The most in-depth, all ecompassing work on Globalization yet
These books are simply a "MUST HAVE" for any political science student. To my knowledge these books are used to teach high ranking military officials (Colonel's and Generals) and the upper echelons of the civilian intelligence world at the National Defense University. This is the material that informs those who protect this nation. There is a total of 49 chapters (essentially articles written by different authors) addressing various and very peritinent subjects in the realm of globalization. The material is very easily read as well. I'd give it a sixth star, just because it has helped me out so much in my classes, but...

Covers the Globalization Waterfront
This is a large, two volume set that includes works from Washington's great economic and military thinkers. It is thorough, well written, scholarly, and insightful. It is among the very best of books written on globalization and its positive and negative impacts on world events, both current and future.

In Our Time of Crisis in the US and Around the World
With crisis situations mounting all around us in the US and the world, there's no better time to learn how to handle crisis. Everyday I read about a new event in the papers, whether it be in the Middle East or at home on 9/11. I loved this book because it taught me a lot about crisis and business management. It was also exciting to read as it was written like a mystery novel. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in business management, dealing with everday crises, history, politics, economics, high schools, interesting careers, inventions, saving money, learning about innovative solutions to challenging problems in the real world, or anyone who enjoys a good story!

Beautifully written, Spellbinding.
Thoroughly captivating storytelling of George F. Kennan's strategic thought. I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. If this is a first book for Dr. Russell, I believe we are seeing genius in the making. Perhaps the present forgers of US foreign policy should review this book and look to its author as blueprint for Foreign Policy as we known it. This book truly breaks down Kennan's strategic thought, with explanations a fifth grader could come to understand. Awesome. Beautifully written. Spellbinding.

An Unknown American Tragedy
"The Killing Frost" is a gripping novel that details a little known tragic event in American history. Once started, it is impossible to put the book down.

The events depicted by Mr. May open a window on a horrible event in our relationships with the American Indian as told by two young boys. I guarantee you will empathize with their plight and be ashamed and saddened at the events so graphically depicted. I sincerely hope someone will take this book and make it into a movie as the story needs to be told to all Americans. Don't pass this novel by. It is well worth the read.

Soul Mapping Offers a Gradual, Deep Path to Self-Discovery
I have long been interested in the problem-framing approach known as mind mapping, and that's what led me to order a copy of this excellent new book. I have only had a copy of Soul Mapping in hand for about a week, and I am already very excited about the work I have completed in it. It's not one of those "instant fix" self-help books, but one that offers a curriculum for life change that will probably take me several months, or more, to work through slowly. I like that - the feeling that I am working gradually on a process that will help me better understand myself, my place in the world and the options available to me out there. It's a truly caring, thoughtful and intelligent book that emphasizes authentic life changes over quick ones. I'm very pleased and I hope this book will find the wide audience it deserves.

Not bad, but
This book is a good collection of Harris, Uncle Remus tales. Some of the posters have gone into the history of these tales, so no need to repeat that here. However, these tales are best taken in small doses, as Chandler's "Negro dialect" (as it was known at the time) is a bit much on the eyes of the modern reader (I'm an African-American from South Carolina myself and I had a lot of trouble trying to decipher some of this). But the illustrations are quite fitting and wonderful. So if you have a lot of patience and love some good stories, go for it.

The best folktales.
These animal stories were banned in the late sixties from many schools and libraries for being racist (the storyteller in the book, Uncle Remus, is a slave and uses the "n" word). But it seems that it's now ok to like these stories again, and a good thing that is, because they are not only hilariously funny, they are also deeply revealing of the foibles of us humans. But perhaps most importantly, they are a treasure trove of African American folklore.

The stories combine folktale motifs brought from Africa by slaves with those of the native peoples of the south, particularly the Cherokee and Choctaw. Since both cultures had stories with animal characters, and specifically trickster rabbit characters, ethnologists have not been able to completely determine which elements are the African and which are the Native American. No matter, since the two cultural traditions blend together seamlessly.

This edition is the most encyclopedic of all the Uncle Remus collections, and contains many different types of tales. There are origin tales, like how Mr. Dog originally came to live with Mr. Man and why Mr. Cricket has elbows on his legs. There are satirical tales, like the one in which Brer Rabbit convinces Brer Fox that it's the fashion in town for up-to-date foxes to have their heads cut off, which is information that Brer Fox, out of vanity, acts on in the way Brer Rabbit hopes. There are Trickster tales --mostly involving Brer Rabbit and Brer Tortoise (who is the only character who can out-trickster Rabbit). And there are tales of witches, magic, and superstition specific to Africa.

It's written in Southern African-American dialect of the 19th century, which can be tough going for some, but there is a glossary in the back (which I didn't realize was there for over a year) that helps. Also, the stories demand to be read out loud, being originally of an oral tradition, and I think you will find that reading them aloud while just following the given spelling will make the dialect more understandable than just reading it silently.

These stories are so wonderful that my teenaged sons, who think it's "babyish" to be read to, will still allow me to read Brer Rabbit tales to them. If you are looking for great Literature that's funny and easy to read, buy this book and have a really good time!

Yep
This is one of the best books ever written anywhere by anyone. Personally, I place it among the Taoist classics. Be that as it may, if you don't read it you'll never know what you're missing. If you're looking for crazy wisdom, it's all in here, but don't overlook the ridiculous either because this book will probably put you in stitches, and I ain't just whistlin' Dixie.

