Genius or Gibberish?
Is this a brilliant work of fiction or 150 pages of gibberish? This little book can be a tough read. Is it because of its French origin and something is lost in the translation (the French are so different from us), or is it because as a man reading it I missed the point of the female writers nuances? I have not decided yet. From the description on the cover I was expecting the story of a desparate search for a missing person. But the action (if you could call it action) takes place in the narrators fractured mind, and half way through the book you begin to question if there ever was a husband. Maybe a second reading would bring more insight into the character. If you are looking for a book with a good plot, action, dialogue and character development, look elsewhere.
one stiff novel to read
As a matter of fact, this is not a very interesting book for all readers.(pig tales would be an entertaining one).On account of the fact that in this story, lengthy part was utililised by the author to portray the transformation of the mind of the wife whose husband has been missing. At the very beginning, she's so extremely worried about her husband. But then she became anguished, disgruntled, and even had some visions not real after she realised she can't find out where her husband is.As everyone knows,it's more unbearable to us to be abandonned by our close relatives than to know they were dead, and this reflects the reality too.To be honest, you may get bored by reading this story. However, great chance upon us contemplating the purpose of our existence.

A Minor Book by a Major Writer
I've long enjoyed THE STORY OF ROLF AND THE VIKING BOW by Allen French. My first reading of that book was at the age of twelve, and I remembered it fondly. Re-reading it was a pleasure, even with the somewhat stilted language. THE RED KEEP was another pleasure, while somewhat less. This book, I'm afraid to say, is not French's best work, which still makes it better than most. The story moved too slowly for me, though it had a fine, brooding quality, and the characterization was excellent. A fine tale of intrigue and justice set in twelfth century England. I do hope that some of French's other work, including SIR MARROCK find their way back into print. Recommended to boys of all ages.

French may be spoken and understood.
The authors of the classroom textbook "Montage" have attempted to give the level two student an understanding of the French language and French philosophy by interaction of the students themselves with characters from the book while building upon a broader base of vocabulary. This they have succeeded in doing, but much action and thought written in this manual is mundane and tends to make a person of any age and nationality wonder why such questions such as why a cold shower versus a hot shower in the mornĂng is needed if one rises late or early. I remember being told that the north of France seems to write all the classroom textbooks by my French language instructor-a woman who was born and raised in The Basque region. To underline a point, the learning text should be more demonstrative of more naturally occuring events in convesational French today, allthough the applictions section at the end of each chapter are indeed sometimes very well written.

More for people that are familiar with the Language...
I am currently using this book in my College French101 Class. The only problem that I have with this book is that the instructions (for the activities)are in french, so to know what you are supposed to do you must look up every word you don't know, which (if you are a beginner) is most of them!
