Excellent look at struggle between nature and technology
This is a beautiful collection of Frost's poems that goes well beyond the Road Not Taken. Frost examines over and over the delicate balence between nature and "progress," and reminds us that there is much we can still learn from the trees and the birds.

On the Sonnets of Robert Frost: A Critical Examination of the 37 Poems
Published in Hardcover by McFarland & Company (1997)
Author: H. A. Maxson
Amazon base price: $39.95
Used price: $22.50
Average review score:

A critical reading of Frost sonnets useful to all readers.
Poet and critic H. A. Maxson has written the first critical book on the sonnets of Robert Frost. Maxson's scholarship is sound, and newcomers to the sonnet form will find his work valuable, for Maxson explains how and why these poems qualify, even today, as genuine sonnets.

There are 37 sonnets in Frost's canon, according to Maxson. Some are true sonnets in the traditional sense while others are variants. Nevertheless, all 37 have 14 lines, schematic rhyme patterns, and the customary "turn" of meaning or intent.

The format of On The Sonnets is easy to follow. Each poem is evaluated in the order that it was collected and published, and following each is a fully developed critical inquiry. Finally, Mr. Maxson provides informative readings of Frost's nine posthumously published sonnets.

H. A. Maxson is, readers should know, the author of hundreds ofpublished and collected poems. So he is able and willing to address his examinations to writers as well as readers. While On the Sonnets of Robert Frost is indeed a "critical examination," all readers will find Maxson's criticism clearly set forth, fully referenced, and deeply insightful.

Awesome
As a registered play therapist and professor of early childhood, I can tell you this book is one of the most comprehensive and well-written books on the subject of children. Our society no longer values play in children, and this book illustrates what happens to children if they cannot play. Play is essential for the overall development of a child. Piaget and Vygotsky were just two major theorist that support Joe Frost's contentions. This is a must book for anyone doing a literature review for research involving the overall development of a child. It is a must book for any one in an educational setting whereby one teaches future educators about children.

Some great Poems
The book is a collection of poems by Robert Frost. It combines the collections of A Boys Will, and North of Boston. Many of the poems were about nature, and love. I selected the book because I had read Robert Frost before and I liked his style, and I felt I could relate to some of the poems. Most of them had no riming scheme, and were written in sentences, or stanzas. There was one poem about Blueberries that I particularly enjoyed because I like picking them. I also liked it because some of the poems seemed to have a hidden meaning. I thought that Frost wrote discriptive ad imaginable language. I would recommend it to readers that are older than 13. I would also recommend it to readers who like reading about nature. And finally I would recommend it to anyone who has read Robert frost, and enjoyed his work.

A lot of wisdom rolled up into a tiny book.
This book is incredible. Not only do you get to know Frost and Reichert pretty intimately, you see how ideas can merge and interplay through the interesting relationship that they had. It has a lot of insight into the mind of Frost particularly. Andrew Marks has put together a true gem with this little book. I borrowed it from a friend and now I am going to get my own copy because it says so much that I know I will get even more from it the second and third time I read it.

Reading and Writing Nature: The Poetry of Robert Frost, Wallace Stevens, Marianne Moore, and Elizabeth Bishop

Opening the Doors of Perception
This book is an outstanding analysis of "reading and writing nature" in the works of four great American poets. I found the book specific and compelling. It helped clarify for me the problems of perception and cognition as they have been analyzed, written about and lived by American poets. It enhanced my own experience of and appreciation for these writers. The book also opens a door onto the larger dimensions of nature that can become locked or occluded through disuse. I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in the relationship between art, nature and the imagination.

great for poetry phobes
I am studying American poetry and have always felt shaky about analyzing poets and their works. I like this book because it's more in depth than Cliff Notes and more sophisticated. It also pointed me toward more stuff than the net did. The biography of Frost was really helpful.

A Quiet Poet
Robert Frost is not as impressively artistic as other readers might be, but his quiet unassuming style suits the nature of his poetry, and emphasizes how well this consummate poet uses rhyme and rhythm without ever breaking natural speaking patterns to do so. The two cassettes include the poems everybody studies and memorizes. "The Road Not Taken," " Fire and Ice," "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," "Mending Walls," "Birches," and "Death of a Hired Man" are all here. They also include poems that are less familiar to some of us. "A Considerable Speck" is a lovely encounter with a small bug that I had not noticed before.

The breadth of this set makes it a wonderful asset for those who love poetry, and those who hope to teach others to love it. The one drawback is the very short pauses between poems. It is sometimes hard to tell where one poem ends and the next begins if you are not familiar with them.
