Fantastical story of a woman's spiritual healing in Australi
I read the book and then had the opportunity to meet and talk with the author at length. In and of itself, it is an easy and entertaining read. The story does seem a bit fantastic, but after speaking with Ms. Fuller, it is clear that these events did take place and had an impact on her life. (And yes, I did get to see the egg...quite fascinating!)

Fantastic
Elizabeth doesn't feel good after the dead of her husband. She decides to go to Australia and there she meets an aboriginal. She tries to live the way they live and starts to understand the meaning of life. Before I read this book I had problems with stress, but while reading it, I felt the stress falling of.

Fantastic story
Fantastic story of someone that makes a journey in Australia. You would want to go there directly.

appalling
of all the sorry excuses i've seen for dumping one's kids in day care, this is the saddest thing of all. eighteen nannies! do you know the emotional havoc for this boy? this is so contrary to the needs of a human infant. for shame

How to Find the Perfect Nanny
I too read the book. I found it both humorous and educational. I don't remember anything in it about a poor, traumatized child.

Funny and endearing
I think the other reviewer on this book didn't even read it. I did. She did not have 18 nannies, she interviewed that many, looking for the right one for her kid. This is a funny, endearing, entertaining book and it's a shame that it's gone out of print.

Pierced by Murugan's Lance: Ritual, Power, and Moral Redemption Among Malaysian Hindus
Published in Hardcover by Northern Illinois Univ Pr (1997)
Author: Elizabeth Fuller Collins
Amazon base price: $35.00
Average review score:

interpreting rituals from a multi-dimensional perspective
Rituals associated with religious festivals (case of Thaipusam among Hindus in Penang, Malaysia) must be understood in the larger macro context of the society. For Collins, rituals associated with Thaipusam reflects the enduring tensions within the Hindu society in Malaysia. More specifically, she argues the class and caste contradictions play a significant role in how the different sections of the society interpret rituals. The author by solely focussing on the internal contradictions of the Hindu society in Malaysia fails to take into account the impact of the role state in Malaysia on the Hindu society. The revitalization of Islam and the pro-Malay policy of the Malaysian state equally play a significant role in influencing the Hindu society.

Misleading
Prospective readers be aware - what I took to be a book, turned out to be a play. It was a very slim, university press edition that, in my opinion, was not worth the price.
