I received this book as a gift from my aunt just a couple days ago. It was late at night and I was cramming for an exam. I noticed the book's title and discovered that it was a book of unbelievable accomplishments, which I love. I decided to leaf through the book and read just a few anecdotes of these noteworthy accomplishments by both man and nature....

....and I couldn't put it down. It didn't take long for me to push all those history notes clear out of my head. I only intended on reading a few stories and I wound up reading hundreds! They are absolutely hilarious! Like the story of the "best pen":

One day a guy paid $400 for steel-banded tires that were said to be bomb-proof and spike-proof. But later he wound up puncturing them by running over a ball-point pen, and the pen still wrote afterwards!

Are you hungry for more of these stories? Then pick up this book! It's got stories on movies, literature, food, science, technology, nature, psychology--anything you want to know! Just don't buy it if you have a exam coming up. I haven't gotten mine back yet and I don't think I did very well on it.

Felton and Fowler's hilarious volume citing the best, worst, and most unusual in movies, music, sports, art, literature, etc. (according to the authors, their own book is the worst ever). This book has long been a favorite of mine, and I was thrilled to find out that this book was still in print and highly recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by the unconventional.

Some of the articles include: "The Most Unusual Jazz Band" (the Hilton Sisters, Daisy and Violet, siamese twins joined at the hip); "Most Unusual Reformer" (an imposing woman named Carrie Nation who was active during the turn of the century; her mother thought she was Queen Victoria); and "Most Unusual Auction" (a certain body part belonging to Napoleon cited as a "dried up object", which was set to be auctioned for a staggering amount). One of the funniest and most absorbing reference works ever (once you get into it, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to put down), well written and filled with illustrations which serve to verify some of the far-out stories. To anyone who enjoys the "Guinness Book of World Records" and the like, I heartily recommend it.

It is sooo good and sooo funny

Anyone who attempts to read, understand, teach or learn anything about the Gospel of Mark, whether cleric or lay, scholar or non-scholar, MUST read this first. No section, episode or verse should be commented on, interpreted, or even read without the necessary insights of this book. Before we can understand a reading of Mark, we must understand HOW to read Mark. Only after reading this book did I even begin to grasp any other introduction, commentary, or interpretation of the world-changing literary achievement we know today as a gospel. This book unlocks our minds from reading backward through orthodoxy and instead allows a fresh, unbiased reading of what has been unrecognized as a truly literary masterpiece. Mr. Fowler is deserving of any and all accolades he receives for this landmark work of scholarship.

This book is amazing. During the course of writing a master's thesis on Mark, I waded through a LOT of commentaries and this is the only one that I would recommend to the general reader. Here is why: he makes you see so plainly what you almost certainly did not notice before by using simple techniques of literary criticsm to make the text plain. No matter what it takes, hunt this one down.

I first caught sight of this book at my local library. Yes, I did borrow the book & took it home to read. The reason being, I was looking for some book to give my nephew, who is a hard-core Playstation gamer. I needed something to get him away from it, at least for a few weeks. I quite "enjoyed" the book, and decided that this was what the doctor ordered. Soon I did what was necessary, I ordered a copy of the book for my nephew, as his birthday present. I'm sure he expected me to get him a PS game. He was disheartend to see it was a book. However, after reading the book, he's become a "CRYPTO-MANIAC". He is so much in to encryption now, that whenever he goes to a book shop he looks for similar books. He's already told me about a few crypto-related books that he wants for Christmas. His mother is cursing me now for getting him the book, since he is to busy "decrypting messages" instead of doing his chores. Overall, a great book, excellent as a foundation and a really good "engrossing" read! Oh by the way, he's "earned" a lot of respect in his class, since he's the only who knows of all the "basic" ways to encode messages. Which is very important to the class, since they have all these clubs, and messages are sent in plain handwriting, and are complete gibberish to outsiders. A MUST BUY FOR KIDS!

My daughter, age 8, loves this book! Even after solving the puzzles (which are solved page by page to get through the story), she still goes back to it, to look at them again. I highly recommend this series.

An excellent read - I've used this book again and again, along with its companion piece, "More Best, Worst, and Most Unusual". (If you buy the more recently published "Best, Worst and Most Unusual," you'll find that it contains both volumes in one book.) You can read about Florence Foster Jenkins, the worst soprano in the world; see pictures of the world's worst monuments; or find out what item of Napoleon's which was put up for auction and deemed MOST Unusual. At times unbelievable and hysterical (according to the authors, their own book is the worst book ever written!) this book is a must have. I would recommend buying both this volume and its companion work - you'll use it again and again.

This book is a companion volume to "Felton and Fowler's Best, Worst, and Most Unusual" and can be obtained by buying the combined volume simply titled "The Best, Worst, and Most Unusual". This volume, however, gives more of the unusual than of the best and worst - it's probably a more entertaining work than the first volume. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This is a great book! Anyone who likes logic puzzles would love this book. The puzzles are not just printed they are presented in colorful illustrations. The book has several plots that all come togeter at the end. I love this book and I think anyone who likes logic problems would too.

Pretty much contains a lot of recycled material in simplistic form from other, more detailed, sources. Not enough meat to feed a Merlin (small raptor).

("There is no language- or platform-specific information here") says the editorial review. i.e. this book is not a syntax guide.

But nonetheless this book is solely about designing Windows-9x GUIs.

Without having read the others, only Susan Weinschenk looks like being an intelligent platform-neutral book on this topic.