An Incredible First Novel!
Here's an incredible debut novel direct from Holland by author Richard Frost. This is a page turner that's hard to put down, from the brutal beginning to the shocking ending that will leave any reader stunned. It's about 17-year-old Jip, who the night before he plans on telling his parents he's gay, goes to a public toilet and becomes a victim of gay bashing. He suffers a fractured skull, emerges from a coma, brain damaged and can't remember anything of what has happened or who did this terrible deed to him. Now he must learn the simplest of tasks over and over again. He isn't able to remember people he already knows from day to day, so he writes everything down on a board to remember. Therapy doesn't help him, so he meets Kasper who befriends him and suggests he take Karate lessons. Kasper takes Jip to live with him & help rehabilitate him. Jip's parents are frustrated with Jip, and decide Kasper may be their only hope now to help their son. The karate lessons are a failure so Kasper suggests weight training. Jip meets closet case bodybuilder Axl at the gym who will be his weight lifting trainer. Axl's new dependence on steroids becomes very destructive, and it slowly overwhelms him, changing his personality completely. Jip and Axl's friendship turns into a sexual relationship, which causes many problems, especially with Kasper. It's at this point the story, as told by the narrator (who is a neighbor & a gay ballet dancer), accelerates quickly bringing this book to it's shocking conclusion.

Although this story was about a very serious and horrible turn of events it was never depressing. Yes, it's brutal and tragic, but the narrator keeps it's light in a black comic sort of way. Believe it or not it's very humorous at times. There's a lot of irony here, and catchy story telling. A perfect book, a quick read, and a good way to spend an evening curled up by the fire in your favorite chair. I recommend you don't miss this one!

Brilliant
Jip's on the verge of coming out to his parents, when he's brutally attacked. Emerging from a coma, he has no memories of his life and must rebuild from the beginning. He's befriended by the androgynous Kasper (a karate instructor) and Kasper's friends, and by some other guys at a local gym. Among this group of friends lurks the man who attacked Jip. This thoroughly engrossing story is told from the point of view of one of Kasper's (and Jip's) housemates who is piecing together Jip's story. It's an amazing book that I couldn't put down even once after I began. This would make a brilliant movie, too, rather like "The Vanishing" (Dutch, not American, version).

Perceptive and thrilling

Here's a review I just read from the prestigious Library Journal about 'Brain and Body':

"After a brutal attack at a public toilet for being gay, 17-year-old Jip is left severely brain-damaged and must rebuild his life. Since Jip can barely remember his own name for more than five minutes at a time, his guilt-ridden housemate tells his story. Jip makes friends, works out, gets a job, and finds a lover despite his severe handicap yet remains incredibly vulnerable to the manipulation of others. He, his family, and friends and even the shadowy, unnamed narrator are clearly drawn characters, complete with the quirks and complex motivations of real individuals.

This quick debut novel is at turns ominous and optimistic, highlighting the ability of people both to heal and to harm others grievously. First novelist Frost uses foreshadowing to build suspense about Jip's ultimate fate. The reader can be certain it won't be a happy one but will be compelled to keep turning the pages. Recommended for all public libraries." Devon Thomas.

Not a Tribute to the GREAT writer
I was sadly very disappointted by this book. The postive light is that Robert Frost's works are there and as always wonderful. Yet the contents and way that the book is actually set up is very confusing. It has no index and the contents is blantently wrong. Their is no order to where the works are and poems, plays and stories are mixed in amongest one another. I would recommend to all that they read Robert Frost yet certainly not in this frustraiting fashion.

Perfect
An excellent book that contains all of this works to perfect form. This book as letters that he sent to other people. I have read this whole book a few times, it is perfect. Get the book.

few compare with Frost
I do not really I believe that all the stuff here merits five stars (books like these throw in the kitchen sink when covering their subjects). Yet, when I ask myself--"how can I possibly not give some of the stuff here more than five stars?" I cannot sufficiently answer the question.

A poet like Frost comes around maybe once in a generation (if we're lucky). Some of his works are undeniably for the ages. This volume is filled with the treasures Frost left to us.

Works like "The Tuft of Flowers," "The Death of the Hired Man," "Blueberries," "The Road Not Taken," "Fire and Ice," and "Mending Wall" (a poem that literally changed my life) are genuine contributions to world literature.

A ton of Frost's poetry is to be found in this edition. I am struck by how consistent and sure he is in his poetry. This man was a great poet. I am not a big fan of reading plays. I'd rather see them interpreted by actors on a stage. I'm not going to lie and say Frost was a great playwright--he was not. But all the same, I am glad to have read the works contained in this volume.

I must say that The Library of America's volume are all handsomely done and attractively presented. The texts are extremely readable for only being in ten-point font. For the most point, I ignored the notes (I prefer to make heads or tales of things on my own.) The few that I read surprised me because they actually were enlightening.

I recommend this volume most highly.

Wavedancers: A review
This elfquest readers collection book does not focus on the elves we all adore, Cutter, Leetah, Ember, Scouter, Skywise, etc. Instead it concentrates on the elves who remained in the sea. Like Winnowill, they had gills but were mostly the same as the other elves. Not a best read, it was slightly boring at times.

Wendy pini has done it again!
I as you may already know am a complete fan of all yhe elfquest books and comics. This is as good as any of her other peices of work with a livly story and great characters.
