This book was a joy to read! My second grader loved the story as it goes through the whole year with events relating to what she has learned in school this year. I.Q. is adorable as he wants to become a student not just the class pet. I.Q. learns about the alphabet, colors, numbers and holidays along with students. But more than anything, I.Q. wants to be picked for STUDENT OF THE WEEK. When will it be his turn? This book is a great read and it will surely be a favorite with your children as it is with mine.

Every first grade class will enjoy this joyful trip through the school year. This fits month by month with the first grade curriculum. I.Q. will be a welcome pet and student that children can relate to. This book is a joy to read and share.

This book is wonderful! I don't think it's left out a single cozy person, place or thing. The illustrations are cozy too.

My son received this book as a gift when he was a few months old. Since then (four years ago), I have given this book as a gift to everyone I know when their child is born. This book is perfect at bedtime, naptime, cuddle time, any time. My son still asks for it at story time and now my younger son is enjoying it, too. The book may seem long at first, but you will enjoy reading this book to your child(ren). This book creates wonderful "cozy" memories for both the parent and child.

We borrow a lot of books from the library, and not many stand out. But this one is a winner! My 4 year old and I love this one so much that I am going to buy a copy for us. It has wonderfully clever rhymes about topics that interest kids. I highly recommend it.

Since first reading "The Seven Silly Eaters" about a year ago, I have become a Mary Ann Hoberman addict, and am thrilled to have recently added "The Llama Who Had No Pajama" to my growing collection. She is a master of silliness, and you and your children will laugh with delight at the poems in this collection. I bought my first copy for my first grade classroom, and have since bought a second copy for my four-year old. My first graders are eating this stuff up - we read some of them together, and they keep going back for more - some of them can even recite the title poem! (And it's long!) This is also a wonderful introduction to poetry for pre-schoolers - if you've got one, and have never really read any poetry with him/her, it's a great way to develop a love of reading, as well as rhyming ability which is a key to early reading development!

I read A House is a House for me by Mary Ann Hoberman. The book has a lot of homes in it. Home of animals and other kinds too. I only liked the pictures and the ryhming parts. It was not so exciting. I think little kids would like it.

I have only been a first grade teacher for two years now, and am just starting to build up my own children's literature collection. House is a House for Me is without a question one of my favorites. The children loved it so much when I read this book of rhyme, not a peep was made on the rug. When I was finished reading the book, the children wanted to create their own class version entitled House is a House for Me 2! If you are a teacher or a parent, this is a small investment, but one that you and your children will treasure for years to come.

I read this book to my daughter fifty times or more. It is a wonderful piece of poetry to recite; rhythmic and fun. The pictures are very detailed, with lots for a child to discover and ask questions about. Every page has an intricate drawing with many different recognizable details. I found it to be a good jumping off point for many varied discussions when my daughter was a tot. I send it to my friends who are having their first baby....

Interesting facts of science such as how many bones there are in the human body, what black holes are, and the life cycle of a fern. The book is well written for kids 8 to 12. Each of the ten areas covered is simply and coherently developed. This 128 page book presents a good background of science for the middle grades and includes interesting illustrations of the principles. Unfortunately for those of us who accept the biblical record, the book explains that life started billions of years ago after the earth was formed. The concept of evolution, however, does not seem to color the rest of the book. Topics are the physical world, chemistry, earth, the atmosphere, water, plants, animals, ecology, the human body, and space.

This book was an easy read. It wasn't to exciting but it was very factual. It gave correct dates and times and pictures. The book was about how General Grant tried to take the South's big city Vicksburg. After many failures he finally tricked the South and took Vicksburg for the North.

Mary Ann Fraser clearly knows her subject, but her writing style at times is confusing even for an adult. She makes mental connections without waiting for the reader to "catch up." For example, there is the following paragraph, which thoroughly confused two fifty-year-olds. In the previous paragraph, Fraser was writing about a dilemma facing the South in one of its military campaigns. Then comes this paragraph: "Hunker down or attack: Which would save the city--and the South? March through the disease-infested swamps to attack from the north or run the gauntlet past the Vicksburg batteries and approach from the south: Which would allow a constant flow of supplies to the troops, conquer the 'Gibraltar of the Confederacy,' and bring victory to the North?" I rest my case. If this paragraph cited above is not confusing, I don't know what is. Ms. Fraser needs to reedit the book and make it clearer what she is writing about at each juncture. She needs to spell out the history more, as well, if the book is intended for children who are not already VERY familiar with the Civil War. Once she has done the reediting, it has a chance at being a great children's book about this important battle and what it signified for the outcome of the war.
