of Ann Siddon's books. They are the most entrancing books that I have ever read. I highly recomend them. I could not stop turning pages far into the night. Happy reading.

Not my idea of a romantic hero
I have read several of Dorothy Garlock's books and expected this to be an enjoyable read. While Garlock is an entertaining writer and the story is very exciting with all of its twists and turns, I found this particular story very unenjoyable because the hero was such a brute. The hero, Jefferson, is so physically attracted to the heroine that he attempts to rape her fairly early on in the story. Yet all of the "good" characters that Annie trusts seem to think this guy is so wonderful and the author certainly otherwise portrays him as one of the "good" guys. Why would such a strong willed, intelligent heroine fall for a lout who mauled her roughly in the woods and would have successfuly raped her is someone hadn't come along. Usually this is the type of guy the heroine is miraculously saved from by the "good" male lead - she doesn't usually fall in love with him a few chapters down the road. I couldn't finish this book - I just didn't care about such a mean hero enough to find out what happens. This author has written much better books.

Not good
I love Dorothy Garlock's books but this one just didn't make it with me. The male character wasn't nice to anyone, especially Annie Lash. The story was disjointed and at times unbelievable. Maybe the 1700's just isn't the time period for me although I did like Wild Sweet Wilderness by the same author.

Excellent!
This has to be one of my favorite Dorothy Garlock stories, outside of the With Hope series. This story is full of exciting twists and turns, with a very spirited and independent female character.

There are two very touching and emotional love stories within these pages, that will keep you intrigued to find out what's happening next. At the conclusion of this story, another romance is developing between Maggie and Light... you'll find them next in the follow-up book, ALMOST EDEN.

(yawn)
Dorthy Garlock's Love and Cherish has an insipid meandering excuse for a plot. She drudges along a well worn path through historical romanance: the lovely but tiny young maid falls in love with the huge life-harden man and in turn wins his heart. I love a good roamance with a happy ending, but this is entirely too predictable. The dialogue is so honeyed, it is laughable. If this book is publishable, we should all give writing a book a try!

Charming
This is a charming little story, with a little of the hardships of the time. No, this is not Ms. Garlock's best... and no, there is not quite enough emotional conflict to carry the story for the 343 pages. However, it is a sweet story. If you're looking for a simple story without too much conflict, this is it!

Cherish spends the entire book letting Sloan determine the route of the relationship, and giving into his every whim. Unlike most of Ms. Garlock female characters, Cherish is quite dependent on Sloan. Otherwise, it's a good story.

BETTER THAN YOU THINK!
Cherish Riley is displaced from her Virginian home and lost and alone with some crude grunts. She is waiting for the return of her brother but the crud wants to trade her off to some weasels.

She takes off to try and disappear into the forests along the Kentucky river. Mind you, this is Daniel Boone's time in history.

Terror, fear and exhustion dog her footsteps until she is rescued by a bear of a man and his unapproachable dog, Brown. [grin] Blink yourself into her time and see how you would fare. Traveling in October with no real warm clothing had to be a trial in itself. Sloan did his best to provide for Cherish.

Sloan Carroll is looking to pick up a wife to take home to his homestead to take care of his brother's child. Cherish is an angelic answer to his problem and he determines to return home sooner than expected. And he intends to keep his heart intact. No falling in love and giving any woman emotional power over him.

Except for those blasted Hurons slowing him down. The Frenchie, Pierre is one lovable character and puts Cherish at ease. It's not easy being seventeen in a land of men, and one needs a man's protection.

I could feel the freezing cold and exhustion of the characters as they arived home needing the help of Juice and True to make it inside. These two men turn out to be true friends.

The advent of Ada coming for her baby, Orah Delle and stalking Sloan was a bit wicked. And then the doubts raised by Minnie Dove and her pursuit of Sloan and the friendship of John Spotted Elk began to round out Cherish's life in the small community.

I don't see how she got over the visual extermination of the river rats so quickly - [I would still be having nightmares]but Cherish had the support of so many friends. I hope John Spotted Elk gets a story and a woman of his own.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [if you can get in tune with the times.] I couldn't put it down and to me that makes an excellent story.
